still need a few more people with some quad cores to add to the points and spread this lead out in the challanges..

I've added 10 cores total (2 C2Q & 1 C2D) to WCG

Hi all WCG-crunchers.
I would like to push for the New Year Challenge which we (the TeAm AnandTech) issued.
We would appreciate if this challenge would develop inte a race - as it is now we feel quite alone at the top.
Some of my TeAm-mates have complained.
If you can find some more computers, cores or team members to join the challenge ...
Best regards,

Petrusbroder
Captain for TeAm AnandTech @ WCG

I just added a E6420 to the mix of folders I have doin' the 24/7 trick. It'll be doin' the WCG client for now. :D

Folding and WCGing for the CURE

Welcome capreppy! Nice to have you crunching with us. You jumped in at a good time with all the ongoing Team Challenges.Give a shout out if you run into any questions/problems that you can't get a handle on. Most of this WCG stuff is pretty straight forward but a bit different from the F@H project.

Hi petrusbroder! Welcome to the Home of the [H]orde.

I was under the impression that this was already a race... but I catch your drift. We're right behind you guys so don't blink. ;)

Unfortunately this contest came at a rather inopportune time. Several of us have jumped on the new CEP and the results from these seem to be a bit slow turning around due to the LONG run times on several of the WU. I don't know if any of your team has experienced this or not. I know from my standpoint, my RAC is down almost 1000/7000 (Boinc/WCG) PPD in the past four days of running on this project.

While I'm certainly not the Team Captain, I think you can rest assured that our little team will be doing our best to give you guys a run for your money. We've added several new members over the past two weeks and have been ramping up quite nicely over the past couple of months so we should be able to make a decent showing for ourselves.

Glad you stopped by to push us on a little bit! We certainly don't mind the opportunity to bloody up TeAm AnandTech a bit.... :D
I'm a casual forum browser over @ AT myself and considered crunching with you guys... But once you've crunched with the BEST there's no settling for the rest. :)

So now that you've thrown down the "gauntlet", I guess I'm going to have to cancel my pursuit of the CEP Badge temporarily and jump back on some points producers.

Seriously though.. you and your "TeAm-mates" are welcome to drop by any time. Even if we beat you unmercifully in this little contest, you'll find us very gracious winners (well aside from a little friendly "poo-slinging") and we promise not to abuse anyone who does drop by. Well... not too much anyway... :p

Cheers!

Way to go JW! It would appear to be good timing. I'm taking a Quad down tomorrow morning after it finishes all it's WU and switching it over from 32 bit XP to a 64 bit 'nix distro as I hear they complete more work per day.

If it works out okeedoke, I'm going to do a second Quad on Monday. I'm also canceling my quest to get a CEP badge for now and get back to producing some better points so we can take a run @ the gang over @ AT.

Crunch On!

we promise not to abuse anyone who does drop by. Well... not too much anyway... :p

I, on the other hand, am unable to make such promises at this time. You WCGer's obviously just don't know how to party. :p

I'm trying to be gentle on the first time visitors so as not to scare 'em off too soon (even if they do come 'round talking SMACK right off the bat) since we don't get many visitors from the WCG realm...:D and they're such a gentle bunch...

You're probably right though, as I was pretty polite in only offering to bloody their noses a bit.. ;)

I guess I could have offered to kick their soft-hardware running, light-weight number crunching, candyasses back across the street. But jebus man... you read the post.... I don't wanna make anyone cry on the first date. :D:D:D

/me slinks off to review the CC '08 Pep Talk DVD

ok time to borg a few more laptops in my house.. theres no way in hell im going down without a fight!!!

Hi nomad8u and alan2308,
LoL, looking at the numbers in the challenge ...

TeAm AnandTech ----- 7,820,142 points :D
HardOCP ----------------- 6,412,650 points
Difference ---------------- 1,407,492 points

You'd have to increase production by approx 20% and to make up the difference.
Probably possible ....
As it is now we are not only blooding your collective noses, we are also kicking your collective butts.

