i'm planning on building a semi budget/semi gaming computer when i get my tax return. the board i'm currently looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128358 which is a gigabyte GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 mobo. the only thing that scares me is the fact that it has 2x pci express 2.0 one at 16x and one at 8x. i'm only putting one vid card in it at first but i want to drop in another later. will the fact that one of the PCIE slots is only 8x hurt me and should i look at another board for that reason?
 
No card today fully utilizes 8 lanes. x8 and x16 offer the same performance.

x4 is what you should worry about
 
Just make sure you're going ATI because those boards don't support SLI.
 
I'd look at the 750i based boards. They seem to be a little better than the 780i with overclocking, yet some of them still run full x16/x16 SLI.
 
well, i'm glad you suggested what i was looking at, the other board i was looking at was the EVGA 750i board. it got really good reviews from hardocp and has 2x 16x pcie so i don't have to worry about my original question anymore. it's a bit more than the gigabyte, but only by like 20 bucks. thx for the info and the quick responses!
 
780i is actually better. Some of the 750i's have problems with vdrop from what I have heard.

You can use SLI on an intel chipset now anyways through driver updates.
