The Goal:
To give people an idea of what FPS they should expect out of their setups.

Procedure:
1) Toggle the console by pressing CTRL + ALT + Tilde Key (~)
2) Type "timedemo demo1" without the quotes, and press enter
3) The first run will probably be very choppy as the system caches all the graphics and sounds. After it is done, repeat steps 1 and 2 for a more accurate, smooth run.

My benchmark
CPU: P4 3.0C @ stock
Mobo: Abit IC7-G
WinXP Professional (fresh install)
Ram: 2GB BH5 Partial PAT, 2-3-2-5 timings @ 200Mhz
Video: BFG6800GT @ 420Mhz/1.16Ghz
Drivers: Forceware 61.77
Resolution: 1280x1024
Settings: NoAA or AF, Vsync disabled, Ultra Quality, everything else enabled.
FPS: 68.5

Comments: Believe it or not, I actually got HIGHER fps @ 1280x1024 with Ultra Quality than just high quality. HardOCP's article mentioned that Ultra had no compressed textures or lighting, so I'm guessing that since I have 256MB of Video ram and a slow P4, compressed lighting would drag the CPU usage up too high. Running at 1024x768 vs 1280x1024 yielded only a 1.5FPS drop, so obviously, my CPU/FSB is the main bottleneck.

Please follow this benchmark format while posting to ensure easy reading.

Thanks :)

is this hkpolice from XS? How did you bypass the 60fps lock ? where did you get your d3?

Most managers wouldn't care for employees taking a game home a day or two before it comes out. Just check this out.

A few BestBuy is already selling it. ;)

I'm glad I got my inside hookups from friends. :D

I have a 2.8C @ 3.4Ghz (243Mhz)
Asus P4C800-E
2X512MB Crucial PC3200 @ 243Mhz 3-3-3-7
AIW 9800 Pro @ Stock Speed w/ Omega 2.5.58 (I believe it's CAT 4.7)
Resolution 1024X768
Settings: NoAA or AF, Vsync disabled, everything else enabled (Image quality set to High in the 3D in drivers settings)
At High Quality: 43.3fps
At Medium Quality: 48.8fps

This has some background software.

I believe so, 60fps lock??? Do you mean VSync, try turning that off?

System Specs:
P4 2.4@3.2 Ghz
1024 MB Ram
Gigabyte X800 VIVO [16 pipes]@XT-PE speed (520/560) w/Catalysts 4.8b leak.

D3 Settings:
1280x1024 resolution
Ultra High Quality
Vsync Off
All settings set to max.

Timedemo 1 Result:
60.2 fps

EDIT:
UPDATE: Cat 4.9b Results
66.3 fps same settings as used above.

I think this was pretty good considering how nVidia is supposed to thrash ATi in D3 yet my score is only 8 fps short of a GT @ ultra speeds. ;)

You're 200Mhz faster on CPU (and your OCed RAM gives more bandwidth), the 6800 is supposed to shine on Athlon 64 w/ NF3 ;) HKPolice have a nice A64 rig, but his mobo blown on him.

I doubt the overclocked ram or 200 mhz clock makes a huge difference here, not to mention his timings are better than mine.

CPUs hardly makes differneces in DOOM3. DOOM3 is very graphic cards dependent.

My benchmark
CPU: Amd thoroughbred @2158 Mhz 1.6v
Mobo: Epox 8RDA+
WinXP Professional
Ram: 2 x 256, 2-3-3-7 timings @ 166Mhz
Video: 9800p softmod XT @420/370
Drivers: Cat 4.8 beta (guru3d)
Resolution: 1024x768 and 800x600
Settings: NoAA or AF, Vsync application preference, ATI control panel Open GL balanced, High and Medium Quality, everything else enabled.

43.1 1024x768 high
46.1 1024x768 med
51 800x600 high
52.6 800x600 med

Comments: Runs pretty good. Without the warm up run the scores were 3 fps lower. Wish I had more memory. What's limiting me the most ?

You're running @ XT-PE speeds :p
Not to mention 266Mhz ram compared to my 200Mhz, and only Partial PAT (running 4 sticks of ram)

In HardOCP's review: http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQyLDI=

The 6800Ultra scored 68.5fps @ 1600x1200 with 8xAF. I'm basically running the video card @ ultra speeds, but I only get 68.5fps @ 1280x1024 which means my CPU is a huge bottleneck :(

You don't think the VIVO will scale with a faster cpu? lolz. Forget what the [H] benchmarks say, these are real world examples and the delta between the cards isn't that great in this game.

How much of an impact does vsync make?

Well you obviously get less tearing, but if you have an ATi card then you get to turn on triple buffering which is nice.

Where did you obtain DOOM3, before its relase date?

