Apple should just patent the word "Apple" just so they could sue everyone that has the word "Apple" on their bag of apples and advertisements...it seems fitting to what Apple is trying to make themselves out to be.
We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We've decided to do something about it," Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, said Tuesday in a statement. "We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.
One thing everyone here needs to realize, the titles of those patents don't determine the bounds of what is covered.
What is in the claims is undoubtedly far more specific and complex than the titles seem.

Engadget already tore the patents apart. Basically, most of them are exactly what they sound. Ex: Patent #7,657,849: Unlocking a device by performing gestures on a screen.![]()
apple doesn't make multi-touch screens. someone should sue apple![]()

On page 27 begins the claims section
It starts with "what is claimed is" this is where the description of exactly what claims Apple has a monopoly on. This is how the patent system works.
If something shows the requisite utility, novelty, and non-obviousness, a patent is granted. Alleged infringers will pretty much always bring a claim of invalidity, and then the court reviews the patent.
Under the law Apple has the exclusive right to produce any product fitting the description within any of the 23 claims in that patent.
That's fucked up. That patent is a month old now. I find it ironic that Apple waits a month after it is assigned to start lawsuits against other companies. It seems that Apple got that patent just to file lawsuits. Fuck Apple.
Apple is a wealthy but relatively small for profit company (ab)using the law to protect its property. Google is a creepy mega-giant that aggregates and meta-connects the personal information of everybody who uses its products. In what way is Apple's aggresive litigiousness related to what Google does?
if you look at the first page, the patent was filed in 2005, it took 3 years to be issued. A lot of times it can take even longer.
Yeah lets see - Android does the unlock one.. guess they don't want to fuck with google laywers?
Rotation of touch screen display was on tablets prior to iPhone - so dell should sue them.
Battery usage meter in a camera? Nikon and Canon can now sue them.
Automated response to sensing user activity in devices - Pretty sure this opens them up to counter suit from many companies.
XX Processor for improved comms capacity and quality? .. Right.. makes little sense to restrict advanced hardware types due to someones bs "patent"
Reducing voltage to a processor? Guess they'll have fun opening themselves to lawsuit from Intel and possibly AMD.
OO graphics UI? LOL laughable.
The last one is purely bullshit they stole this from fucking blackberry.
Seriously. Apple needs to get a good swift mega counter suit filed against them.
If there weren't so many interdependencies between large companies I could see a few of them getting together to gangbang apple in court.
I hope HTC win this, then have a nice word with their os makers, google and microsoft.. who then both go after apple for a load of things that they have copied over the years, As Microsoft have more money then apple, they could, if they wished then have a go at bankrupting them...
If that happened I would be committed as I would never stop laughing.
Fuck Apple.
Apple doesn't make hardware. Well, they don't make screens at least. HTC and Apple would buy their screens from Samsung or something. You need the right hardware to make multitouch work. You can't just write a software and magically make a screen multitouch capable.
Meh, apple. Oh well, I guess HTC shouldn't of violated the patents.

Apple is about as much of a hardware company as Dell is. Whatever Apple is after, it's gotta be software related.

Everytime I hear anything about Apple I always remember this mac parody created a few years back.
Just laugh out loud.

Just you wait till they get a patent for breathing air. Then you come back and talking about not violating the patent.

So when is Palm getting sued?
My Palm Pre violates almost all of these "patents"
Blame patent law and not Apple. They're well within their rights to protect their patents. If you want to bitch about patent laws, go talk to your congressman.
