Official Crysis 2 Thread

estimates that are very accurate. most sales numbers for any product are estimates. Humans have spent alot of time getting great at estimation. most elections can be called very reliably and early due to estimates. hell look at movies. they usally have the movie sales for the weekend by saturday and they are almost always right.

Even if the estimates showed slightly better sales numbers it still wouldn't be that great for a triple-A game release. I doubt that the digital sales gave it much more of a gain.

EA claims it's their biggest launch of the year so far, but that's not saying much. Cevat Yerli might be happy about it.

Well, according to VGChartz (I dont know of their reliability, I'm just quoting numbers...)

Crysis 1 - First 4 weeks
PC - 225,000
Total = 225,000
Lifetime total = 764,812

Crysis 2 - First 4 weeks
PC - 164,000
360 - 692,000
PS3 - 452,000
Total = 1,308,000

And once again, according to Crytek Lifetime total is 3M+.

VGChartz is not accurate for PC games (given that digital distribution is not tracked), especially in respect of PC games from 4 years ago.

In terms of numbers, Crytek has confirmed in financial reports that it sold 3 million of Crysis 1 and 1.5 million of Warhead.

Yeah, I didn't think online sales would contribute 75% of sales for Crysis 1. Perhaps it has, but either way... we go back to the same thing of "what is the significance of the VGChartz figures", and it doesn't seem like a lot (except for comparing to other console games).

If they dont take into account digital sales then you can't compare the figures to Crysis 1 at all, as we dont know how significant digital sales are these days compared to the Crysis 1 days.

The VGChartz figures are relevant in so far as they demonstrate that console sales were not anything to write home about. Whether PC sales make up the shortfall obviously remains to be determined, but I honestly doubt that it will given the mixed reception by PC users.

Here is the Crytek investor presentation confirming sales of Crysis 1 and Warhead in case you are interested:

I'm sorry, but in case of PC the digital sales are very important. I would not fear to say that at least 1/3 if not more of PC sales are the digital sales.

Plus you are comparing Crysis 2 to CoD series, a overhyped game which the buyers would buy it even if it switches to Mario style.

Comparison to MoH is more relevant - and surprise, suprise, numbers are very close. Do not expect every game to be a CoD, which is a very exceptional game (in sales, otherwise it is a junk).

I question the accuracy of VGChartz if Crytek say Crysis 1 sold 3M and VGChartz says 800k. Yeah I know digital sales and all... but I wouldn't expect digital sales to account for 75%.

Is there any reason to believe the console figures are close to accurate?

I have never disputed that digital sales are important to PC, but I think that many PC users are acutely aware of the compromises made in developing Crysis 2 which in turn will impact on sales. Being even more generous, lets assume that half of all PC sales are digital and that the physical unit sales reported on VGChartz is accurate. That still only results in 330,000 sales worldwide in a 4 week period.

By way of comparison, Crysis 1 sold over a million copies in approximately the same period.

I acknowledged it was an extreme example, but the implicit point being made was quite simple.

Numbers close?! MoH sold more in one week than Crysis 2 did in a month

Look I don't know how many times you want people to repeat this to you but VGChartz is generally accepted as being accurate when reporting on console sales. You will probably find that none of their figures for PC games from 4 years ago are accurate, but that not mean that their current figure reporting is not up to date.

The only comparison we have is VGChartz saying Crysis 1 sold 225k and Crysis 2 164k. Given it doesn't include digital sales I dont think yu can say anything significant about a difference of that size as I'd assume digital sales are a bigger slice of the pie now compared to 4 years ago.

I'm sorry but an inaccurate figure from a 4 year old game does not invalidate the comparison which can be made based on VGChartz' current figures and Crytek's acknowledged figures for Crysis 1.

I wasn't aware it was generally accepted as being accurate when reporting console sales, all I keep hearing is how the sales are at best questionable.

You have heard that from a couple of users, with just as many users disputing that assertion. In any event EA is having an investor conference call next month so we will see if they have anything to say about it then. The fact that they have not published any press releases gloating about sales is a pretty good leading indicator as to what we can expect to hear.

So we're gonna compare the first 6 weeks of Crysis 1 sales as reported by EA and including digital sales (1 million) with Crysis 2 sales from an estimation on VGChartz for the first 4 weeks which doesn't include digital sales and has proven to have questionable accuracy (0.16 million).

Ok if that's what you're doing, fine. But to me it sounds like there's a fuckload of extrapolation involved in that comparison.

I actually googled "vgchartz accuracy" and came up with a few articles on how they obtain their data and some results that have been wrong by large margins in the past, even on console games. Yeah, I think waiting for EA's conference would be best rather than extrapolating on data.

