Official PS5 Thread

Sony is selling this for $700 in hopes that a lot of people buy it so they can make up the $200,000,000 million loss from that woke game they pulled.

I buy all the consoles regardless, i mean all of them. I have very little time to play but I still enjoy having them all along with my desktop gaming pc / gaming laptop.

That said, this is probably the first console ill be skipping lol. It just seems like such a let down lol. Lets see what the M$ boys bring to the fight.

saw "$950" trending on x tonight. thought thats weird, click it, thats the canuckistani price!!
Well ... Canada sucks (their pricing, anyway). :p

Current exchange rate is pretty much at $950 can for $699 usd, Canada same have the exact same price than the US.

The Euro price is brutal (700 usd = 634 euro and 535 pounds, the PS5 is 800 euro and 700 pounds..... that wild), Yen depends of what include tax mean because it is also quite expensive in japan.

It's 850 usd conversion rate in Japan, and their economy sucks right now, but it appears Canada is even worse.

Not sure what you mean 950 can is 700 usd ($698) right now, Canada price is perfectly fine.

If you mean Canada economic relative to the US, it did took quite the drop the last 20 years, yes.

Wasn't even that "woke" but it was generic and dull, it felt like a cheap clone of existing free games, but charged you $80 for the privilege of finding that out.
The "wokeness" of the game was honestly the most interesting part... and if that's your claim to being interesting... well then have I got some very bannable words for you.

No.... the analysts expect Sony to sell roughly 1.2 million of them over the next calendar year, based on how well the PS4 Pro sold, the PS4 Pro only sold 1.7 million units it's first year and that was released at $499.
The PS4 Pro didn't even sell 20 million units over it's entire lifetime, topping out around 14.5 million over it's 5 year run.

So this is the expected trend for the units right now.

Yeah, You're right there. I was thinking they sold at least around 20 million pro's. Well Yeah this one will most likely top out at 10 mil in about 3-3.5 years.

I don't think anything's wrong with the price of the PS5 Pro...they are pricing it for the hard core console players who can't or won't get a PC...it's like the RTX 4090 for console players...most don't need it but if you want bragging rights then it's the one to get

It is more like a 4070 super for console players. For those who want shiny cars & Spiderman reflections

It was extraordinarily woke with one of the lead character designers criticizing white people (who make up a large percentage of gamers), with tired and racist nonsense. Each character was incredibly hideous with pronouns in their bio at the character select screen.

https://thatparkplace.com/concord-l...laims-the-judicial-system-is-white-supremacy/

They designed this game to be as actively woke as humanly possible, with ridiculous comments from the devs. I think the only game more woke this year is the other failure, Dustborn, which was literally born out of a hatred for Donald Trump, which is a bizarre foundation for creating a game.

I'm digging the idea of the auto image/performance scaling for PS4 titles, though I'm pretty sure Xbox was already improving certain titles via FPS boost (or whatever it was called). Still, I'm curious to see how the automatic upscaling works, I've tried to play some PS4 titles from my backlog but was turned off by their blurriness and usually repurchase the title on Steam (when I could).

If this thing could upscale the textures to old 2D games, like that AI upscale texture mod that was released for FF IX on PC, I'd pick one up at launch.

In my mind I want something that can upscale and boost the FPS of older titles passively without having the developer do anything. Something that would allow me to go back and play all of those games from the Xbox One and PS4 era that looked great in stills, but had a straight-up trash framerate. Pretty sure the PS5 Pro isn't gonna be able to do that (if such a thing is even possible), but that would make me pay a premium price with minimal complaints.

Unfortunately, I think we're at the point most developers now cap their framerate. It was one thing, back in the PlayStation 1 day, where you never exactly expected to go above 30 fps, so you just kept the framerate unlocked. But with the PS4 and PS4 Pro already setting precedent for quality vs performance, they'll have definitely locked their framerate. The good news though is that probably games which dipped sub 30 can stay at 30, so that will give a smoother experience, but don't expect to suddenly have 60 or 120 fps, even if the PS5 Pro could now run it at those frames.

