heh, at any rate
back on topic ( )!

so for , ideas for sub-teams are:
1. AMD
2. Intel
3. nVidia
4. ATi
5. Age Groups (maybe college and high-school kids as one, and "adults" as the other?)
6. Anime :D

any more? is there a sub-team you want to join that's not on the list? then put it there!

Here are my thoughts...take them or throw them away. This is your bag.

I would like to see this happen, however I want to keep the teams to be all [H]orde related. That way there is no room for hard feelings of any kind.

Here is what I am thinking for team names:

[H]ard|Duelists
elep[H]ants
[H]ardcorps
[H]erd
Atomicmoose's Bitc[H]es (my fav :D)
[H]ordecorps

or more along these lines.

Now for the rules...teams will only be for a specific amount of time or for one race. Then for the next race, teams are shuffled. That way, no damaging team spirit can arise. This is a good thing. Competition but within guidelines.

In any case, I wouldn't wanna see this happen until after the UD/F@H contests that are running right now. Too many things to focus on can be a problem and then everything will just lose steam.

Thoughts?

Let me be the first to kiss the mod's rear end and say that I like the idea. Esp. the reshuffling of the teams, and having it scattered as to keep things from getting overwhelming and at the same time stale.

And since I feel like posting something baseless and stupid for once, my team suggestion:

p[H]ant0mfreaks 4 life!

Kidding!

I forgot to mention....no changing of user names will take place. Just keep stats tracking as is....since teams will be shuffled anyway, this seems to be the best course.

1. Team shuffling = good because animosity = bad.
2. I agree, this should happen after the current contests; I don't have time to coordinate this anyway, because day after tomorrow i'm out of town until school starts (lots of camps, sometimes computer access, sometimes not)
3. About the teams being [H]orde related -- okay, that's fine. But i don't feel any particular calling to be any of the teams you listed -- i don't see how that unifies people along a common strand (except perhaps the bitches one ;) , p[H]ant0m would do well there :p). I mean, the point of a sub-team is to get people excited and to keep them here, right? Well, if there's no diff. b/w being part of "the big team" (read: the [H]orde) and a sub-team (read the [H]erd) then wtf?

A possible solution i see for this is the developpment (sp?) of team mascots (like Domo-kun) for teams--maybe i'd be more willing to join the [H]erd if that ASCII moose was our mascot.

Would everyone randomly be put into a team? would this be for everyone in team 33 or just people who opt to join teams?

If that is not strictly for people who want to belong to teams, then it could be very dull, as perhaps over 80% of the people would not be active in the teams (rought estimate).

Also........ randomly shuffled? I think just haveing a few major teams would be much better then a lot of little randomly distributed teams.

I don't know, I still don't see it helping keep people folding for team 33.... With the way atomic moose has it (if i understand correctly), only the people who ever knew they were in a Sub-team would be people who already plan to stick with team 33.....

Edit: With what carnival said, having a subteam mascot, that's kinda of cool. I really like this idea.

I need no bitches, I have my own clan of cronies...

Now where did I put my slapjack.....

Ok, to clear up some of the misconceptions as I have read it:

1. This will be opt in. There won't be any teams of folk just picked off the streets.

2. The reason for the team switching is to keep things fresh. I don't think anyone would want to see 1 team consistently domniate, also it opens the social lines between forumers that may otherwise not socialize consistently.

3. It's a good way to bring others in, if you can't fill out your team, recruit, get friends, family, etc folding. Like I said, this is opt in, so unless you want it, and want it to work for you, then you can get it done.

i think what Moose means when he says shuffled, is that people like FLECOM and Logikality should never be on the same team. They'd pwn everyone.

on a side note, that brings up an interesting idea: Top 10 producers (note, top producers NOT top ranked) vs. However-many-others. ?--that'd be a GREAT way to ramp up production!

EDITED for clarity.

Gosh.. why couldnt I have thought up such a good idea

Ok Here is K* to lay down the smackdown.

