orange box $20 ~

I believe what Zest is doing is selling Asia/Pacific Editions and/or International Versions. Valve(EA) probably subsidized a lower cost due to currency differences.

When Newegg.com had a low price for Condition Zero. I recieved an Asia Pacific edition, but on the box it was sharpied out. But manuals and cds stated Asia Pacfic edition. It worked on steam fine. The key just gives you access to the steam network.

I bet they are requiring Drivers Licenses because of fraud. I doubt they have much leverage for chargebacks compared to the US.

I've ordered from Zest several times before without incident and have recommended the site to friends who have also not had problems. Thanks for the info, OP.

I have cc problems, can someone order for me, I'll paypal you the money and a dollar for the effort and paypal fees if any.
Thanks

I ordered without scanning anything with my verified by visa credit card. Called chase for the authorization number and it was as easy as that.

Received email that I could retrieve code within a day and successfully activated orange box to my steam account for $16.87.

Zest is a very legit store they have 4 retail locations that are pretty much like Gamestop/EBGames in the U.S.

Whats wrong your CC company inst on the list? If so there is a party to add your comapny.

from them in the past and all went well, I got HL2 and couple other games from them, I dont know about any of you guy's CC's but mine has buyer protection, so at time I had no worry, and afterwards I was damn happy they are a real legit site, and Im a repeat customer.

next time you know that someone's driving a car on a fake license with your ID printed on it and his fake picture along with it!!

ya tell me about it... is it really worth it for $20 savings?? i got mine from CC for like $41 shipped.

I ordered mine on Wednesday. Received the confirmation, but have not received anything from them since then. I have emailed their support twice to see if they could explain why it is taking so long. some people have received their cd-keys in less than 24 hours. I'll let everyone know when I receive it.

People were getting errors activating the code; saying the code was for Russia only. They pulled the orange box from the site and no longer sell it.

Looks like the site has pulled the game completely. Probably valve getting tons of people activating this game.. from Thai cd-keys.

Yep, just got the "This key only valid in Russia and surrounding territories" error. Oh well, I'll see if Zest will refund me. I have no doubt they will, they seem like a pretty good company, and it really sucks that they have to be the ones to deal with Valve's shittyness.

This is really, really, shady of Valve. I don't see anywhere in the EULA where I'm prohibited from buying a game in a different country. They're even locking out people who already activated with a key from Zest, and played for days. Very bad decision, as we all know how much bad online press this will be getting next week.

Hell, what going to happen to me when I move to Australia in 2 months? Sign on to Steam and find out every game I own on Steam is now invalid because I'm not in the country where I bought the games?

not to hijack but from real experience the last time I spent 600 baht was in 1992 when I was in phuckett and spent 1000 baht on a hotel 3 days, all of my food, beverages and a nice girl from a thai kick boxing blub called "Marilyns, a Go Go. Send photo ID. Hell send them your SSN and checking account number while your at it. Good luck guys. Your looking to play games and they are playing games with your identity.

I found the orange box on my favorite site for buying games:

598 baht = 19.0052 USD

Yes this site is legit because I've ordered Call of Duty 2 from them before as well as Quake 4. I have had zero issues with them. Hopefully this isn't a repost. Btw with this site you can opt for the game with the CD's/DVD's or you can get only the cd-key and activate it yourself. With a cdkey only order the cdkey is emailed to you within a day or so. And yes I've used this option before and have gotten a completely legit cd-key that was never in use when I went to play online. This is an actual retail store in Thailand so hopefully that will ease your nerves.

-----------

after reading through 7 pages of that thread, people were reporting that they recieved their cd keys promptly in an email so it looks pretty legit. Read that thread for more info, but this seems like a real good deal if you're real pinchy to get the fry's deal

I got 3 keys for me and friends and Im getting the same error now. Really gay that Valve is doing this. Not like they are losing money on the keys. What really sucks is that in the end it is Zest I think that will get shafted and I have no complaints about their service. Anyway Im pretty pissed at Valve.

Crap, I'm moving to Australia too (next month)!

Whereabouts are you relocating? I'm heading down to Sydney.

next time you know that someone's driving a car on a fake license with your ID printed on it and his fake picture along with it!!

Maybe in Thailand. I've ordered various things from Zest for over two years and have had zero problems or "suspicious" activity. I have a few friends who also have no problems. When I used to work for an online retail company, we required international buyers to fax their ID and an image of the credit card they wanted to use. We did it to protect ourselves, I'm sure Zest is doing it for the same reasons.

