Official Crysis 2 Thread

So far the SP looks to me like nothing more than a smoother playing and better looking Crysis 1 which is fine by me, I loved the original game.

Same here. I'm very happy with it so far myself. It just seems like almost every thread I go in that there's people that go way out of their way to just hate.

Look. If you liked Crysis you'll like this at least as much and possibly even more. If you didn't care about the first Crysis there's nothing here for you.

I'll have to try MP a little bit later.

Oh and FYI yes there are problem with the LE content activation, I've had to put in my serial multiple times now and it's really really fucking annoying. Honestly I loved Crysis but HATED the DRM, again even with the digital I hate the DRM (I bought it digitally and you won't even let me copy paste my key, FU.).

If I had picked this up for 30, I wouldn't care but I paid a premium price for a half-assed console version of a game and I'll remember that next time you release a game Crytek.

Oh and just a note, if you Power Kick something (like a car) there is no damage done to the car from where you kicked it.

I get god awful flickering with crossfire enabled. I have installed the latest CAP4 profile and nothing has changed. This sucks :(

11.4 Preview
11.2 CAP4

I got a 5970 here so I don't know if this will help you. Rename Crysis2.exe to bioshock.exe. It resolved the flickering issue for me.

Anyone else having disc read issues? I tried it in both my LiteOn DVD/RW drive and my LG Blu-Ray/RW drive and it won't read it.

Makesure your DVD/RW/Blue-Ray/RW have their firmware updated. If that doesn't work. Go to ea.com download the EA Download Manager log in with your EA account. Put your Crysis 2 CD Key in and download it from EA and play it. Remember when you uninstall EA Download Manager you can't play the game.

Is this a widespread issue with xfire and Crysis 2?

It could be the preview drivers that I am using. Preview is like beta for AMD. I was about to revert to the official drivers. But I still have to beat Dragon Age 2 on the "bad" ending.

Downloaded via Steam in 22 minutes @ 6.5Mbs. Started right up, setup account, and played an hour of SP. It looks pretty good and plays (with hardware in my sig) beautifully! Really smooth framerates. Screen res is 1920x1200 and graphics settings are set to 'Extreme' and VSync is enabled. No in-game AA settings but there is not much jaggies while playing the SP levels. Sorry no screen pics yet. Can't decide how to compare the graphics to the original Crysis, however. Crysis 2 looks really good but almost in a console, arcade kind of way. I'll have to reinstall Crysis and compare, but I remember Crysis really looking and 'feeling' more detailed (ie. plants move to your walking thru them, damage to vehicles, terrain detail). Regardless, I'm happy with the visuals and gameplay seems fun at this point. YMMV, obviously.

There's no AA options?

excerpt from PCgamer

This game may look and play best on PC, but the cross-platform development has definitely had an impact. Specifically, it’s disappointing to see that Crysis 2 makes some absolutely baffling technical omissions. The graphics settings menu offers just four areas to adjust: resolution, v-sync, HUD bobbing, and one of three pre-defined quality settings. Why can’t I pick what level of anti-aliasing or shadow quality I want in PC gaming’s most beautiful game? Quick-saving, too, is replaced by checkpoint autosaves; a developer console was also nowhere to be found.

Having finished the game (I have to mention the conclusion to the campaign, which left me more sour than BioShock’s infamously anticlimactic final battle), I feel like its sins had at most a modest impact on the raw, athletic fun I had dismantling the Ceph in a gorgeous urban setting. I’ve got piles of complaints, sure. But I still got to spend eight hours—and many more satisfying moments in multiplayer—killing aliens and mercenaries with the most high-resolution, entertaining gunplay since FEAR in the skin of gaming’s most empowering avatar. The thrill and spontaneity of outfoxing enemies with invisibility, snapping a machinegun turret off its stand and wading into danger, or sprint-leaping through the Big Apple in heavy armor is something you can’t get anywhere else on the PC.

I'm think Im gonna wait. The aliens in the first game were the worst part of the game(aside from it constantly crashing on the end boss) so playing an entire Crysis with just the aliens. I don't know. Waiting on more reviews.

Installed Crysis and updated to patch 1.21. After cranking the in game settings to their highest with 8x AA, my initial reaction is 'Damn!...How does a game this old still look so good?!'. While the graphics might look a little 'dated' compared to Crysis 2, I'm kind of leaning towards better PC graphics overall with the original. Hope the anti-Crysis peeps don't hate me too much for that statement. :p

so Crysis 2 will only get DX11 added in with a future patch?...how long do we have to wait for it?