And do a reachthrough on moose... when he mentioned he would post here.. I didnt know he was rippin my ideas ;)

ok. so... you all have seen how the current contests are run... at the start of the race you have a certain point total... every point you gain after that is then *race* points.

so say for a team of 4

player_a 10,000
player_b 9,000
player_c 8,000
player_d 5,000

all those would be points they score during the "race" each under Their own personal folding name.

from there you combind the total of all their individual race points.. to a TEAM total score.

the best team wins...

same general outline start with x amount of computers total for the team, only x amount of heavy hitters, middle weight hitters, and n00bs...

The reason we brought up the [H] team names, is to say that we are still part of ONE team... but for the duration of the race there is one smaller subteam.

As phantom mentioned.. the teams are temp only b/c you get to meet new people, and in future races would need to find a new team... promoting inter-team and interpersonal new relationships and challenges while supporting our ONE team.

The reason why they are not perm. teams... is for the reasons listed above.. for 6 weeks (or however long the contest would run) you would get a chance to meet new people that you dont normally interact with... think of it as an ice breaker... and they would be split up at the end, as to remind everyone that we are one team and not have lots of little teams doing dirty infighting etc (i doubt it would happen here  )

rofl.

to be fair, this is how i came about this: it was OC.com's idea, and i stole it (kind of like stealing MVN from the Aussies).

Balls = (implied?)

Can we get back on topic please?
sure

so regarding the subteams, Moose, do you feel comfortable letting them be Hobbies (maybe we can incorporate an [H] in there somehwere to make it more related to the [H]orde) rather than generic "elep[H]ant" etc.?

it kinda got lost in the general OTness

each team would have a mascot (you can image search google or make your own or whatever) and a team leader (to organize b0rg drives, OC drives, etc. etc.)

does anyone else have any other suggestions as per "hobbies" or "identifying groups" we could have to make interesting sub-teams? (remember politics is *not* an option)

Well the general team name would be decided by the group/team members, and approved by the contest organizers and the mods of the forum...

I don't think you're doing so well here....
out of 8000 team members 49 have voted.... not counting active vs inactive though. ;)

50.

assuming only the "Yes's" participate, that's enough for ~4 subteams.
we'll be fine.

;

GAD you guys go off on tangents!!
Some of these threads start off as decent ideas and then just become a quick waste of CPU cycles.
First of all - SubTeams - been there done that - we had the Canadians vs the Brits, worked well.
Why SubTeams ?
'Cuz we want to FOLD!!! and want to get others ADDICTED!!
While still folding for Kyle/[H].
Who makes the rules?
Let anybody take the time and effort to form a gang name the gang, recruit members, find an opposing gang, and then let the gangs settle on the rules.
The purpose is to fold for SCIENCE honestly (no borging Air Force One's boxen without permission) and fairly.
Look at Ars (no NOT Arse) they had/have a bunch of teams/gangs that move around.
Try and get some Hooters involved. relic REALLY got this team moving when he'd hold a meet at a Hooters, then provide pictures. The spin off of a dozen peeps having lunch, swapping tales and parts, affected HUNDREDS of us.
Face it - a lot of us are nerds that don't like to meet people, but like to be on the periphery.
So form the gangs and have a rumble!
Now who wants to form a gang/sub-team in the Washington DC area with the side purpose of making home brew(ed computers) and barbecue?

Mmmm BBQ. Anyone interested in planning a [H] bbq? I can't plan it due to busyness, but I could certainly attend.

I'd organize the Detroit Barbeque....
Drag out the camper... couple of cases.... dogs, burgers and ribs galore....
Setup at one of the metro parks and party in the name of [H]ardfolding!
With a name like BakedON... i know how to party. :p

Now this is a very good idea! Meeting some of the fellow folders or brothers in arms!
We can look into gathering the folders from our respective states and maybe one day put together a larger scale type of meeting (FoldingFreak Fest). :D

The nearest Hooters for me is about 99 miles away. We have a "Ballz" sports bar and grill. Their slogan is "Who needs hOOters when you have ballz". Kinda stupid but not a bad place. Again NO HOOTERS. And I dot think they go there to see Ballz. I am pretty sure is a play on words for sports.
