This should make it much much easier for the matchmaker to build balanced games. The problem now is someone might be a plat DPS but a bronze support, so what happens when they join a plat game and get “stuck” playing support? Either they don’t do it (leading to mucho DPS and no balance) or they do and the other team steamrolls because your support doesn’t know what they’re doing well enough to play the role at the level they queued for.

Now we'll be able to queue up for roles we don't know as well and actually get appropriate teammates and competition, which will allow players to learn and grow. Should be interesting to watch how this goes.

that is how I look at it, will make better matched games.
 
Sometimes I like to switch up from tank to dps depending on the part of the map. Maybe this will eliminate the need to switch if your payload is stuck and you require more damage.

you can't switch, you are locked into that role for the entire match.

I am not sure how groups work though, if you are in a 6 stack you may able to switch roles but you will still be limited to 2-2-2.

I get that, which is why im hesitant. You can already join a group with roles locked, why lock QP?

They're locking quickplay because 2/2/2 is becoming the new official default way that the game is expected to be played - and doing it this way will allow Blizz to focus on balancing all the heroes and gamemodes around it as well. It's similar to when they removed the ability to have multiples of heroes, which is how the game was at release.

As much as any one player may like the game as-is, it's pretty clear that Blizz saw that their game was dying at a much earlier age than many others, and also that their OWL product was suffering because they couldn't balance the game properly without putting some restrictions in place.