It is in no way even close to being accurate. Heck even the publisher cannot tell you how many copies of the game have been bought by users at any given point of time... all they can accurately tell you is how many copies they have sold to retailers and assume that everything before the last order was sold out. VGChartz is not privy to any of this information, especially not on a global scale. And their PC predictions are absolute bullshit because Valve does not release Steam sales data to anyone in the world. VGChartz 'scientific method' of predicting PC sales probably relies on looking at the Steam top sellers list and guessing a number. That's something I can do as well. Neither of them will be accurate.

Speaking of numbers, I like how VGChartz has the audacity to pinpoint a specific number of copies sold (692,037 or whatever) without even giving a margin of error or a range. It's awesome how accurate their formulas are that they can predict down to the last unit. You know what? I say that Crysis 2 on the 360 sold 937,143 copies. Can anyone prove that VGChartz numbers are more accurate than mine?

Bottom line... VGChartz is pure speculation. Until the publisher is forced to reveal sales numbers during earnings reports, or they make an announcement otherwise, no one in the world can accurately say how many copies of a game sold. VGChartz is used mostly by fanboys to further their arguments of "hey look, my favorite game sold more than yours" or "hey look, this game sold more on my favorite console than yours" or, in this particular case, "look how stupid Crytek were to go multiplatform with my precious PC exclusive, now look they are suffering for making that decision".

This game is hard. I had to drop the difficulty all the way down to recruit, and I'm still getting slaughtered by the aliens.

Anyone know if Steam ever price matches? Amazon has C2 on sale for $39. Steam is still $59.

Nope. Steam is getting killed by retail and increasingly by competitors like D2D in terms of actually trying to be competitive and aggressive on pricing, price drops, and timely sales.

It's really getting kind of ridiculous. It's like Valve is living in a glass bubble or something.

I prefer Steam myself for going digital but my wallet comes first. Always.

Valve is cashing in on its extremist fans, considering some of them don't buy games on anything except Steam. Cashing in.

I have never bought anything off steam unless it's on a steam sale and under $20 so Portal 2 will have to wait. Same for Crysis 2, etc.

Yeah, it's a case of having more money than sense. Fuck the convenience. Steam is a great service, but I'll go elsewhere or even buy the retail disc if it's cheaper.

Is there any data on this stuff?

I buy pretty well any game on Steam if it's on there, and I'd pay another $5 to get it if it's through my Steam account. Just because there's a sale at a competitor doesn't mean that Steam is instantly obligated to meet that price...vote with your wallet if it's a big deal to you.

I started playing this yesterday. I had been sitting on it waiting for the DX11 patch, but I just finished Killzone 3 (fucking epic) and am in the mood for more FPSing. I'm enjoying it, but you can tell Crytek really cut a lot of corners to shoehorn the game onto consoles. So....I probably should have waited until it's $20 on Steam. Oh well, it is fun and pretty enough as long as you don't get close enough to anything to realize how low res everything really is.

My personal experience is that the more time I spent in the game, the more I enjoyed it. The ending really didn't put the icing on the cake but the moderate customization helped me enjoy it overall. I want to replay the experience even more when DX11 is available & I hope it doesn't disappoint.

I'm actually looking forward to playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution even more since Crytek dropped the ball in a few places due to certain console-oriented features.

The next move by Valve will be another idiotic scheme, much like the potato sack, where they hint that "if you buy these games, HL2 Episode 3 will be released sooner"

The flock of Valve fanboys (the Church of Freeman) will buy tons and tons of games in that prospect. Obviously Valve will not release HL2 Episode 3 at all and will continue the scheme for as long as suckers buy games like that (as they did with the potato sack).

Hilarity ensues every time I read that a certain person not only wasted money on those games, but actually spent hours and hours playing them, thinking that Portal 2 would actually release sooner. The game ended up being released on the exact same day, only a few hours earlier, which had no consequence, since people would only play it at night, or at the very least in the morning. I wonder how many times they've been playing the games from the potato sack after Portal 2 was released ? I'm betting not many...

where is this dx11 patch, hahaha nice move for fools who belive it will be pc game hahaha yeah 60$ loosers

Anyone having flickering in Crysis 2? I can change the brightness up or down each time I play the game and I don't have the issue. I've tried the current and BETA drivers, same issue. The BETA driver makes the game run like total shit.

I just wish more people was on multiplayer, the Australian servers are all empty during the day and at night there are only like 2 servers that people are actually playing.

Hopefully when Crytek releases the DX11 patch, more people will buy this game and play online.

lol sure people gonna dump bf, cs, cod just to play the stupid online mode in true dx11..

I doubt many people are holding out for a DX11 patch before buying it. In fact, I'd say the number of people who are is insignificantly miniscule.
