Official Catalyst 4.4 Thread

Looking at those control panels, I realized I must have an older version. So I did the whole uninstall and ran driver cleaner and reinstalled 4.4. I now have the 3d tab. I use to be able to just install the latest drivers over what I had but I guess that has finally caught up to me :)

Cornelius (sp? its late)

Appreciate the time you put into those tests man.

Very much,

Stupid question but.....are people just using Fraps to bench in Far Cry or is there something built in??? I'm not gonna go back to the 3.9's now to get a "before" score but I'll still do the bench on the 4.4's if you let me know how.

3dMark03 5632 up 200
3dMark01SE about the same
Aquamark2 38196.

I like these. Now for Splinter Cell.

not to jack this thread.. but since we are on the subject of seeing improvements in far cry the game.. here is what is to be done..

make a shortcut of farcry.exe and after the inverted commas in the command line of the shortcut put -devmode.

once in game you can bring down the console by using the ~ key

and enter the command for god mode using this command list.. too lazy to search..

aw crap the site that had the scripts is borked.. I was abt to paste the site info..

Hrmm, I seem to be experiencing some problems with this set of Cats.... All video is now black and I get massive system lag through the start menu, I'm gonna reinstall AGAIN and see if that'll fix it..

Bah, I think I'll just do it the hard way and run head on into some guys and get my ass wasted. That'll be a much better demo. ;)

omg these drivers are so bad. they were absolutely pathetic on my comp. In pro evolution soccer 3 the textures were all strange and it was lagging like hell. I couldnt oc it anymore as well. Probably the worst drivers i have ever used in my life. I switched back to 4.3 and everything is normal now.

Yeah I know.....the thing is though that my main "show off" benchmarks are 3DMark2001 and Aqumark3.....and they're the ones that took nose dives. I really do appreciate what ATI is doing with these drivers but those (insane) shader boosts aren't something I'm even gonna start to take real advantage of 'till I've got my next gen card anyways. I'd much rather have my other two scores back up there as opposed to having another 60 points in 3DMark03. After all, 7,320 isn't a bad score at all. ;)

I think I'm switching back for now. Our LAN coming up uses Aquamark3 as the main test and I want every little bit of a boost I can get for now. The Unreal2k3 flyby boost with AA was also nice but I honestly can't remember the last time I played that game with AA.....I have become somewhat of an fps whore. ;)

I'm still glad I ran the tests though, or else I would have never known. I'm still proud of ATI for what they're doing with these things but it looks like another month of 3.9 for me.

EDIT: Bah, I keep going back and forth about this in my head.....I'm really not sure. Maybe I'll give the 4.4's a few days to grow on me. ;) It IS kind of hard to turn down those Shadermark numbers you're right. ;) :p

Heh, yeah a 98fps boost isn't bad I guess. ;)

I think I'll go do some gaming to actually try them out.

Ya , I feel your pain. I'm going to wait till Omega puts out the version of these , I'm not to worried about my benchmarks loosing points because ShaderMark took a huge jump. I think I'm going to install the 4.4 Omegas and see how FarCry runs , cause well FarCry is shader heaven :). I just feel like a klutz sitting here with my old ass 3.7's when 4.4's are out. I'm just sick of everytime that I turn 3dmark off my screen flashes black and then 3dmark is closed and everything is normal... Just annoying lol /rant

It'll be interesting to see the Omega 4.4's come out indeed but I'm not sure about performance. Based on my track record with the Omegas.....my scores typically go down a touch, but you never know. Maybe there's something in the drivers that will be "addressed" with the Omegas and my 3DMark2001/AM3 scores will be back to normal. There's still a chance so I guess I'll keep these things 'till then.

Appreciate the time you put into those tests man.

NP, It's just something that I was going to do out of my own free will anyways because I use the tests for my own personal reference from time to time. I just thought that it'd make sense to share what I saw though, considering I did spend a little bit of time on it.

I'm still having a hard time getting over the shader speed boosts with these things.....simply amazing.

Not to be rude but if you're cranking up all the details your system is going to be playing a part in the performance. I've played the game and seen the visuals and it's not slouch. Using your 3DMark score of 11,180 as a reference.....it very well might be your system holding you back. Your 3DMark03 scores are around where they should be for a regular overclocked 96XT but it looks like the rest of your rig is dragging you down.

I dunno, I'd double check with some reviews if I was you to see what they're getting with a canterwood/springdale setup and then knock it down a bit.....just to see what you should be aiming for.

