***Official Catalyst 4.3 Thread*****

Installed it. No issues for me. Never did have issues before anyways. I hope Omega releases their version soon.

I benched with Aquamark and I got a lower score than before. I had Omega 4.2 prior to this update. Lost about 200 points. No biggy. I don't really care about the bench numbers anyways. As long as the games run fine on my computer, I'm happy. And all my games run fine.

Yes, it is.

That list is ONLY non-working games.

Note that 'non-working' can be the menus not working but the game itself 'fine' (as in Tribes 2 - but what good is the game working if you can't navigate the menus to get AT it?), or the in-game 3d not working at all.

you must run tribes 2 in 16bit color and whola runs fine bud... just change to 16bit color in display panel.

Updated all three systems in sig without a hiccup, games feel smoother, especially ut2k4.

heh, i thought that was the reason i didnt use 4.2... musta been 4.1 i was thinkin of. oh boy ;)

They said there is a performance boost in Mother Nature on 3dmark03, but after a clean install of XP and running only that and 3dmark01. I've found that I still get the same overall score in 3dmark (5123). Although I did notice in some parts of the MN test, fps was a bit higher then with the 4.2's. Not really much to make a difference in overall score though.

I'm playing at 1280x, with 16x AF.

Awesome FPS, especially with my system.

How can i change the from hebrew to english...

in the menu...

and how to change back to the old look catalyst like 3.10

Don't think you can, I personally like it MORE like this.

I'm also more then happy if all my games run fine but seeing as the ALL run fine with my 3.9's.....I have no reason to "upgrade" yet, because the 3.9's give me my highest bench scores.....and I'm a benchmark junkie. You should all know that by now. ;) :p

I don't mean this as a personal slam against anyone in here but..........I just dont' know how ANYONE can think that Halo looks good, it's nothing special to look at IMO. I personally REALLY like the look of Unreal 2 (and many other games out there) more then Halo.....there's just something about it that ruins it for me.

When i saw the E3 video for Halo 2 on XBOX my jaw dropped....but this much delayed "port" has simply taken to long to become a reality.

Again, not to put anyone down who likes the game.....but I just don't get it.

COD, UT2K3, Deus Ex IW and POP SOT all playing better with new drivers on my system.

You can do that with some regediting. I forget how.. and if I wasnt so lazy Id search for you. I know Ive read it a few times on rage3d, or perhaps google can help you.

Yeah yeah, I know. :p

COD, UT2K3, Deus Ex IW and POP SOT all playing better with new drivers on my system.

Do you have any before and after FPS numbers at all? I'm currently back into Deus Ex 2 and I wanna know if there's anything else I can do to help the performance of this beast. :)

Hmm, maybe I'll run a few benchmarks and actually INSTALL them for myself. And then let YOU guys know how things went. ;)

I have a question: why does ATI come out with new drivers about once a month, but nvidia hasn't come out with new drivers in 4 months? do they sit around with their thumbs up their ass?

Who knows. You could come at that question two different ways. I just like knowing that ATI is doing something for ME with their time and that they're constantly working on fixing and improving their hardware and software.

Kudos ATI.....keep it up.

I've used nVidia Card and ATI card, the nvidia software is much faster and bug free than ati drivers, but the hardware is much better ATI, I hope ati improves more their software, I've gone back to catalyst 3.6 since all te new ones work slow with counter-strike and I have a celeron 900 so it does really matter.

It's pretty funny how the two companies complement themselves so well in what they do. If only they would merge togethor, into NvidiATI. :D

Of course then there would be no market competition and we'd all be complaining then too so maybe it's best to leave things the way they are. :)

i'm having a strange problem with call of duty. it's like the 4.3's are TOO fast. and my monitor can't keep up. like straight lines become super jagged and almost broken up when i'm moving in the game.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something but is it something beyond the fact that vsync got disabled in the install???

probably so. how might i correct this? i set my monitor on 85 hz in an attempt to correct it to no avail. i went back to the 4.2's just because it didn't do it with those.

you can also look at that from a different angle and say, "why does ati need to come out with new drivers every month and nvidia only needs to do it every 4 months? does ati have really bad programmers?"
im not trying to support nvidia or ati, im just giving another point of view

Well you can also think of it this way. There are always new 3D games coming out and sometimes the new games do not work with the newest drivers for some reason or another, and its better if ATI released a driver every month or so, so that their latest drivers work with the newest games, and there would be less complaints.

What are you talking about??? Vsync works fine on my 9800XT with the 4.3's and it's still in the menu as it always has been.

Dude, listen to yourself.....you're being even more one sided and blunt then he is.

The fact is, that no matter how much I love my 9800XT.....I still have the decency to give Nvidia credit where it's due. There are still a number of cases where the 5950 and 9800XT are neck and neck.....and a few where the 5950 is far superior, so don't be so sure of yourself.

Just because a card is more popular means nothing. If I lived in a town of 100 people and there was only one computer shop that ONLY stocked Nvidia cards would that suddenly make the GeForce the better card? Just because it's more widely used? I think not.

