Hello all,

I finally decided to build a new PC after 5 years of using a P4 system. I'm slowly catching up on all the new tech and products and this is what I have so far. Basically I just want to make sure I'm not gimping myself or buying overkill in one area. This PC will be mainly used for gaming on an existing 24" 1920x1200 monitor.

Motherboard - Gigabyte P55A-UD4P

CPU - Core i7 860

The only thing I'm not sure about yet is what case and CPU cooler to get. I'm not that interested in overclocking, but if it's easy to do I wouldn't mind playing around with it.

Also, I'm not particularly attached to the various brands I linked above. These were just the easiest/first ones I could find on Amazon. For example, I'm not sure if the Corsair memory kit is the best or cheapest option out there right now.

Lastly, would that power supply be enough to handle a second video card in the future if I wanted to do Crossfire? I'm not planning on it but you never know.

Hey, that CPU won't fit into that motherboard. Different sockets. You either need a LGA1366 CPU or a LGA1156 motherboard.

Thanks for the heads-up, I didn't even realize that Intel has different sockets for the Core processors. I just assumed they were the same, silly me :).

LGA1366 has three memory channels and LGA1156 has two. So you should only get a three-stick memory kit if you're getting LGA1366. Otherwise get a two-stick kit. If you need help deciding which route to go, you can google "920 vs 860" or something similar and find plenty of discussions about the two platforms' pros and cons. Or maybe someone less lazy and more knowledgeable than me will type them all out for you :p

Thanks so much for the clarification. I edited the original post and changed my selection to a P55 motherboard and a 4 GB memory kit to match the CPU. Of course, I'm open to any recommendations for different brands and/or models.

Also, anyone have a suggestion for a nice mid-tower case and CPU cooler? I'm not really into overclocking and prefer something that is quiet and non-flashy.
