Official Catalyst 4.4 Thread

Blaaaa BF-Vietnam issuse with AA and AF not fixed yet (bug: 4500)

wow.....i never installed the 4.3's..........any improvement in ut2k4 with these or the 4.3's?

I'm gonna be all over these babies in a few minutes.

Just a quick plug, anyone who wants to make there testing as accurate as possible should check out my guide on doing the update.

Expect some "before and after" benchmarks from me before the day's up.

NP, be sure to tell your friends.

Bah, now ATI has got me all ancy over what they've got coming up for Catalyst in a few months.....screw the 4.4's. :p

Seriously though, I hope they've finally put out something that performs better for me then the 3.9's.....I'm due for a change.

I'll have a few synthetic comparisons ready in an hour (hopefully) with some more in depth ones (PS2, VS2, etc.....) tonight.

yeah, im still runnin the 3.9's... update is needed... but UT and everything run sooo well :)

I'm hoping it sees a little bit of a gain.

Even if I get the SAME performance I might keep 'em.....just 'cus I've had the 3.9's installed since their release in January or something.

Hmm. They mention the FarCry demo. I wonder if they did anything to the full version?

Eh , 4.4's are doing anything except dropping scores on all my benchies. Dropped Aquamark by 5k , that and seems to dropped some performance for me in the games I play. I guess I'm sticking with the Omega3.7's :(

I hope I dont see more of the same, but I'm gonna finish up all this timestaking testing anyways. I'm gonna have a full range of tests sythetic and not, with and without AA/AF for you guys tonight so sit tight. ;)

issues were already fixed for full ver. far cry...

No differences noticed so far (But I don't play any of the affected games) There still seems to be a pretty big outstanding issue with Prince of Persia and Radeon 8500/9100's.

There is no more "should not see me" window at the end of the install. And these install very quickly, just like the last set.

I finally finished all my "before" testing with my 3.9's.....now onto the 4.4's.

Here's a list of all the tests being done:

3DMark2001
3DMark2001 /w 4xAA 8xAF
3DMark03
3DMark03 /w 4xAA 8xAF
Aquamark3
Aquamark3 /w 4xAA 8xAF
Unreal Tournament 2003
Unreal Tournament 2003 /w 4xAA 8xAF
Quake III Arena
Quake III Arena /w 4xAA 8xAF
Shadermark v2.0
3DMark2001 VS, PS, ADV PS
3DMark03 VS, PS, Ragtroll

What's worse is that I'm running some of the synthetics 2 or 3 times 'cus they have a tendancy to sprout mystery scores from time to time, and I wanna make sure I'm not comparing a fluke score to a normal one.

Gimmie a little while here and It'll all be ready to go.

I still dont have the truform option. I know there was some mysterious tab where it was placed on the 4.3's but I never had it......and still don't have it

Isn't it in the 3D tab, down at the bottom? Or is that different?

That's a nice review for sure, but I'm still gonna finish my testing.

All I can say is that you will all be pleasently surprised by the gains I'm seeing in Shadermark and most other DX9 numbers. A lot of my 4.4 numbers in 3DMark03 at stock clock are right around what I was scoring at 455/820 with the 3.9's. :D

I'm almost half done the 4.4 tests.

This is making me happy:D . i hope this will help me reach 7,000

You can tell they are starting to struggle the deadline in my opinion because this release has a lot less game fixes and updates then all the previous if I remember correctly

ok i just installed the new cats 4.4 and for some reason it says that my card is a C.P. technologies Inc RADEON 9600XT Bravo. Should i be worrying about this? its a powercolor

CP Tech. is PowerColor I believe, so that should be perfectly fine.

It used to be i the d3d or i the opengl tabs but they have disappeared:confused:

There's not a lot of changes for the full version, except for those who play the game on a Radeon 8500-9200. These people (including myself) suffered crashes and graphics errors with the old drivers. In particular, running or loading the Rebellion and Steam levels caused the system to freeze and crash unless you turn off some graphic features. Worse, loading the Cooler level causes it to crash regardless of the settings. With the Cat 4.4's, the crashes are now gone, but I haven't had a chance to turn those graphics settings back on. I guess ATI quickly got on the ball to fix this annoying defect. :D

BTW, Far Cry rocks! :)

Edit: No problems with the graphics settings on. Game looks 100x better. A bit slow, but that's no biggie!