European and British price includes tax. The VAT in UK is 20%, so it's £583.33 before tax, which is USD $760.49 at current exchange rate. VAT in EU countries vary, but it's as high as 27% in Hungary. Things are also just generally more expensive in Europe.

This has to be enabled game by game. PSSR is coming to approx 50 games shortly

So torn about spending 700 bones on a PS5 Pro. After taxes I am looking at more around 800 in my country. But my PS5 always gets a workout so not sure what I want to do right now.

You can justify buying, if you plan to replay all the games. Or wait for discounts 2 years down the line

The PS6 will be around the corner in 2 years
Going by history, ps6 should take 4 more years

What will come in 2026
  1. Next GTA game
  2. Xbox next — probably the first ever console on an UDNA platform & maybe zen 6c/zen 5c

I'll prolly bite on the first disc drive bundle I see for $750 or less. If it takes a year or so, so be it. I bounce around a lot between my PS5, Switch, and PC too. XSX only gets played when my son and I want to play some co-op Gears or Perfect Dark from XBLA.

The lack of a disk drive is actually one of my main bugaboos with this thing. I don't even need it for games, but I do still have 20'ish movie disks that I still watch. Tacking on an additional $80 (+tax) on top of $700 is kinda the breaking point for me, even assuming I get $400 for my normal PS5. It's like buying a whole new console, only it's only like a PS5.25. It's not that I can't afford it (I'm a 4090 owner FFS) but it's just enough to make it tough for me to justify.

Going by history, ps6 should take 4 more years
PS1: 1994
PS2: 2000
PS3: 2006
PS4: 2013/pro2016
PS5: 2020/pro2024

Could have been covided out of cadence, history is not clear has 6-7 years between generation has been the norm but the refresh took more time, so 2026-2027 (2027 more than 2026) was initially expected, but everything can be on one year delay. The PS4 is still a really popular console in a way the PS3 was not in 2017 (https://www.benzinga.com/general/ga...l-use-ps4-despite-ps5s-strong-sales-heres-why), the industry as yet to really fully transfer to the ps5-xbox X gen, Fifa,c all of duty and other still has good PS4 new release.
2025 release expected:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_in_video_games
PS4 appear 78 times.

Will see if the specs ever get clear, but maybe the PS5 pro was ready for a long time and just took a while to launch, switch 2 style.

By the way is this a case that Moore laws is death and others leakers were 100% right on the nose 5-6 month ago, to the 45% better performance number and everything....

Apparently leakers got hold of sony docs shared with dev & sony issued a copyright strike against the leaked docs

I think I've used my PS5 disc drive once, and that was for Miles Morales (which might've been the pack-in when I bought it). So the lack of a disc drive doesn't bother me, though I would've preferred a 1TB internal drive if that it meant $100 CAD could be shaved off the price (and just add my own SSD).

Actually, looking at the PS5 Slim design, that disc drive bulge is kinda ugly. My OG PS5 doesn't have nearly the bulge. It'd be cool if Sony opened the option to allow 3rd party USB external blu-ray drives to be used when needed. Even if it's only for movie playback.

So, currently playing Forbidden West, and finally tried out the 'motion aim' (gyro-based) and that felt surprisingly good. I've gotten decent aiming with a stick (nowhere near as precise as a mouse), but using the gyro to fine tune aiming felt so smooth. Much easier to fine tune for headshots, specific machine parts, etc. Not sure how popular the feature is, but hoping to try out a FPS using that control method - I've avoided FPS on consoles due to the gamepad requirement, but gyro might change that.

If they did that, if anything it could only be used to play games, not movies. As it seems you have to activate the add-on disc drives online and register it to the system before you can use it, only to comply with copyright law/restrictions for movies.

HI friends. Question. I bought 2 months ago Xbox Series X. Will be worth to upgrade to PS5 Pro or not? ( thx ). Also planning to buy pc but this is other thing.

Buy PC now (with atleast 4070 ti super)

You can buy PS6 in 2028 or Xbox next in 2026

The problem with pro is that it is CPU limited. Not advisable unless you want to play Sony exclusive games immediately

why did you buy an Xbox?...no point...you should have bought the base PS5 instead if you wanted a console...if you're building a PC than no point getting a PS5 Pro
