*** Official DirectX 9.0c Thread ***

I just Down Loaded DX 9.0c and ran and then rebooted. I ran "dxdiag" after boot and DX 9.0b is still listed under Direct X version.

I ran this on my Win2K laptop before I left work today and it worked fine. Reboot and run "dxdiag: and it shows 9.0c

Any ideas? I even ran the install a 2nd time.

so i went to both links and i still dont understand what SDK is. Can someone explain please? thanks.

the sdk is for developers who write their own programs using directx and want to use the new features ..

end users just need to install the redist package.

I believe the software developer kit is still 9.0b if that's what you downloaded..

I installed directx_9c_redist.exe from the link listed.
"DirectX 9.0c Redistributable for Software Developers - Multilingual"

Ok now that directx 9.0c went official, crytek needs to get there sh$t together and fix the damn 1.2 patch so i can use sm 3.0 again.Heck if they dont release a fix by august 3rd i might as well throw my copy of farcry in my closet of junk, cuz after doom 3 i doubt farcry will even intrest me anymore.

Does 9.0c require Windows FP2? I've read a bit here and there about 9.0c and supposedly 9.0c will be wrapped up with FP2, but does 9.0c require FP2? I don't want to go ahead and install it without FP2 if the fixpak is required.

I'm assuming that you meant to say SP2 all those times right? :p

You do NOT have to have SP2 installed to install the redist of DX9.0c listed at the start of this thread, I've got it installed under SP1 and it's working just fine.....not much for benchmark changes with my 9800XT though, so depending on what card a person has it may or may not be worth installing right away to begin with.

i'd wait for the 62.xx whql drives although i've heard problems with the 62.20's there is meant to be speed advantages with these new drivers

ok so i ran the setup and when it came to the Finalizing part, i got an error that says DirectX did not copy a required file, and then it says installiation failed.

anyone get this?? is there a fix?

i extracted all files to C:\My Documents\TEMP

i just made a folder called TEMP for this procedure.

EDIT: Nevermind, i had to run ManagedDX.rar for it to work. Read the Readme :D

How did you make this work?? I have been updating machines at work and been running into this same prob, i would download the thing and read it here, but im on dialup at home... blah...

I downloaded DX9.0c Official and SDK

Installed DX9.0c first then install SDK

yes and the latest fxc.exe is in SDK folder under it's own folder after installation.

Nice ;)

i wonder are there going t obe any oter DX9's or the DX9.c i the final DX9
are we done with DX9!?
DX10 hah!

i thought dx10 was going to be released when Longhorn is complete and ready to ship...dx10 and Longhorn are supposed to go hand in hand apparently. We may see some more iterative releases of dx9 i the meantime, tho I dont know if the the dx9.0c is the final in the dx9 series or not.

why call DX9.0c

jusst call it FX9.0
LOL Or why not call OpenGL "OpenFX"?

Yes, let's all stand still until ATI decides to support SM3.0. Someday.

BTW, nvidia doesn't use "FX" fom the name of the current cards. FX refers to models in the NV3x line, not the NV40.

Im having issues with the Dx9c install. I've tried to reinstall it acouple times but im still having no luck.

Heres the issues...

If I run the dxdiag I get a "Could not get a basic sound info" error and then once dxdiag loads the dx files tab shows that ddraw.dll, d3d8.dll and d3dim700.dll are out of date...

Does anyone else have this issue? How can I resolve this...

Did you have the SP2 beta DX9.0c installed?

I did and I had the same problem. The regular uninstaller I found didn't completely uninstall 9.0c. It was written in 12/02, right after the first DX9.0 was released.

I had to do a system restore rollback to get it completely uninstalled (back to 9.0a in WinXP SP1). Now it works perfectly with no errors.

Don't worry about ddraw.dll, d3d8.dll, d3dim700.dll. Those are marked with a warning even on the full release DX9.0c and even d3d8.dll in 9.0b says it's out of date.

No, I had 9b but I got the Dx9 rollback tool and that worked. Not issues now. :)

Whats up with these "OFFICIAL" threads? Cant we talk about DX9.0c in any other threads?

Yes but there isn't any point in starting new threads to talk about issues when we can keep it all in one thread and keep a better collection of information.

Exactly, it's not really that complicated or unreasonable if you really think about it. ;) :p

The Doom 3 threads are bad enough even with a sticky that has 1400 posts in it lol.

People would tend to make a billion threads on the same subject, 'specially if the topic moved a few pages down in the forum.

Understanding DX version numbers:

In this case it was a "Letter" change which means:

The Letter changes for feature enablement already exposed in API, bug
fixes, performance updates, etc.

I have a very strange problem with DX9.0c....I did have the SP2 beta version with no problems but I decided to format and start out clean for my 6800GT. After formatting and installing the latest Intel inf then the 61.77's I downloaded the end user 9.0c and everything installed fine. When I open up dxdiag and run the direct 3d tests the cubes are like "super accelerated" moving so fast I can't even read the directx on the side. Games run fine...at least Far Cry and NFS:U because that's all I have installed so far...should I worry about it?

When u have cubes moving so fast in DxDiag is bcoz u have Vsync off, u can turn Vsync on and test again and it won't move too fast anymore

vsync makes the FPS stay/go no higher than your refresh rate no?

Sorry if this has already been asked.... I read only the first and last pages

Is the SP2 RC required to install DX9.0C?