Under the 3d tab, they lumped d3d and opengl in there.

Hope that helps you out a bit. :)

Well, as a whole, I'd say there were slightly more gains for myself in then numbers then there were loses. However, the gains were far more important then the losses. The big improvements I saw were in AA/AF performance and DX9 shader speed.....good stuff ATI.

The things that stayed consistent throughout the testing were the cpu clock of 3.25GHz, the 9800XT at stock clock, and the high performance settings for Direct3D and OpenGL.

Here are the numbers:

Catalyst 3.9

- 3DMark2001: 19,994
- 3DMark2001 /w 4xAA 8xAF: 13,222
- 3DMark03: 6,687

- Quake III Arena @ 1024x768: 342.3fps
- Quake III Arena @ 1024x768 /w 4xAA 8xAF: 255.5fps

- 3DMark2001 PS: 280.1fps
- 3DMark2001 ADV PS: 260.9fps
- 3DMark03 PS: 52.7fps
- 3DMark03 VS: 17.9fps
- Shadermark v2.0:

----- shader 2: 252 fps
----- shader 3: 174 fps
----- shader 4: 178 fps
----- shader 5: 142 fps
----- shader 6: 185 fps

- Unreal Tournament 2003 @ 1024x768 /w 4xAA 8xAF: Flyby = 178.9fps, Botmatch = 79.7fps

- 3DMark2001 ADV PS: 235.1fps

- Shadermark v2.0:

----- shader 2: 306 fps
----- shader 3: 231 fps
----- shader 4: 219 fps
----- shader 5: 198 fps
----- shader 6: 225 fps
----- shader 7: 219 fps
----- shader 8: 169 fps
----- shader 9: 154 fps
----- shader 10: 357 fps
----- shader 11: 286 fps
----- shader 12: 198 fps
----- shader 13: 154 fps
----- shader 14: 104 fps
----- shader 15: 158 fps
----- shader 16: 104 fps
----- shader 17: 16 fps
----- shader 18: 154 fps
----- shader 19: 31 fps
----- shader 20: 70 fps
----- shader 21: 77 fps
----- shader 22: 46 fps
----- shader 23: 61 fps

So, aside from the outstanding PS performance gains I'm going to stick with this set mainly for the boost in AA/AF performance, which is definitely nice to see.

I'll let you look at the numbers yourself to come to your own conclusions but overall I'm quite satisfied.

Definitely. Look at shader 10!

Wowsers. Synthetic Benchmarks are a bit disappointing, though. But, they are synthetic benchmarks. :D

Thanks for all those benchmarks, cornelious0_0. :)

Yeah I know.....the thing is though that my main "show off" benchmarks are 3DMark2001 and Aqumark3.....and they're the ones that took nose dives. I really do appreciate what ATI is doing with these drivers but those (insane) shader boosts aren't something I'm even gonna start to take real advantage of 'till I've got my next gen card anyways. I'd much rather have my other two scores back up there as opposed to having another 60 points in 3DMark03. After all, 7,320 isn't a bad score at all. ;)

I think I'm switching back for now. Our LAN coming up uses Aquamark3 as the main test and I want every little bit of a boost I can get for now. The Unreal2k3 flyby boost with AA was also nice but I honestly can't remember the last time I played that game with AA.....I have become somewhat of an fps whore. ;)

I'm still glad I ran the tests though, or else I would have never known. I'm still proud of ATI for what they're doing with these things but it looks like another month of 3.9 for me.

EDIT: Bah, I keep going back and forth about this in my head.....I'm really not sure. Maybe I'll give the 4.4's a few days to grow on me. ;) It IS kind of hard to turn down those Shadermark numbers you're right. ;) :p

Definitely. Look at shader 10!

Heh, yeah a 98fps boost isn't bad I guess. ;)

I think I'll go do some gaming to actually try them out.

Thats the problem I don't have that tab everyone is talking about. It poofed on me when I installed 4.3

Have you checked under the Direct3D & OpenGL tabs individually? Otherwise, I have no clue. Really weird bug.

Does anyone here that uses an ASUS 9600XT have the same thing as me? that it shows up as a RADEON 9600 SERIES?
