A 16 year old kid was arrested in connection with the DDoS attacks against organizations that opposed WikiLeaks. The alleged mastermind has been detained and will miss recess, lunch and most of third period math.

The operation started initially as ‘payback’ against outfits that tried to stop the BitTorrent site The Pirate Bay, and DDoS attacks were organized to strike back. A few days ago, the operation changed course and instead began to go after organizations that displayed opposition towards Wikileaks.

I have not read the article, but I am glad that kids are still fighting the system..

It is one of the funnest things to do as a kid.

I also got caught as a kid while messing with The Man. Fun times.
 
People are so stupid getting involved with this Wikileaks deal. The hacker community has been infiltrated by the FBI. This kid has been made a scapegoat so that it looks like the government is doing something. Seriously, they had nothing to gain by flipping this little kid so made an example of him. It is the stuff you don't hear about that is important. Bigger fish are being flipped and becoming FBI informants. You are going to get burned if you mess with it.
 
so you guys finally started a thread about this situation, days after it started and was being reported everywhere else.......only after someone is arrested.....hrmmmm...bias maybe?

you see, i reported this story a couple days ago, once by pm to one of the people capable of starting a new thread in the news section, and again using the report news email found on the contacts page here at hard ocp.....yet it isn't a story until someone gets arrested? coincidence?

hardly.....you couldn't go to any major news website without seeing this all over the web for days now. i think someone in charge had a personal problem with the group doing this and only thought it worth reporting when they were "brought to justice"

either you report news about technology and the internet or you dont, please dont contribute to the censorship by ignoring the facts

The fags weren't good, they got Paypal, Visa, and Mastercard but then they failed when the tried to hack amazon.

They chose not to attack amazon.

Remember, when the governments of the world release news to their bought and paid for media then you know it's definately false info.

You can easily visit a certain forum where these attacks are co-ordinated from and view users openly discussing these attacks.

At least he's trying to make a stand for something. the rest of the world seems to be sitting there with nothing but whining and inaction. so what if he was dumb enough to get caught. he's a kid, he'll get a smack bum and put to bed and it'll be over. meanwhile his cause and modern form of protest gets media exposure. ddos is fast becoming the only useful form of non-violent protest these days. its done by individuals these days as botnets are quite hard to come by these days. that's quite analogous to picketing an organisation but on a wider scale. i don't really see why ddos is illegal if you're not hacking zombies, really what's the difference between that and hitting refresh f5 repeatedly in your browser window.

Wikileaks is a very valuable political voice that seemingly a large group of americans (pretty much exclusively) don't seem to get. a war crime is a war crime and hiding behind some ridiculous notion of classified information should not shield you from being accountable for your actions, whether it be an individual or an entire nation. you wouldn't support members of the third reich averting war crime convictions shielded by classified information. the world demands to know the truth not these secret conspiracies. nobody has more of a right to this planet than anyone else, we all have the right to know what's really going on instead of having to fill in the gaps. the governments are withholding information the people of the world need to make informed choices on our political stance. the USA government says we need to be at war with afghanistan but honestly how can anyone support OR OPPOSE it without really knowing what its about.

If its about needing to secure oil so the economy doesn't take a 3rd world nosedive then just be honest about it instead of reciting numbers 911 911 911. yeah well guess what more women and children have been killed on their side before that tragedy than the total on your side so by your definition they have the right to invade your country to defend their own. its obvious its all about money and its obvious the impact of losing the war will be far more damaging to the american people than the towers crashing down. everything that surrounds you wouldn't be there without oil. older empires had no problem conquering other nations to take their resources and unashamedly made that motivation clear. the economy is taking a nosedive and america and israel have made some powerful enemies.

I wouldn't say its israel's fault they're a nation full of fundamentalist nutjobs. there's no way they'd've survived on their own. i mean seriously forcing arabs from their land in a region totally dominated by arabs. you'd have better luck roamin through da hood chantin 'white power'

and no i certainly don't advocate invasion and occupation of america. that's ridiculous! i don't care what colour hat you wear... oppression is evil. its the very reason i'm mortified about israel, i mean shit didn't the same shit happen to them a little while back... and now they're the nazis.

i know i what i say sounds to you like i want to drag american women and children from their beds in the middle of the night and slit their throats but that's certainly not the case at all. i just say it as i see it. i'm certainly anti-government but i don't want anyone to suffer. i think overthrowing the current fascist lying corrupt governments throughout the world will bring us towards a happier life. a life where the people have a voice. not just the wealthy.

I'm glad these idiots are getting busted. This "hactivism" is nothing but a digital version of people rioting and committing acts of vandalism under the guise of a "protest". They're nothing but petty criminals. Personally I hope they level espionage charges at Assange, extradite him to the US, and try him as a terrorist. Then I hope they find all the leakers of the documents and shoot them for treason as well. They deserve no less.

Overthrowing fascist lying corrupt governments is a great concept, let's start with Saudi Arabia, Iran, N. Korea, Qatar, Yemen, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon, Somalia and the Philippines and work our way down the fascism and corruption ladders from there. Go protest on their websites.

Considering the US has already overthrown the political/military infrastructure of all those countries long ago makes that comment seem a little strange. Overthrowing the regimes the US has helped take over these countries for a second time seems a little wasteful to me. Perhaps the US government should leave well alone and pay more attention to it's own affairs. I'm not saying the american people, I mean the owners of America, the military industrial complex which dictates Americas policys both at home and abroad.
