I'm curious if the SDK has the updated fxc.exe that the FarCry 1.2 patch SM3.0 readme file mentioned. I'm running SP2 RC with DX9.0C, but I couldn't find that updated file on my system.

Edit: Yep, there is an updated fxc.exe in the SDK. Those of you messing around with SM2.0B/SM3.0 and FarCry 1.2 might want to give this updated file a try.

Here's some instructions for installing this if you've already got a beta 9.0c installed. Thanks go to ultimate17 for posting these at nvnews:
1.) Go to "start" then "run" type in " regedit " but without the " "
2.) Browse to then remove the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectX (dont delete ANYTHING else, just that one directx folder, and there shouldn't be a space in Microsoft, the forum put that in there automatically)
3.) Reboot
4.) Go to "start" then "run" now type in "dxdiag", when the main page loads up it should show next to directx version, "not available"
5.) Now install the dx9.0c you got from the microsoft website via the link above, you will then need to reboot again automatically
6.) Once you reboot go back to start, run, dxdiag...you will now see where directx version: once said "not available" now says "dx9.0c
 
Is this the final version of DirectX 9.0c or will there be more beta releases before the final version that is to be included with the final SP2?
 
I'll install it in a little while. I have the beta installed now with the hotfix applied. I'll let you know after the SDK is also finished downloading.

It looks final since there's no mention of a beta anywhere.
 
The Direct X diagnostic tool (dxdiag) lists the Direct X 9.0c files as "Final Retail" - I think that's about as much confirmation as one needs....
 
Yeah it does look final. So you have to download both and install both? Or do you just download the SDK one?

To RickJames, you do not have to download the SDK to install DirectX on your box. Just the redist.

To JKA, yes, Microsoft plans to make DirectX 9.0c part of SP2.
 
That looks like the new official SDK so that should be the official 9.0c that's shipping with it. The file is intended after all to be redistributed with products using DX9.

Yes 9.0c is part of SP2 but as of the last version of SP2 out it only had the 9.0c beta. This should be the final product.
 
Makes me wonder what it will do on an SP2 install ;)

I'm hoping that the SP2 installer is graceful enough to tell whether or not an upgrade is necessary. Even if a copy of DX9.0c is installed over a previous copy of exactally the same thing, the end result should be nothing more than a couple of files with newer date stamps.
 
While I have downloaded the redist I'm going to wait on results from users around here before I make my final move. I'm not sure how much (if any) of an impact 9.0c will have on my 9800XT.....although I am planning on a 6800GT in the next month or so.....so we'll see.

Come on ppl, bring forth your experiences with 9.0c.....6800 results will be nice to see, but I have a feeling that more of us are going to be waiting to see how r3xx and older hardware fairs.

i doubt you will see much of a difference if any. but once you get the 6800gt then you will really notice

That's how I'm assuming it's gonna play out.....but being the insane benchmark whore that I am.....it's tough to resist the chance to try out a new version of DX, or a new driver and such. Sorry, it's just the way I am. ;)
 
I got no difference in 3DMark03 scores between the SP2 and final redist 9.0c.

Exactly 11934 on both. It's more of a coincidence because a couple of the scores are different, but that's interesting.

right-click and "copy" that compare URL in your project description when you're logged in.....doing a copy/paste of the address bar url often doesnt work for ppl not currently logged into the ORB.
 
Well it wont install on SP2 for me so just going to leave it alone for now, SP2 is a bit more stable for me than SP1 ever was, mebe I'll fart with it later this week or sumfin.

I haven't given it a shot yet, but I thought ppl were already referencing to 9.0c being included in SP2.....or is it not EXACTLY the same thing in the service pack?

BTW: I don't really pay attention to MS release dates.....do we have a final release date for SP2 yet or are ppl still just playin' around with the beta?

From what I've seen posted here what is included in SP2 is an earlier build, but so far I haven't been able to update so go figure.
 
Where can i get DirectX9.0c without all the extra stuff...?

i downloaded directx_9c_redist and it wants me to extract files and stuff, shouldn't it just install like all the other times?

it extracts the setup files...this isn't the happy sunshine install...this is the copy for developers to bundle with thier products...

so just extract it to a temp dir then goto the dir and run the install...

it extracts some cab files and an exe installer, just extract it and install, then delete the extracted files
 
I'm running 9.0c right now.

Did some benchies and only got changes that were within the margin of error. ie: 3dmark03=up slightly, 01 SE=down slightly, aquamark3=up slightly.

Other than that everythings running normal.

btw, when I say slightly I mean +-50pts
 
ok so i ran the setup and when it came to the Finalizing part, i got an error that says DirectX did not copy a required file, and then it says installiation failed.


anyone get this?? is there a fix?

i extracted all files to C:\My Documents\TEMP

i just made a folder called TEMP for this procedure.

EDIT: Nevermind, i had to run ManagedDX.rar for it to work. Read the Readme :D
 
In stalled it on my laptop, got a 100 3dmark advantage. Nothing really.

On the desktop, it made the score a few hundred points lower. Course it's an old video card.
 
i got an extra 700 3dmark03 at a quick once try, evga 6800 GT, went from 11000 flat to 11700
 
GAH!!! Of course Microsoft being the ever intelligent corporation didn't include support in the setup for XP64 (I know it's still beta, but still, I should be able to run the newest and the bestest like everyone else, i mean they included 9.0b in the beta)
 
Yep, won't install over the SP2 9.0c....I still have one debug file in my SP2 9.0c but according to pxc's post I guess I shouldn't worry about it.
 
Hmm, maybe I will give it a shot tonight. I'll do some before and after tests of 3DMark2001, 3DMark03, and Aqumark3 so I can see exactly how they differ.....and I'll let you guys know.

Oops I forgot to mention that. I have to use safemode to restore the default DX from the installation CD. It didn't completely work... directsound wasn't uninstalled properly and clashes with the retail DX9.0c.

For now I'm going back to SP2 DX9.0c until I find an uninstaller that works properly... or I might just sit down and manually unregister all the SP2 DX9.0c DLLs, delete the files and reinstall the retail DX9.0c.

Heh, sounds like fun.....I think I'll just wait for a "retail" release of SP2 before I start playing around with it at all.....just cus I'm lazy, and I need things like that handed to me on a silver platter. ;)

But anyways, I'm done the little bit of before and after testing I was gonna be doing with 9.0c on my 9800XT and I'll have the results up soon in a seperate thread in Video Cards.