Well, I agree, the new CEP has a slow turn-around. Lets hope that the reward will be good. But that goes both ways, doesn't it? If you get points, so do we, because some of us crunch that project too :)

OTOH, if someone wants to crunch for us, we are always happy to accept ... ;)

he he.. ill get it done... recruiting with monopoly money FTW!!!.. your going down.. :p

im only avging 1 CEP for every 10-15 cancer projects/HPF2.. though im taking a huge hit because i have a bunch of projects waiting to be validated from almost 3 weeks ago.. god darn people that dont leave their systems running 24/7.. not to mention 4 of them are worth 300+ points..

lol borged another laptop.. amd turion x2 TL-60... your going down anandtech!!!

A million plus pernts ain't really about nothin' to the number #1 team in the Universe :D

The "heavy duty" folders on [H]orde team 33 could do a million pernts in their sleep, it's just ATM they're spliting their resources between F@H and WCG

I'm sure if it looks like we're gonna' get our "collective noses" bloodied too bad or get our collective butts kicked some of the [H]orde team 33 "heavy duty" folders will jump in and unbloody our snozzis (nooses) and prevent us from getting our "collective butts" kicked too bad, I like that "collective" thing ;))

(20%)

Peter...Peter...Peter... where to start.

I guess first off, it's nice to see there are some other stats w[H]ores in the world besides myself.

While I agree you've got a bit of a lead at this point, I don't think it's insurmountable or even a stretch for us to push an extra 20% output. We'll work on that for ya! :D

The WCG team here is a pretty laid back bunch of dedicated crunchers that wasn't aware anyone really took these Challenges at WCG to heart. Since we know there is at least one team that does, we may be so inclined to take it a bit more seriously.

This one gets a separate reply... While we feel a certain amount of collective sorrow and concern for your team mates complaints and we DO know how lonely it can be at the top, for future reference, it's more of a challenge and really only a race when you DON'T wait until the race is 1/2 way over to challenge another team personally. It's never really much of a race when you wait until you're ahead and have your team ramped up to call out someone. But putting that little "faux-pas" aside, don't think this is over yet. We'll see who's looking for cotton balls to stuff up their nostrils come January 2nd...:p

Oh, sorry, ;) But you know, I know your reputation :D ... so I hoped that you would crunch a wee bit more. And I hoped, and hoped, and hoped, and hoped (repeat to a total of 13 times) but ...
I do not regard hoping for better times as a "faux-pas", I think that is kind of more polite, kind of more in tune with being more laid back @ WCG ... ;) .
Then I thought: Hey, they are so laid back they may not have noticed, I'd better tell them ... which I did . You know, hope dies hard ...

By the way, we have also a with-in-the-team-race going on in Folding@Home. For TeAm AnandTech December is a traditional racing month, and we don't mind having competition - that brings out the best in all of us ... :D

Oh, cheers to you all!

Oh man. I love challenges. Time to go throw a few more cores toward the Horde. Im sure I can find some somewhere. :D

Come on Horde - lets go.

I dont take well to challenges. Its unfortunate that I have given away my processor usage to danni for this month. See you in the next challenge :)

That's the spirit! We're just getting started. I can't believe they were having a race and waited so long for a personal invitation..

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! Team spirit FTW!

Alright boys 'n girls it's time to kick the tires and light the fires!
We have been challenged! By Team SoftTech no less... so we have to ask ourselves.

1. Are we going to let a little head start and a 1.5 million point lead slow us down?
A: You're kiddin' right...

2. Are we up to a challenge? Can we compete? Do we have the drive to take these guys on and WIN?
A: OH YEAH!

3. Is there more D at your disposal?
A: There's ALWAYS Moar D! (Insert quantity here:_____)

For anyone wishing to jump in and help biatchslap AT, if you're not currently running the WCG/Boinc client, follow aldamon's excellent setup guide here. You can either get the latest WCG branded Boinc client directly from WCG or to run the regular Boinc client see this thread for the latest Boinc clients.

The team name is HardOCP the Boinc TeamID is 1411 and a direct link to our little band of merry crunchers is right here.