Sounds like some of the stupid shit I was dealing with back when I had my fastwrite setting backwards. Try changing it from on to off, or vise versa.

Funny, I didn't see any drop in performance in straight gaming performance.....it was just in the synthetics that my vanilla IQ scores dropped.

Ah well, I'm back on my good ol' 3.9's again afterall.....I just can't sit here and watch my precious 3DMark and Aqumark scores slip away. ;)

For me they were by far. The 4.4's brought up my 3DMark03 score by a bit but everythign else dropped. I LITTLE higher overclock on my card got me back to where I was with the 4.4's..........and I got back to my old levels in AM3 and 3DMark2001.

See sig.

Ya , I saw no problem in performance gaming wise. Though like you I'm a benchmark slut.

well if the 4.4's stabilize it more, allowing for higher OC... I'd say the gains far outweigh the negatives.

Hey, I just bought my first ATI card, the 9800 128 pro. Someone that knows what they are doing, mind posting some screen shots of all their settings?

Thanks

Bah, I fit that description, expect check my sig.....my comp is down for another 10 days while I wait for my 2.8C m0 to arrive. My parents use this comp to much for me to swap the card in just to take some screenies though so I hope someone else's willing to give you a hand.

Nope, no more of an OC, I actually haven't seen that come about from a driver release in a little while. Ahh, if only. ;)

I prefer the term benchmark whore, but you were close. :p

Went to install the 4.4 Cat's and got these errors:

0x80040702
Description: Failed to load dll: ISLAYER

and

Unable to load ATICIM.dll

Anyone know what these mean? I reformatted about 2 weeks ago and everything went great...so I am pretty sure my OS is ok.

I tried installing right over the old ones which 99% of the time has worked for me. Then I tried the Catalyst Uninstaller and tried it and got the same thing. Then I tried to reinstall the 4.3 Cat's again and got the same error except one little change 0x80040707 (at the end 7 instead of 2).

Had to use system restore to get my 4.3 Cat's back again

What gives?????

These drivers suck, I had to go back to my 4.2 CAT in order to run farcry properly. Bascially when I went to anything with water my computer would get maybe 3 frames a minute and I could barely exit the game! But this only happened when I went near water, and as you know farcry is full of water!

Give this a look and let me know if it helps you out at all.....that IS why I posted it you know. It was this comment that gave it away "I tried installing right over the old ones which 99% of the time has worked for me." and I just thought that you should take a look. ;)

Funny, my Farcry was fine.....and you're the first person who I've heard bring up this "water issue" about the game. Anyone else finding this???

EDIT: Just to get technical here.....but 3 frames per minute would be about 0.05fps.....and I highly doubt it's going THAT slow. ;)

Its more of a lock up, but the screen changes every so often, I can escape into menu but it is still very slow where i can bascially do nothing, I guess when your in the menu the game is still rendering in the background. I hit ctrl-alt-delete to get back into desktop then hard close farcry. But its only a frame every 5 seconds or so, its the only thing telling me that farcry didn't lock up but the water is causing problems.

DId other people have water problems with other cat drivers in farcry? ONly on certain settings do I have problems.

You know....why do folks always have to reply with the "How to Properly...scenario"

I have done it this way several times in the past when ATI's drivers were buggy...Never had this issue with nvidia's drivers and always installed right over with no glitches or hiccups whatsoever....

Up until recently I have always done it the "proper" way you are describing...however ATI has definitely gotten their poop in a group when it comes to their drivers and they are much more user friendly...in fact everything since the 3.9 Cat's I have installed right over the old with no problems whatsoever and couldn't have been happier with the ease of use.

But then again maybe ATI is dropping the ball again...who knows.

However, whether sarcasm was intended or not I don't know...what I do know is that my question was not answered and no one ever told me what those errors meant or what is the root cause of it. If someone could just give me a heads up of what those errors mean before firing the age old "This is the proper way of installing drivers" comment back.

Thx,

Da Goat:rolleyes:

Take it easy, it was nothing personal.....it's comments like that that make me reluctant to try and help people sometimes. It seems that you're just unable to see the fact that I was just trying to help you. I have no idea of your "history" or what you've been told, so sue me for trying to help.....soooorry.

Honestly though, nobodies has answered your question probly 'cus nobody knows. As I said, I've never seen or heard of that before.....so there's a good chance others haven't either.

No hard feelings I hope, but I hope you do find a solution.
