Open boxes from NewEgg

Anyone have experience with open box motherboards from Newegg ? Can they be missing some accessories and/or DOA with bent pins ?

Im looking at this one

Call me a snob but when I purchase parts for a new build it better be brand spanking new with no other geeky sweaty fingerprints on it. That and I remember years ago purchasing a open box sound card that had PCB damage.

Seriously though, there are times you can find good deals on open box but I personally buy only TV's and other hardier electronics that are open box. Computer components are always brand new.

used open box from neweeg many times..some came with all acc, some only a few, some just mobo...all worked fine but 1 was doa ,but thats probubly out of 25 or so over the years...some times no backplate and have to contact manufacturer for one..usually about 5 bucks...all in all there usually fine and you have 14 days to ck it out....not happy with it they take them back and refund money....
Im not afraid of them if its a big savings.....

I've ordered 2 (I think) motherboards from them that way and they came without any accessories whatsoever. This was kind of a while back, though.

My current mobo was an open box from newegg, the seals hadn't even been broken, it was just a returned item. No problems so far!

its hit or miss, but that is reflected in the price. ive ordered a dozen items open box from newegg over a few years, only 1 was DOA, but got a full refund. a few others had accessories or parts missing. the majority have worked fine with the exception of some fingerprints or scratches.

I just bought an open box server board for like $200 (original $500)

Had all the accessories :) Works perfectly!

Just depends on who returned it I guess.

I have an open box mobo at home that i have been using for about 3 years. It did not come with a single thing. It didnt come with the case plate or anything.

I dont mind because it was a lot cheaper to just buy the back plate from asus but you really have no idea what you are getting with open box

I bought another open box from Amazon though and it was missing the I/O plate and the 2 brackets for the heatsink. It was $3 for the shield and like $25 for the brackets from the manufacturer (supermicro)

Open box items can be hit or miss, as many have said. As a computer system and hardware dealer, part of my business involves purchasing bulk open box items from a major distributor. (I like to think of myself as a small new egg).

In my experience, the majority of open box items are in perfect condition, and were just returned unused by customers. However, there are handful of items that would be more accurate described as used or refurbished. Or, one thing that I notice from time to time is a part with different accessories (ie: apple iPod w. generic ear buds).

This is only occasionally, however.

Personally, I as a retailer pick those items out of the stock and either send them back or desribe them in a different category. However, I am a small enough company to have the time to go through orders prior to shipping. But, as one poster stated, many prefer brand new stuff, and thus carry that as well

I've ordered two motherboards from Newegg that were open box. An Asus M4A79 Deluxe and a P6T6 WS. The amd one arrived in the full retail box with all the accessories and I never had a problem with it for the duration I owned it, however there were signs it had been used before (finger prints, etc).

The p6t6 arrived in a sealed white box with an Asus RMA sticker on it. It was completely clean and looked brand new, probably one of the best deals I've gotten from newegg.

I've ordered 4 open box mobo's from Newegg. All of them came without the accessories/IO shields.

Most people don't get any accessories and they already have a bunch of extra stuff laying around.

A few open boxes over the years, never received anything but the bare board. It can be a real pita without the I/O shield, but if the savings are worth the hassle then I don't really mind.

I may only buy open box if I can put my hands on it first to check it with these two eyes. But even then there are no guarantees the thing will work.

Too much of a risk and too much of a hastle if it is wrong when it shows up. Especially if you are working to a timeline.

I think I recall seeing that Tiger Direct indicates on their open box mobos whether or not they come with all the accessory items besides the board and the I/O plate.

How can there even be open boxes now, Newegg doesn't accept returns on motheboards, unless they are DOA.

I never minded open box boards, but missing the IO bracket is a PITA. That's the only reason I tend to avoid them. Tracking down the replacement IO board from the manufacturer isn't worth my headache.

One of my 4870s was an open box from Newegg. Came with everything like it was new, no problems with the card either.

I've purchased a couple open box items from newegg and never had a doa. Accessories is a hit or miss thing, and I always weigh that into my decision. i.e. a motherboard that comes brand new with a lot of trinkets and what not I would probably just buy new, unless it was a significant savings.

dont buy motherboards, and video cards, from open box. Ive received several that were dead, no post, missing surface mount components, or warped.