FROM BEST BUY OR EB GAMES OR A LOT OF OTHER PLACES THAT SELL IT

I got a 28 on 1280 x 1028 with the system in the sig, but i dont have anything overclocked right now. Too hot here to be adding more heat.

ok i ran some benchmarks while studying:
rez quality aa 1st 2nd run
12x10 high no aa 18.4 25.5
12x10 med no aa 21.7 26.5
10x7 high no aa 23.4 34.4
10x7 med no aa 28 36.6
10x7 med 2xaa 21 30
8x6 med no aa 32.4 43.8
8x6 ultra no aa 18.3 32.3

aa was enabled in ati control panel textures were set to high quality. 2.4B@2.7Ghz 9700pro at stock.
drusier

To show how my card scales with the big boys I ran at the same settings.

Soyo KT880 Dragon 2
2500+ @ 210x11
4x256 pc3500 bh5 cl2,2,2,6
Leadtek 5900u 475/900, 6220 drivers
res 1280x1024, ultra settings, no aa, af or vsynch, all settings on
41.7 fps

Yes I'm editing :D
These are not the settings I'm playing the game on.
Running at 1152x864 on high in game and loving it.

p4 2.53 @ 2.85
fx 5800u stock
1024mb ram
61.77 drivers

1024x768 medium: 47.1 fps

Borrowed the cds from my friend earlier today to see if its was even worth buying in my case (see specs), prolly gonna pick my copy up on the 6th (whenver circuit city has it on sale).

Anyways, I am pleasantly surprised.

In 800x600, Medium Quality w/ everything in the "advanced options" on (except AA) I got 22.5 on the system in my sig. May not seem like alot to you guys, but I am completly shocked the game even runs on my machine since it Doesnt even meet the minimum requirements.

here is my proof

doom3benchmark.jpg

for all the people wondering why people are scoring above 60 fps when that is what the game is limited to:
when you run the timedemo, it turns off the limit so you can get more accurate results for benchmarking purposes, but otherwise the game is locked at 60 fps

with system in sig.

1024x768

Medium Quality - 46.9
High Quality - 42

1280x768

Medium Quality - 31

I'm playing on 1024 high quality, seems pretty good thus far.

p4 2.4c@3.35
512mb @444 2.5-4-3-5
9700p @ 327/327

1024x768 high settings - 23.1fps

whoever can figure out the script to loop the timedemo for stability testing purposes is da man...or woman

don't get too giddy yet...

76.1 fps @ 1280X1024\Ultra High Quality\All Options On

p4 2.4 prescott @ 3.6 ghz (aerocool dp-102)
1 gigabyte kingston hyperx pc4000
abit ai7
pny geforce 6800 gt (430/1.10)
(1) wd 250 gig (1) wd 120 gig (1) seagate 80 gig
dvd burner
cd burner
etc. etc. etc...

I'll add my lowly system to the mix...

Athlon 2500@185
Radeon 9700 300/265
1024MB@2-2-3-11

6x4 Med noAA 48.6
6x4 Hi noAA 46.7
8x6 Med noAA 45.2
8x6 Hi noAA 42.2
8x6 Hi 2xAA 36.7
10x Med noAA 35.4
10x Hi noAA 33.0

12xHi 4xAA 12.8

I was playing at 10x High, but might drop to 8x6 Hi with 2x Temp AA. Haven't used that resolution since trading my original radeon for a 4200 though.

I'm suprised that texture detail doesn't have a bigger impact on performance.

Really jealous of the 6800 now

what type of softmod are you guys using to oc your 6800? or any other card as a matter of fact? is there 1 good program to use? thanks

you can use coolbits just like the previous nvidia cards...

my pny 6800GT is flashed with a Leadtek Ultra bios and has a Zalman cooler on it...

You think your frames are cool now huh ? lol wait until you reach the HELL levels.... your PC will be begging for mercy

I have played the entire game all the way up to where you go to hell for the first time, and I have played everything at 1024X768 NO AA OR AF everything to HIGH, and the game runs at a solid 40-60 frames, but when you reach hell, it is a whole other story.....

We need a benchmark that runs in a hell level :) to show what your frames are when playing the game in a hell level, that is the best benchmark to see how the game really runs on your pc.

My specs are in my SIG if you wanna know.

Here is my score:

(1) 1024x768, Ultra Quality, 4xAA, 8xAF, Vsync=On
Driver = 61.77 with DX9.0c installed

2.8E@3.3GHZ, 1GB DDR400, BFG 6800GT@430/1150

FPS = 34.5

(2) 1280x1024, High Quality, 2xAA, 8xAF, Vsync = Off
Driver = 61.77 w/DX9.0c

FPS = 49.4

(3) 1280x1024, Ultra Quality, NoAA, NoAF, Vsync = off
Driver = 61.77 w/DX9.0c

FPS = 52.3

My results:

P4 3.0C Stock
Gigabyte 8IK1100
1gb Mushking Blue Line
BBA Ati 9800np

at 1024x768 and High Detail I get 35.8 FPS.

AthlonXP Mobile @ 2380mhz (170x14)
1gb PC2700 (dual channel)
evga 6800GT @ 400/1100
61.77 driver with DX9C

(4) runs at 1280x1024, High Quality, 0xAA, 8xAF, Vsync = Off

FPS = 55.0

Seem about right for my rig? And does anyone know how to enable triple buffering in OGL on Nvidia cards....
