The other night I OC'd my cpu by about 300-400MHz on stock voltage(mb won't let me adjust cpu voltage, but it will adjust other voltages such as NB, memory, and PCI-E). I upped memory and NB by the smallest value possible(.005V for NB iirc and something similar for NB).

I ran Prime95 overnight to test the OC and went to bed. About 4hrs or so later the computer shut off. When I woke up it wouldn't power on for a few mins. I unplugged the pwr cord, flipped the switch, changed walls sockets, and it finally turned on. After a few minutes I hear a fizzling sound(not like a capacitor popping though). Computer is running fine now but I don't think I'll be doing much overclocking anytime soon.

From these pics it looks like I fried an inductor. The weird thing is the voltages in AMD Overdrive have a red background now(don't remember that). On another note, there were also multiple power outages last weekend due to rain. Not sure if that might've had an effect on it.

What are your guy's opinions on this, keep using it til it dies or replace the inductor just to be safe? I found the product info so I could probably order one online to replace it.

Power outages and brown outs are like tossing a bomb in your pc and hoping it doesn't blow up =/
 
Yeah, great :/ It was really strange. After a night of thunderstorms everything was pretty calm and clear. And then for the next 12 hrs of so the power would randomly go off, even though it was fine outside.
 
Bad transformer- call the power company about it if they didn't already fix it.

Edit: so, are you going to try to replace that one component or are you going to toss the motherboard and buy a new one?
 
I think I'm going to run it until it dies. I only paid about $35 for it and if the mobo dies I can gift to cpu away and upgrade my comp.
 
Update on the system: I took out the old card and kept the new one in. It still crashed. So it looks like it's not the video card but the mobo or cpu. Since I haven't oc'd the cpu to ridiculous levels and I have an aftermarket cooler, I'm thinking it's the mobo.

With the cpu at stock settings and overclocked video cards in crossfire everything's been stable. Been playing some demanding games just fine.