While everyones' preferences as to what "cause" or project they like to contribute to is a truly personal one. For the purposes of this race I thought I'd throw out there for your crunching pleasure the highest scoring/fastest turnaround projects.
Fight Aids @ Home has two different quorums depending on the WU. A quorum of 1 and a quorum of 2. These are decent scoring WU and crunch pretty fast Nutricious Rice for the World is a 10 hour WU and scores pretty well on a faster processor (2.8ghx+). It has a quorum of 10 out of 19, but seems to turnaround pretty quick. Lastly is the Clean Energy Project (CEP). It's a quorum of 2 and the times vary as the WU lengths vary from 3-26+ hours on a 3.4ghz Q6600. They can take a couple of days to turnaround but score very well. I've had a couple score from 450-600+.

This isn't to push what to run, just throwing some info out there...

Let's show these guys/gals what [H]ard DC'n is all about!

welp my athlon xp-m 2400+ barton core decided it no longer wanted to run for me.. i think the fans dying .. even though its been running 24/7 for the past month or so.. im suprised it lasted this long.. keeps hitting the thermal limit after about 3 hours of 100% load..

I've got an AthlonXP 2600+ Barton (unlocked) that I no longer run. Depending on where you live I could have it to you in a couple of days. It's still installed and sitting in an NF7S that I was crunching on up until about a month ago. But it won't take me long to rip it out, box it up and get it headed your way.

its automaticly set to support 16 cores.. you can modify it if you only want it using 1 2 3 or all 4 cores..

well this is in a laptop.. i know the cpu's perfectly fine.. it boots up and runs like normal.. just the heatsink on these older laptops absolutely suck.. my pentium m 1.7ghz laptop sits at a constant 68C full load but i could care less if that piece of junk laptop dies..

Bummer.. I saw the "m" but thought maybe you just had a mobile chip in a desktop board.

i wish.. id love to overclock that processor.. but i think ill try doing it again but leaving the cpu usage at 80 or 90%.. since its a lot faster then my pentium M 1.7ghz..

Are you sure?
Wow, we may even like that ... going to the other side - and faster then you! I'll take you up on that race! :p
Come on, who does not want to go to a better place, such as the Paradise. Of course, you [Hard] guys prefer this place ... ;)
On the other hand, no one - not even you - know the time or place of your (or our) demise. Many things may change ... :D

I see a half dozen new crunchers in the past week and two of them from the last 24 hours or so!

Welcome to the team and if you're lurking around the forum, drop in here and say "hey". Come and join the fun as we stomp Team Lightweight all the way back to the stone age. :D

I see a half dozen new crunchers in the past week and two of them from the last 24 hours or so!

The first time I fired up WCG, the list was short enough that I could easily find myself on it. Now it takes a little bit. Good stuff indeed. And, um...

DOWN WITH AnandTech!

Hey y'all, I just converted one of my quads over to WCG :D

That'll boost you up the ranks a bit. :p

I've set all BOINC clients to stop getting work from other projects for now. That should better than double my production once the other units finish and my PPD averages out. I'm coming for the top 10, somebody keep me out.

Nice.. thanks Alan. It's starting to look like we'll have ourselves a race. I just took a system down and after posting this am swapping a HD and going to load up openSuse 11 and get WCG fired back up pronto.

There's lot's of room up in the top 10 come on up! Now if we're talking at the top 8 well... I don't know.. aww come on, I'll be out of there before you get to me. :D

Lookout Team Cheesepuffs!

Added the X2 from my main rig. Should be able to add another C2D tomorrow. :)

Go Horde Go!

Working on adding my X2 system - got to figure out how to do without a videocard in it... :D

gotta do a headless install.. been a while since ive done one though jon.. you might need a card just to set it up but you should be able to do it headless after that.. or go out and buy a useless cheap pci gfx card..

EDIT because i didnt want to double post.. i have now added 2 more borgs to my WCG 1.5ghz C2D laptop and a 2.0ghz C2D :p..
