Perfect Dark

A remake? Or new adventure? Kinda tired of remakes. Would be nice to see them port the Rare Collection to PC.

What year did the original come out?
2000 the only thing I remember is the red hair character.

2000, then a remake in 2010 on xbox, now this. which kinda seems like a sequel. theres a line about "if she found what shes been looking for"

Perfect dark was literally Goldeneye only better.
I agree game play, functionality, weaponry and technically but overall Goldeneye's story was more fun :) Makes me want to pull out my N64 and play them both again. Loved using the Laptop gun as a turret against AI in the other play modes lol.

There was also a sequel on Xbox 360, as a launch title.
It was actually pretty good. I got it launch day with 5 other games and it was this one and Condemned I ended up playing most. I think it got overshadowed by COD2 and Quake 4 as "that other shooter". It was stupid and light-hearted, and the mechanics were quirky, but I enjoyed it.

It wasn't Goldeneye because Goldeneye is a James Bond Game. Perfect Dark literally isn't a James Bond ip.
It started as a James Bond game, and when rare lost the license the pivoted the design to a near-future spy game.

Mechanically, it's Goldeneye only better in every way.

They'll manage to fuck it.up.
I want to believe, considering The Initiative is made up of all kinds of people with strong credentials across the industry. In this day and age, though, it is better to set your expectations low so as to experience indifference instead of disappointment when you see the final product. Such is the overall state of the gaming industry at present.

I hear there's good stuff coming out of eastern Europe lately. Some small dev has been making RPGs that are getting better and better. They're supposed to be coming out with a new future oriented RPG shooter that looks amazing too!

And the wonderful Laptop Gun. Loved the hell out of that thing.
Perfect Dark on N64 was such an amazing game. The guns, the cheezy lines from the baddies, the fucking amazing soundtrack!

I don't have high hopes for this. Pretty much everything Microsoft makes nowadays converges on 'alright', never 'great' or 'fantastic'.
Just look what they did with Halo once Bungie left...

Or Banjo Kazooie

Or Forza Motorsport

Or gears of war

Everything after Halo 1 was varying levels of crap.

Forza is still "fantastic".

Gears of War has always been better than Halo and is, at the very least, "great".

Forza started out amazing, but it's gone verry casual with Forza Horizon becoming more of the company's focus.

Gears of war 1-3 are quite amazing, and I wasted tons of grubs in GOW multiplayer on x360, but it's verry uninspired now.

Halo 2-reach are awesome, but to each their own.

There has not been an increased focus on Horizon. Forza Motorsport has been overhauled for the next release, which is why the typical 2-year release cadence has been interrupted. Forza Horizon is still basically the same game as Forza Horizon 2 and not much has changed since then. Horizon is still developed separately by Playground Games while Motorsport is fully within Turn 10's purview.

Kinda looks like Sweet Baby Inc. got a hold of our girl..

Dat jaw line.. lol. Not too surprising though given how regressive Crystal Dynamics has shown to be.

Now that I've cast that stone to derail this thread, the gameplay looks interesting enough; some Dying Light/Mirrors Edge parkour with some nice, although seeming scripted, combat sequences. I'm really pulling for this though, as a big fan of the original and I'm actually playing through it right now on Xbox with my son on co-op trying to do the whole game on Perfect Agent difficulty and damn is that game harder than I remember. I don't expect it, but it would be amazing if they keep local co-op and multiplayer in this game somehow too.

That second picture in your post is just a bad angle, in my opinion. The head-on shot of her face in this game looks like a properly aged version of Joanna from the original N64 game even with the primitive graphics. Lets forget about the prequel since that game had a manga aesthetic.

Admittedly, I would have liked it if they had gotten closer to Winona Ryder's face, who the original character was modeled after, but that would require licensing her likeness.

It does look like they purposely made her unattractive. She doesn't look like what I imagined her to look like in high detail, that's for sure.

Anyways when I heard the music in the trailer it I did get hyped, I hope the game is good.

Joana Dark, for me, was never a sex symbol. She always seemed more like a female James Bond in the actual game. The marketing and production art did it's best to sex her up, but in the game she honestly seemed like a butch bisexual tomboy.

Going the Immersive Sim / parkour route is REALLY interesting and would definitely differentiate it from the masses of mindless shooters out there, but I'm honestly not keeping my hopes up. Like I said three years ago when this game was announced, Microsoft has no idea how to cultivate genuine greatness. They purchase greatness, then slowly water it down to 'alrightness'.

Yeah ... seriously ... wtf?

Microsoft is showing themselves to be outright incompetent w regards to gaming

I'm not about to defend the Xbox division, but that's an odd statement to make in a topic about a game that at least looks like it has potential to be good. Or, at the very least, is something worth keeping an eye on for now.

agreed. From what they showed, it looks to be at least a half-decent game. Though I trust that if it isn't an immediate success Microsoft will kill the studio they created to make it.

Not odd at all considering their string of high profile missteps and failures.

Yes this game looks good. And hopefully it will be.