No telling at this point. The announcement that was coming "soon" 3 weeks ago is nowhere to be seen on the game's official launch day.

I don't see any in-game graphics options except 'resolution' and system specs (High, Very High and Extreme)...is that all there is for now?...I have it set to 'Extreme' but cmon is that all until the patch?

Can anyone confirm whether or not you can change the FOV (or if it needs to be changed in the first place)? And if it can be changed whether or not you can do so from a menu or you have to mess with a config file.

Do it from the console.

r_fov 70 or 75 is what I use. Default is like 55 but that is vertical so it may be alright for you already.

It just utterly baffles me that people think Crysis, a game that's four years old, is still the bees knees. Are we even playing the same game? It's ugly. It looks dated. Time to move on.

I have a theory that ten years from now people are still going to be saying that Crysis is the best looking game on the market. It's... ludicrous!

The problem is that Crysis still looks better than Crysis 2 in some parts. In most parts, they are about equal.

It will be sad to see your prediction come true but it may hold true if the current consoles are not replaced with new technology or PC gamers are freed from the bounds of the DirectX API.

Every game published within the past 24 months looks better than the 4-year-old Crysis.

The only PC game that looks better than Crysis is Metro 2033. There may be one or two more when heavily modded.

Name me one other published in the past 2 years that looks better than 4 year old Crysis?

One other game? Hmm, alright then. If pressed to do so, I'd have to say, Yahtzee!

No, but seriously, I'm downloading this right now. I upgraded my internet plan, and downloads are anywhere between 15 and 20 times faster. For most of you guys, an hour and a half to download this might seem slow, but last month, I kid you not, this download would have taken me twenty hours. I have no idea how I was functioning on High Speed Light before - this new plan is only costing me an extra fifteen bucks a month too. I'm in business now.

You're right. This must be DirectX 12. I stand corrected.

Aaaaaaaaand I can't even get the game to launch. What the fuck, can't be serious. And of course there's no way to uninstall and reinstall without redownloading since I don't have EADM set to save the downloads. FFFFFFFFF.

The launcher launches according to Task Manager, and that's it. The demo worked fine.

Does Crysis 2. exe even show up as a regular icon for anyone? For me it does not and then it says Windows cannot access the specified path. You may not have the appropriate permissions. I am admin here.

Did the game autopatch? Apparently that's the first thing that happens. You've got the latest EA updater installed - correct?

Yeah it autopatched, and then it didn't do shit.

Does the Crysis 2 executable look like a normal executable, with an icon, for you? The launch executable looked normal but the game exec was fucked.

The original Crysis looks SIGNIFICANTLY better maxed. When I started C2 I was shocked at the downgrades in the textures, which now look like a Call of Duty game. The effects look better than the average game but way worse than Crysis. Definite concessions in things like water, godrays, explosions, smoke...basically everything.

Yeah I've got the same problem now. Neither the regular exe or the launcher will work.

Has anyone figured out how to turn off motion blur? I hate motion blur in games it gives me a headache.

I installed it earlier but I couldn't get it to log on with my mycrysis.com login for some reason.
Gonna play it in about 30 minutes when I get some time.

I think this is going to be debated a lot. I think Crysis 2 overall looks better and I've had Crysis 1 pretty much as maxed out on my sig rig. Textures don't look as high but the geometry looks better, vehicles don't look as blocky for instance. And this game looks a plays very well in 3D at the Extreme setting.

I don't know about the retail game, but demo multiplayer - I remember looking down at a leaf as I started and thinking "That looks like shit".

If Kyle doesn't do side by sides I will. Crysis looks better no if and or buts.

Oh hey, Yahtzee in DX 12 mode.

Um, Crysis... the shadowing is the star of the show here. The whole thing just looks like... Crysis... except that it takes place in the... uh, city... and it actually runs well. The middle graphic setting is nice. I don't see much need for sliders and the like. I don't actually want to tinker too much with this one. It's just a nice looking game, I'll leave it at that.

I like it. It's taking some getting used too over the last too. The story is decent so far, and it looks good. I just can't wait for AMD to get a profile for this game to get crossfire working. There have been reports of renaming the exe to Rift, or Bioshock and it works correctly.

Yeah, the uh... geometry really is more advanced. That's where Crysis really shows its age. Damn, and I said I was going to leave it at that.

the fact that it can be argued wether or not crysis 2 or crysis is better looking is just sad, kinda like the what it felt like when you walked out at the end of the phantom menace. such a shame

You and I both know you can't leave it at that. I'm trying to put together some screenies of Crysis 1 and 2 as piscian mentioned and then I'm going to put on the glasses for a couple of hours and dig in.