Discussion is moot as it applies to the Orange Box anyway apparently.

god damn valve, I'm actually AM russian and living in the states since 92' and I got this version and everything was fine, then BAM Valve shuts off my version?

I'm not going to pretend I was anticipating a russian version to begin with when I ordered, but it was kind of funny when I got it and I was pretty enthused... and now this. I was anticipating simply a non-country-specific International version like I got of Quake4 from them.

I'm going to call them and argue I bought the Russian version because I *am* russian, see if that gets me anywhere.

Its been 6 days, how long did it take you guys?

I just got a email saying they value no longer accepts Asian cd keys. I think im going to get a refund. (from Zest)

Edit:

They just said they are refunding me. Sweet!

PHEW! I came here to order 4 copies for me and family, glad I decided to read through the whole thread b4 buying!

"there are quite a few customers are finding their "Orange Box" games have been deactivated by Valve because they bought them from a seller that wasn't authorized to do business with US customers.

The seller made the mistake, but the gamers are paying the price.

Todd says:

This complaint is about Valve, a PC video game company which makes games like Half-Life 2.

This effects many thousands of customers.

They recently released a product called the "Orange Box", which is a bunch of games.
All their products are activated online via unique serial numbers through the Steam service.

Many of us bought the product (and hence, the serial numbers) legitimately online via well known international game stores, as they sell them significantly cheaper than American stores.

We were able to activate the products without a problem.
One week later, Valve, via the Steam program, inactivated all Orange Box games (after they had already been active for some time), stating that they are in the "incorrect territory."
There was no warning or anything, just completely inactivated.

The thread that was started on www.valve.com has been removed by the operators there."

The overseas companies who sold the Orange Box to Americans weren't authorized to do so and should be issuing refunds since they failed to follow their distribution agreements. If it were me in this situation, I would contact the vendor I purchased the game from and demand a refund. I don't really think it's fair to blame Valve for it.

Did the vendors create the regional setup or did valve?

I blame the person or persons responsible for the regional pricing scheme.

Ramrod
/at least the pr0n companies were smart enough to make their DVDs region free

Computer games are region free and have been.

I really hope more companies don't start enforcing this region shit like this.

I import a lot of games from the UK because the US versions are censored or come out at a later date and if that happens it will piss me off.

i think the regional pricing schemes were desgined to help quell software piracy in markets where it runs rampant (i.e. southeastern asia, russia, etc) and the purpose is to ensure that lower prices are sort of a deterrent to downloading the game(s). i believe that the majority of the time, the prices of games are determined by the publisher (EA in this case), not the developers.

Then I blame EA and those who chose to let EA have this power. Prices should be even everywhere. Nobody should be punished with higher prices for not pirating software.

There is no trick or punishment going on with these pricing. They way these regional copies of game works are the same way how textbooks work. The work is developed and produced then sold to people here in the US, Europe and other places for prices they know they can sell at. But since poorer countries cannot afford as much of these goods like us, the companies does not make a lot of money there or create a base. So they come up with these international or regional editions that are sold cheaper to these other countries so that they can make a bigger profit and distribute there games more to a wider audience. Its not like printing up another cd is going to cost them a whole lot, so might as well lower the price and sell more copies. The only reason why they charge us so much is because we can afford it. (thought it might seem some of us cant). Almost 100% of these regional editions specifically say they are only meant for those areas, AND not meant to be sold to other places like North America. So in this case it is the seller at fault here for breaking the companies rules of keeping the editions local. They aren't "rewarding" countries that pirate with lower prices.

I think its more "We are dumb enough to pay it" not "we can afford it". But debating the spending habits of the average American, trade balances and so on, is outside of the scope here and I will concede to you that the greatest fault falls upon the final seller who did not notify the purchaser "this will not work in your country".

in economics this is called price discrimination and is used in a lot of places

Then I blame EA and those who chose to let EA have this power. Prices should be even everywhere. Nobody should be punished with higher prices for not pirating software.

The problem is that in some places the economies and money is quite different in terms of the avg wage, etc.

IF you made all games 40-50usd then other countries wouldn't be able to afford a lot of them and thus even more would turn to piracy.

I've had to send a copy of my Driver's License to a US online store before. OnSale.com i think. Its stupid to think they are going to scam you just because they want a copy of it. Just black out the Drivers license #.

Some of you people are friggin retarded...

50-60$USD to a person in Thailand is the same as an American going out and buying a game for ~200$ USD, A person in Thailand who makes ~40K USD a year would be concidered VERY wealthy.
