***Official Doom3 Demo1 benchmark thread***

spec in sig. looks like these fit in with what others are getting. 10x7 high is a good spot.

1152x864, high = 29, 33
1152x864, medium = 33, 35.7
1024x768, high = 33.3, 37.5
1024x768, medium = 37.5, 40.6
800x600, high = 39, 45.3

1024x768, Medium - 18 FPS

Quite low eh...is what I'm using for Single Player at the moment though.

I ran at the lowest resolution with all options disabled to see how high I could get:

640x480, Low - 40FPS

Still not that high... :p

Why the hell is this so low?

you can get a much higher number on the first run by using another parameter such as

timedemo demo1 touchFx

It doesn't seem to matter what you add.... timedemo demo1 writeConfig gave the same results.

My numbers were 30.1 for the first run then 33.0, now it's 32.5 for the first then back to 33.0. It's less than a 2% difference, but every run after the second will be +/- 0.1 fps.

I also tried unpacking the .pk4 files, but still get 32.5 on the first run with the extra parameter. Very strange.

Just picked up Doom3 from WalMart (plenty of copies at $49.88, hard to beat) and finished my system's Doom 3 benchmarks. Here they are for reference...

Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe nForce2 motherboard
AMD Athlon 2500+ at 3200+ speed, 1.7v
1GB PC3200 Corsair DDR memory (dual channel)
PixelView GeForce FX 5600 with 256MB DDR memory
nVidia 61.77 drivers, Second monitor disabled

I took benchmarks by going to console and typing timedemo demo1. Here are the results before and after config file optimizations (see below)...

Code:
Resolution No Opts. 1st Pass w/ Opts 2nd Pass w/ Opts
----------------- -------- ---------------- ----------------
 640x480,0xAF,Low 26.8 46.7 50.7
 800x600,0xAF,Med 27.4 35.2 37.4
 800x600,0xAF,Hi 24.9 30.1 32.7
 800x600,8xAF,Hi 26.7 28.6
1024x768,0xAF,Med 19.1 24.3 25.1
1024x768,0xAF,Hi 17.9 21.3 22.4
1024x768,8xAF,Hi 18.7 19.5
Here are the optimizations I used... modify the DoomConfig.cfg file in the Doom3/base directory:
Code:
seta image_useCache "1" //set to 0 by default
seta image_cacheMegs "256" //Set this to 1/4th your system memory
seta image_cacheMinK "20480" //Must be set or turning useCache to 1 will crash game
All three must be set. This caches texture information and causes a HUGE performance increase (smoothness, average FPS), especially in lower resolutions... see the 20 FPS improvement at 640x480!

DooM 3 demo1 settings:

1280x1024, high quality, 2x AF
nVidia trilinear and anisotropic optimizations OFF
cache ON

2nd and 3rd run average = 69.8fps
(1st run = 57.5fps)

Ok, finally figured out why benchmark was fluctuating so much.. Had to go to the nvidia control panel and set monitor refresh rates from forced to application preference. FPS is now constant 90fps 1024*768 high quality 8AF, 00AA. I mostly play DM, and the video lags a bit with more than 8 players online so that is what I run the game at.

1024*768 8AF, 0AA, High Quality, nvidia CP image setting set to high quality, 90.0 FPS 2nd and 3rd run.

At 1280*1024, high quality, 8AF, I get 77fps

I don't get it, according to the HardOCP hardware charts I should be able to run this beast at 1600x1200.

I have a Athlon XP2800+ with a gig of memory.
I have a GeForce 6800GT at 384/1050

At 1024x768 I get 40.2 FPS on demo 1
At 1280x1024 I get 41.7 FPS on demo 1! What is up with that?
At 1600x1200 I get 37.5 FPS

However, when I go in game, 1280 and 1600 are hardly playable.

I'm running 61.77 w/ DX 9.0C. Any ideas?

UPDATE: Think I fixed it. I disabled my second display and now I'm getting 55FPS at 1024 and 45fps at 1280. I had the same problems with the NVidia demos, very weird.

I've been playing single player at 1024x768 Ultra, 16x AF, seriously. Doesn't run blazing fast but its smooth for the most part. It slows down just as much as it did at 800x600 high, and its not even close to unplayable, plus looks totally rad. I never ran a timedemo for that setting though. I'm right at the end of alpha labs now and I havn't had a problem with slowness so far...

Something is borked. Your framerate should MUCH higher. Did you install your motherboard drivers (4in1 Hyperion Drivers)?
