It seems that Christmas is coming early this year. Some of the TeAm AnandTech members are shutting down their computers because they are goint to their families for the Christmas celebration. The decrease in production in connection with Christmas is a well observed phenomenon on TeAm AnandTech ... :(

But some of us oldies (i.e. those crunchers, to whom the young ones travel) we do not shout down our computers. We will go on. To the glorious end of the race! :D

Well, UPS's are not the problem ... it is the heat.

And yes, the TeAm is not [H]ard enough :p I agree. We are more like a reed, we bend and survive ... no matter what storms blow. The oak falls ...

BTW: You may not be aware of our jubilee: December 26th TeAm AnandTech celebrates its 10 birthday :cool: - which kind of shows, that our strategy works well ... :D

There's been some serious rampage going on. I thought once everything leveled out I could get in the top 10 PPD. Now it looks like staying in the top 20 PPD will be too strong of a challenge. Keep it up everyone!

Yeah, it's been really fun to watch and participate the past couple weeks! It's been an interesting time for sure. Pretty impressive how much the team has managed to ramp for this smackdown. A 28% ramp in under 10 days has been awesome. Which considering the team has been on a pretty consistent upward trend since September this amount of extra push is just damned impressive.

I just hope we're going to make this an annual thing with TAS. It's been a good time and has been good for the team. I do believe the WCG team can claim title to being every bit as [H]ard as the F@H team. Just on a smaller scale. Not surprising really considering there's members that are on both.

I am one of the new regulars crunching as raynman. I came over from the F@H side, where I show up as raynman68, after getting tired of being treated like a rented mule by Stanford. That was in the past and I for one like to look toward the future and the future from my perspective has me crunching here for a while.

Glad you popped in and said "hey". Nice to have you crunchin' with us.

While I agree Stanford's had it's share of issues I think there's a couple of things at play here.

The primary issue IMO is one of resources. WCG has IBM backing it and providing the infrastructure (donating) as well as some full time techs. The individual science projects which are more in line with the resources Stanford has, provide their own dedicated resources at their locations. WCG provides the client, interface and data collection along with basic verification of WU reliability and serve them up to the different projects. With those kind of resources, Stanford's project would have a whole different look.

At one time I believe F@H was running on the grid or was going to I'm not sure which. I have no idea what happened there.

WCG has it's issues. They're just not of the scope and scale of what Stanford has due to those differences in resources. Plus Stanford is really pushing the envelope with trying to get clients updated and out the door (updating SMP clients while trying to get GPU2 up, running and improved). Overall though, considering, I think Stanford does a pretty decent job.

You definitely can't argue with the quality of the end user experience at WCG though.

A fantastic day for Hard OCP and a very nice bump in production by TAS. Good day overall.

We now trail Team AnandTech by only 3%. Our continuing ramp in daily output since 12/13 has put us at a 30% boost over these past 9 days. Wow! Just freaking wow. Great job everyone.

Either we give the challengers a nice present for Christmas OR for their 10th Anniversary. A couple days will tell. :D

I already asked if they were interested in a F@H race after this was done, but the response was less than enthusiastic. They're only 1.1 Billion points back, that can be overcome right? :p

Well, the response was less then enthusiastic because we have an intra team race going on. The team mates want to finish that. :cool:

We are not quite ready yet to take on a team which has 6 times as many active crunchers as we do ... the disparity is way too large. The difference, well it is large, but not impossible - if we could increase the number of folders to twice your level or more. :) :D

One way to race (e.g. next year) would be to level the playing field with some kind of handicap system. But that would have to be thought out in such a way that both teams would be happy. As I know the competitivness of the citizens of the USA, I am not sure that such a reasonably fair handicap system could be constructed ... ;)

BTW, the race is not quite yet over. You may pass us soon but it ain't over until the fat lady sings. You never know what may happen ... :eek:

I think if you come up with a good handicap system we'd be happy to take a look at it.
I thought the "handicap" for this year was waiting until the race was 1/2 way over and you were in the lead and then inviting us to a personal race... :p:D

I hates to tell ya' petrusbroder, but we at the [H]orde helped write the book about that heavyset woman squawkin' :rolleyes: We know all about her singin' to the other loosing teams when they were crazy enough to challenge the great [H[orde team 33 ;)

honestly i think we have about the same amount of active WCG'ers as you guys.. theres just a crap load of people on the team that dont do WCG anymore.. so we might be about the same but we also dont have anyone avg'ing 181,213.81 points a day like your top guy.. so i think it makes it pretty even dont ya think.. :p