I try to be as unbiased as possible when talking about this stuff and I really hope that you re-think what you just said.....for you're labeling yourself as a very close-minded person with a statement like that.

Nothing personal, just thought I'd say SOMETHING.

Perhaps I was a bit harsh in my statement. I'm just tired of seeing the same user (Spacefarts) always complaining about his purchase (ie: ATI).........I was not intending to slam nvidia. Heck I have owned nvidia cards in the past (ie: TNT, TNT2, Geforce3).

But fact is the Radeon 9800XT and the Radeon 9000 series for that matter are currently the best cards out right now..... I am sure of myself because I have the majority of review sites (hardocp included) which have consistantly put the 9800XT ahead of the best nvidia's got. I could provide hundreds of review examples, but heres just one example from a current article on hardocp:

http://hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTgw

and I quote: "So what can we conclude from all of this? If you are in the market for the absolute best enthusiast card right now to play games on the 9800XT is your best bet."

I wasn't saying that nvidia sucked (although spartfarts was ranting about ATI). You'll find MANY more articles backing this one up......I anxiously await nvidia next gen cards and if they are better I'll buy one....but for now ATI is king.

Kared

I'm not sure I understand your logic about a "small town"......what was the point there??

For pure hardware performance the ATI 9800XT card is the king, my point however was, why get a card that says you can run high levels of AA and get fast fps in your games when only 1/2 the games out there work with ATI drivers?
Every new release of the ATI drivers out of pure stupidity, I download them thinking just maybe they fixed the Madden 2004 bug, but I always go back to the 3.7's, and by going back to the 3.7 drivers COD runs slower, with the 4.1-4.3's the game locks up on me on and off.

I am considering Nvidia's newest release about to come out soon just because of my past experiences with Nvidia, I had a GF2 Ultra card back in the day and no games had any issues with it that I played, I got a GF3 TI500 when they came out as well, not one single issue what so ever, then I up and decide because of all the great reviews that I would get the Radeon 9700 pro card, didn't have a single issue till the release of the 3.8-4.3 drivers, that is my reason for my frustration, I can remember reading reviews on the Radeon 8500 card and hearing all the driver horror stories, to me it just looks like ATI has reverted back to there old ways.

Am I wrong?

Yes and no.

Probly not the thing to bring up anyways.....there's just gonna be dozens of people on each side bickering back and forth over it.....trying to prove something.

Let's not go there shall we? ;) :D

the way i see it, its a lot easier to fix software issues than hardware issues

and, if Nvidia and ATI would merge their prices would skyrocket due to no competition

and, what CoD issues do you have? i dont have any.

also, saying that half of the games that come out have issues is wrong, just because the ones you play have issues doesnt mean that all of them do

and, maybe you shouldve dont more research before you purchased your card.

The COD problem I have is the occasional lockup, it was at its worst for me in the 3.10 drivers, the 4.1's were the best IMO for COD, on my machine anyway, I didn't get any lockups with the 4.1 drivers, however some of my other games were lacking in performance with the 4.1's so I went back to the 3.7 drivers yet again, only because everything works on my machine with those drivers, but heh COD is slower with that driver set.

As far as doing research, I dont think most did as much research as I did when I was shopping for a new video card, I read all the reviews on the 9700pro when it came out and I waited 6 months after the release, I figured the longer I waited the more horor stories I'd here, to my surprise even after 6 months after the 9700 pro was released, there were the same amount of bugs in the 9700pro as there was with the GF4 TI4600, so I figured it was safe, I got the card, everything was great, no issues, then the release of the 3.10 drivers, one month after I got COD the 3.10 drivers were released, and the game locked up on me ever 4min to the point I had to reset my box, I went back to the 3.8 drivers and still had lockups, went down to the 3.7's and had no issues what so ever outside of the speed, I was getting 11fps less in COD with the 3.7's than I did with the 3.10's, the release of the 4.1's I thought, HEY! maybe they fixed the problem, sure enough COD ran fine, then I got in the mood to play some madden 2004 and to my surprise, AA wasn't working! so again I had to go back to the 3.7 drivers, the 4.2's came out, same thing, COD ran fine, Madden 2004 still had the AA bug, then to my surprise, I noticed that UT1 had a gamma problem, where all of a sudden I was unable to adjust the brightness of the game, I opened the game and it was to dark to play, I have filled out several bug reports on this to ATI but they have yet to fix the problem, if your not experancing a problem with UT1, run the game in S3TC mode, not OGL or D3D and you will see what I am talking about.

So there you have it, 3 of my fav. games, 3 big problems that wouldn't exist if I had an Nvidia card..

If only Nvidia would make there GPU's run with the same timings that the ATI GPU's do, maybe then ATI would be forced to fire some people in there driver team and get there act together.

how we get one set "3.7's" to work with everything, then everything after introduces one more bug, and fixes a few.

What we need is Nvidia drivers for the ATI video cards LOL Maybe then I'd be happy.

Saying ATi cards work with 1/2 of the games out there is just ignorant.

Ah,Ha!

Looks like a good reason for me to stick with the 3.9s! But I haven't installed any games on my new system yet....soon...soon.
