Which will give me the better overclock w/ a c2d or quad and be 24.7 stable ?
 
Anyone else have thoughts on this? I'm deciding between the same two mobos myself. Thinking of getting a Q6600 with G0 stepping. I already have 2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 RAM, and plan to get a thermalright SI-128SE HS.
 
P5K-E, nuff said :)

It's very stable and with the voltage dampener included, there is almost no vdroop compared to the IP35. I had one since september and it's trouble-free. 10$ cheaper will seal the deal for you. Just look at my sig for the current setup (soon to be watercooled for higher overclocking).

 
Excellent, thank you for your thoughts. I currently have an Asus P5B Deluxe and have been very happy with it. I'm building a new system to play around with and was really hoping the P5K-E would be a winner. Just wanted some opinions from current users. Sorry OP if I stepped on your thread... :D
 
I don't think that there will be much between them & it'll come down to minor design details like whether you prefer your SATA slots turned sideways or not, a black or blue PCB etc. & any existing preference for manufacturer .

The P5K-E has only 1 Gb LAN v 2 on the Pro but has integrated Wifi (abit do a x1 PCI-W WiFi card that can get as low as free after rebate).
The Pro has uGuru which is the best manufacturer supplied hardware monitor/fan control going & of course little touches like the external clearCMOS switch & the onboard power & reset buttons & the POST code LED.
 
I'm still having a hard time deciding between the two. As happy as I am with my current Asus board and the fact I really like the black color scheme over that ugly blue has me leaning toward the P5K-E wifi. Of course, the lower price helps as well. I like the external clear CMOS the IP35 Pro has, but with my current Asus, simply shutting the computer off and restarting clears the CMOS after a failed OC, so I'm assuming the P5K-E would be the same, so the external clear CMOS really doesn't offer any better functionality. At least I don't think so. I'm wanting to buy an 8800GT to go with this system, which is the only thing I'm waiting for. I'd hate to buy the board and CPU, then wait a month on the card coming down to $250 and finding the mobo and CPU have gone down in price as well. UGH! :p
 
if you gi with the p5k dont flash the bios with their windows update utility. i got my board and tried to flash the bios with that tool and it took down my system. now im playing the waiting game with their rma dept. cant wait to get my referb board to replace my one week old board!!! thanks asus

btw they took the tool down from their site.

Actually, that's not really a concern for me as I've known about it for a while (same with my current mobo). Kinda sad to see they haven't fixed that yet though.

now im stuck running the old x2 4400. what a down grade from a q6600.
 
Sorry to hear that dude. I understand, my backup (old) system was an X2 4400+ as well and I wouldn't want to use that over my current rig... ;)

totally depends on what gpu you plan on adding..
 
dude, just get the P5K-E. I ahve one, its made easy to Overclock. everything works perfectly in it, and when you have an OC problem, just unplug the PSU foir about 3-5 mins and then turn on again, it resets your OC.
 
That's the plan. Just waiting for the 8800GT to drop in price. Want to buy the Q6600, mobo and video card at the same time, but I don't want to pay more then $250 on the video card. Since this isn't for my main system (at least not yet), I can wait for the price to drop a little... ;)
 
I have the P5K-E wifi. Much better and more stable than the Gigabyte p965 DS3 which I replace. No more cold boots after failed overclocking. Overclocking is easier and more options. And more available options to flash bios from. Only problem is cant seem to performed a fresh install of XP Pro on a new Hard Drive but Vista have no problem performing :( a fresh install.

What kind of error do you get when trying to install winXP ?
 
Liking my Abit IP35 Pro alot. Got it for quite cheap when Newegg had their Paypal promotion awhile ago. It is a solid board and Iv had no issues with it so far. I got it as a transition board until I get a Asus X38 board (big Asus fan, I have the Asus P5W, P5B Premium and a bunch others). However I stuck with the Abit since X38 isnt that much better and the board is just great.

Does the P5K-E offer just about the same overclocking ability as the P5K Deluxe? I'm looking to get around 450 FSB stable with the E8400 when it comes out.

I am running 450 FSB with the E version, so its more about the CPU being nice then the version of the mobo.
 
I dont know how well the built in wireless works, but I have and the abit and the encore wireless N/G router. Let me tell you it's not very good for games, and the router is just upstairs.
 
Can you just disable the WiFi in the P5K-E?

I have a nice Hawking USB2 adapter (gets signal literally through 3 floors) I'd rather use.
 
I have a Abit IP35 pro, I have yet to set it up but I really dont trust Asus products but thats like me and Samsung just bad history. There hasn't been many complaints from Abit users on this board

yes you can, just go into the BIOS of it and theres an option to disable any of the intergrated stuff.
 
So far I've had good experience with the ip35 pro. Since the pic, I've replaced the IDE burner for a SATA which is in sig.

 
I LOVE my IP35 Pro. I got it as soon as it launched & it did crap out on me once. Would not post & got a C1 error. A simple reset of the CMO's on the back of the board & I was able to get into the bios. Adjusted the mem voltages & all was well once again. I do not have one crash other than that one problem. Best board I have ever used. It gets a very high recommendation from me.

I've been reading alot about the Abit IP35 Pro, and I've found alot of rave reviews, and very few flaws...
But the two big flaws I've found are:
  1. vdrop - What is this anyways, how important is this flaw?
  2. NB,SB,PWM Heatsink issues

So my question is are big of a deal are these issues? should I be concerned?
I noticed there is a fix to the Heatsink here...
But I don't like the fact that I have to remove and reapply the heatsink :(
