Cat's installed fine for me when I had a 9600XT in my daughters PC just fine. Perhaps it time to look somewhere else for the problem.

These drivers installed just fine for me.. as always.

oh I know the omegas are good. ive only had problems with the ATi drivers for the past two installs, this one (TO FIX A DISPLAY PROBLEM NO LESS) and the one before, same exact thing. i might have to update the nforce2 drivers but i cant do that because the install package runs, puts its shit in the directory, then CLOSES itself. either its getting an error and doesnt feel like telling or windows is closing it or something, but the process completly dissappears after the splash screen comes up

and I have a lan next weekend too...argh

wasnt this version supposed to contain a fix for wolf enemy territory?... i didn't see it on the list posted on the main page

What exactly is surroundview? I see it says its a new feature in this version, but from its explanation, it appears to be simply allowing you to use multiple ATI cards for multiple monitors. I thought you could do that anyway?

Anybody know if there are any performance upgrades to come along with this release? Just curious...

Edit: Just read the release notes and answered my own question. Nevermind. :)

if memory serves correctly, if you've got a board with the 9100IGP, and you use an AGP radeon, it'll allow you to use all three outputs simultaneously.

generally speaking, if you have onboard video, it sits on the agp bus, and is disabled as soon as you plug in an agp card. the agp 3.0 spec allows for two agp cards, so i'd assume this just enables both agp ports (though one is onboard, it still counts as agp) simultaneously.

Yes that is correct, your memory serves you well. :)

Is it just me, or did this version install really quickly? I'm talking "grease through a goose" type speeds.

Or maybe it has something with the 62MHz I added to my FSB last week...

Yeah, it did install awfully quickly... About twice as fast as normal.

Maybe somone didn't go crazy with the compression/CRC checking.

No differences seen here yet (old Radeon 8500) UT2004 runs the same. I tried the DOS thing, and it does look more like the classical Fullscreen DOS. They brought back the rotation screen settings, not that I'd ever use it, but its useful for small percentage of TabletPC users out there.

Ok, i just checked FarCry and PoP The Sands of Time.

The weird rock texure problem with AF enabled from the control panel is still present in FarCry.

The texture corruption when AA is enabled from the control panel is also still present in FarCry.

The water glow and blur bug is present with AA enable in PoP the sands of time still.

Well, Far Cry is a fairly recently-released game. So, I'm sure FSAA on it will get the attention it deserves, instead of just being ignored. Even if it wasn't done in this driver.

Seriously, what is the point of FSAA that's faster and looks better than the competition....when it only WORKS in half the games you play?

AMEN BRO!!

CS still looks like its 16bit and still see Jaggie lines, even with the force32bit extension added in the short cut, the game still looks like 640x480 with no AA

UT still has a gamma problem

Madden 2004 still doesnt render AA

COD is now slower with this driver set

BF1942 still has texture problems

Looks Like I am going to buy the new Nvidia card when it comes out... ATI has gone down hill since the release of the CAT 4.1's, many people from what I have seen on other forums feel the same way I do. ATI blowes.

You're said that for a long time now. Go ahead and do it, nobody cares.

Both companies have driver bugs.

Same--although my XT is my first ATI card.

Even though I've only gone through the 9600Pro, 9800Pro, and my 9800XT so far.....I can whole heartedly agree here.....never a single issue for me.

Can anyone post some before and after 3dmark/Aquamark scores for me??? Seeing as I have no bugs to be ironed out, I don't bother installing new drivers unless they're a tad faster. I'm still sitting plenty happy with my 3.9's, which have proven to be the speediest. I know it sounds lame but if I score higher and bench even slightly faster (overall).....I'll install 'em.

Brent, you are seeing the effects of Nvidias TWIMTBP program. The AA issues in those programs are due to the way the games were made and without testing Ati's AA on the game properly before shipping it. Yes Ati can create game specific work arounds but shouldnt have to.

Hopefully this will become less common as dev's move to more Ati cards.

Spacefarts: Whatever dude, if you love nvidia so much then stop bitching and just buy your vcard.....just don't come crying back when you realize what a big mistake you made......sheesh

I guess the fact that ATI is pummeling nvidia right now and is the choice with the vast majority of gamers right now means nothing eh?

Dude, listen to yourself.....you're being even more one sided and blunt then he is.

The fact is, that no matter how much I love my 9800XT.....I still have the decency to give Nvidia credit where it's due. There are still a number of cases where the 5950 and 9800XT are neck and neck.....and a few where the 5950 is far superior, so don't be so sure of yourself.

Just because a card is more popular means nothing. If I lived in a town of 100 people and there was only one computer shop that ONLY stocked Nvidia cards would that suddenly make the GeForce the better card? Just because it's more widely used? I think not.

I try to be as unbiased as possible when talking about this stuff and I really hope that you re-think what you just said.....for you're labeling yourself as a very close-minded person with a statement like that.

Nothing personal, just thought I'd say SOMETHING.

just installed them right over the 4.2's like i always do. worked perfectly. no issues thus far...

Quite so.

As an example, the thread on Rage3d I linked (the 'official' anti-aliasing bug thread).

ATI has never had very good support for FSAA in older games, and I seriously doubt they ever will.

*I* happen to play a lot of older games. As a result, I sold my 9800np and saved myself a little cash getting a 5900XT - which works great in every game I throw at it.

Hence my comment RE: Far Cry. Fine, so SOME of you say you have no problems whatsoever with ATI drivers. Great, that means you don't play any of those several dozen games on that list, or are lying.

It DOES NOT mean that ATI's drivers suck in every game in every way. I don't understand why some people have to have 'all or nothing'. Really - nVidia IS better than ATI in a lot of areas. ATI has raw speed for the time being - but that's not everything.

I just got tired of ATI dismissing older game's compatibility problems and switched over to a different company with much fewer issues (for my needs).

Great Googly Moogly that list is freaking huge. I had no idea this was such a problem. And I though ATI's drivers were improving.

If you read the post, you would see that a lot of thos dont work on nVidia cards either. Most of the games are very old.