Open box is great for hard drives, processors, and power supplies

I saved around $100 when I got my P6T from open box newegg. mine came as a bare mobo. Had a friend order a Deluxe P6T and he got everything in the retail box. (damn his good luck)

Both have been working great.

I've always had hit or miss luck with open box items.

I bought a video card and it the screen was scrambled. I bought two AC Freezer 7 Pros. One was brand new, the fan didnt work on the other.

I've ordered 3 open box mobos from newegg and have received varying amounts of accessories on two of them and no accessories/generic box on one board. All three boards worked perfectly and I saved ~$250 total or about $80/board. All three worked flawlessly and never any probs from any board. I will buy open box mobos whenever in the market.

I've purchased literally dozens of open box motherboards and other items over the years from Newegg. The success rate has been very high with only a few DOA items that were easily returned.

For MB you mostly get nothing with it, have never received a face plate with the 4 I have ordered. But all of them worked.

Got a monitor, video card, and blu-ray player all openboxed and they still work today.

It seems to rather safe gamble but still a gamble none the less.

open box and refurbs are great a lot of times. I haven't had any problems.

Yes you usually don't get all accessories with open box, but I never had a DOA. I have had DOA new items though...so it could happen with open box as well.

My view on open box is that, something had to be wrong with it for the box to be opened. Either it's a display model, or it was returned by a customer as unusable. Who'd willingly suck up Newegg's 15% blanket return fee on a perfectly working item?

I avoid anything marked "refurbished," "open box," "returned," etc. The policy has served me well so far. :D

I would assume that a lot of them are items that came back as DOA and were fixed by the manufacturer. At least that's the impression I got from Newegg's FAQ.

Open Box items have been opened and touched and/or returned. Because they originate from different situations, they may or may not include accessories, documentation or retail packaging. Refurbishment is done by the manufacturer.

Just received a GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD5 open box from NewEgg. All cables were present and to my ultimate surprise even the backplate was included.

This is what I want to know? I know i returned a ssd that was nonreturnable buts because it was falsely advertised, I only got store credit though.

When you can save over $100.00 bucks it is worth it. I bought 3 Motherboards open box from the egg and everyone worked fine. The i/o shield was missing on one and the sata cables were missing on the other one.

Newegg used to state specifically on pictures of open box motherboards that the accessories will not be included. When some people got some accessories, or full package, they felt lucky.

It's best to expect nothing but the bare board when you buy open box MB from Newegg.

Mine is still going strong after two years with an overclocked 3.6ghz Q6600.

Yes, because we all know that a damaged item could never be the result of user error.

Only if you ask for a refund will you pay a "restocking" fee, and you can easily have that waved if you let them know you found it defective.

And, it's been stated many times that customer returned items are first inspected by the manufacturer before newegg resells them at a discount - sometimes at a large discount.

I've had nothing but good luck with newegg's refurbed video cards and motherboards while saving a whole lot of money over the years, and plan on continuing to do so.

I've only bought one open box motherboard from newegg and I received it with only the motherboard inside a anti-static bag, inside a white no-label box. Oh, and it came with thermal paste smeared all over it.

Again, newegg does not inspect, test, clean, repair or do anything else to customer returns. They leave that up to the manufacturer. Unfortunately, it's apparent that not all manufacturers (or OEM employees) have the same level of responsibility. ;)

My experience (and others) with Asus and Gigabyte refurbs is that they do seem to be lacking (cleanliness, good pin condition, accessories, etc.) when compared to the competition.

i received about 2-3 good boards and 1 was super damaged. They didnt accept my return either. owell ,Most of the time its more positive than negative. Just adding my story.

I have purchased three open-box motherboard from NewEgg in the past three years. All three were socket 775 and did not come with any accessories, just the motherboard and its box. No SATA cables, manual, driver CD-ROM, or I/O backplates. For the price I paid, I feel that they were solid purchases, but your mileage may vary. All three are still functional today, for what it's worth.

my mobo is open box from zipzoomfly
got it around $120
with accessories
works fine
