Interested in seeing benchmark differences and thoughts... Any change in crysis, COD4, vantage, 3dmark06, or Stalker Clear Sky?

Will be trying these on my 4850 CF tonight and comparing to my existing numbers.

Not holding my breath that these will fix display flickering in Oblivion, UT, etc. It would be nice if it fixed the annoying code 39 errors I get every time I enable/disable crossfire though :rolleyes:

I hope these fixes issues alot of users with P5Q and Vista 64 are experiencing. I will be installing these tonight.

I get a blank black screen that causes entire system to hang on installation ending. Are there more?
 
So far so good, playing around with Crysis now. Will be installing Crysis Warhead in a bit.
 
i still have gpu #3 booting and sticking at 750 mhz until you get into a 3d app and then quit


i even left multiple messages on the forums and driver feed back since the date 8.8 came out.... i think these retards just fix the easy meaningless crap to make it look like they did something.

otherwise it seems fine, ill try some games later, just installed these without a problem though.
 
Well I didn't get a Code 39 error on one or both adapters like I had been forever with the 8.8's, so I guess that's an improvement. Flicker is still there in all the same places, and performance in Crysis and WiC seems unchanged. Haven't tried anything else yet.
 
Look for modded drivers? Is anyone working on an OBVIOUS need here?

Well I took out my 2nd card as I am selling it off since I don't really utilize it with a 1080p lcd monitor and my frames did improve a tad in crysis. With 4xAA on at 1920x1080 I was averaging 35 to 40fps.

I will pick it up since the storylines are good. But yeah I went your route as well and dumped the 2nd 4870x2 since its utterly useless on a 1920x1080 rez lcd. Though I do love having 2 video cards in my machine. Then again if I went with 2x4870 1gb I would be at the same performance??

yeah from what reviews have spit out, 2 4870's is pretty on par w/ a single x2...but I figure once better drivers come out (ahem ATi!) we may see better performance out of CFx w/ 2 x2's, and by that time I'm sure x2 prices would have come down a little bit :D <crosses fingers>
 
I installed the 8.9s this evening.
The driver package is the same one as the beta 8.53 that was floating around about a week ago.

The fans still dont work right to regulate temperatures. I had to go in and hack the profile again. I don't get this......the card has been out since 12 August and ATI still hasn't fixed the fan speed......WTF?

I'm playing ClearSky right now. I really didn't see any vast improvement over the 8.54 beta I have been using, but it isn't worse either.

I installed RivaTuner 2.11 this evening also.
I played around with the graphs, and it looks like Crossfire is working pretty well in my X2s.

In ClearSky all 4 cores ramp up to 750 MHz and the GPU usage is pretty high as well.....from 100 down to 75% depending on the core.
 
still didn't fix my issue of one card running 500/750 and the other @ normal with 160/500 @ idle

 
No difference in Crysis WARHEAD from betas, but I wasn't expecting much. I still have COD4 to try out.
These were exact 2 different locations Fraps benchmarked with 8.9 beta vs 8.9 official.

I still get this lame annoying bug when I install the Catalyst drivers. It installs fine but the part where it flickers it stays black screen and the signal doesn't reset on my display. I have to reset my system because and can't even cntr + alt + delete to reboot.
 
6% performance increase in crysis. Not bad, but was really hoping for more :D Ill play w/ 3dmark06 in a sec.

Ok I installed these last night. My 3DMark06 Score went up 50 points YAY! :rolleyes:
3DMark06 also slightly stuttered a few times too hmmm...
Anyways CCC still randomly crashed twice on startup for no reason. Unfortunately ATI is aware of this as one of the "unresolved" issues but still hasn't fixed it. :(
I played through Crysis and got like a 3-5fps increase YAY again! :rolleyes:
Medal of Honor Airborne fps didnt change much.
Didnt get a chance to try it with any of my other games (UT3, Warhammer 40K series, BF2) but I will friday night and then report back here.
Anyone else experienced the random CCC crash upon startup?
 
I have had random crashes with CCC at startup on 8.8 and 8.9. Nothing that's detrimental though.

How do you see that all 4 cores are working? I messed around in the setup and only see one graph that goes to 100%
 
I was already using the 8.53 betas so these drivers are pretty much the same..slightly higher build number but no major differences. Performance is about the same. No major issues. A typical, boring ATI driver release :)
 
Your Crysis numbers are almost double mine without AA :(

Only thing that's really different is hdd and CPU (mine's a Duo @ 3.4) .. oh, and my X2 is stock.
 
i dont get why they claim 8.9 added quadfire overdrive, it was there in 8.8 and 8.7 and it worked...
 
I will be installing these tonight and posting my thoughts tonight.. any idea if these give better frame rates than the 8.6's
 
Installed these last night and it got rid of the random hiccups i was getting in World of Warcraft. CCC still crashes everytime i reboot though. Not that i use it.
 
I'm thinking about trying these but I'm really tired of messing with the 4870 X2.

Yeah, pretty much how I feel about my 4850 CF. Any observable performance benefit over my single 280 just isn't worth the bugs and hassle.

Based on my experience I would say gamma flicker and Code 39 errors, but that's just me :p

I didn't know those problems were specific to P5Q owners anyway. I doubt they are.

I guess I'll just take the card back, I'm sick of it...If only I knew how to test if it is actually the card which is defekt, I really hope it is.

Yep, exactly...been messing with it the last two weeks. I don't know weather I have driver problems or if it's actually the card which is not working. I have started another topic, where peeps are claiming I have very low fps in games for a rig like mine.

I have 2 260s coming in from stepup on monday and still have my 680i sitting around, been trying to decide if i should keep the 4870 crossfire setup or go back to the 680i and SLI. Any ideas? I plan on going to a 30" monitor soon, so just wondering.
