does anybody know the code to enable the FPS meter?

I use the FRAPs program...google it and the download is free...allows you to see the fps in any game...

Hmmm....yummy.

I`m gonna try it with my:

A7v + 2600 mobile Barton 9600Pro
and 512 SDRam PC133

(Stop laughing!!)

Although I should be getting an 9800pro soon.

Yes my Motherboard is 6 years old!!

Fantastic stuff, your system will come back in fashion soon. Like cat and dog years 6 years in computer time is around 70 years real time.

Yep that should work with something like 800x600...This game really sucks up system resources esp. graphics...shesh...I ran half-life2 at 1920x1200 with everything maxed out and it never dipped below 60s..with this game, with hdr, it hits low 20s...

I have the same video card as you, what rez were you runnning at?

800x600 and 1024x768 - No major differences.

Like an idiot I installed new Forceware drivers last night but that still bumped things up to ~23fps outside or so. Now I get to redo the drivers whenever nVidia drops the new ones.

Modified Dell Dimension 2350
K8 Triton - K8VT800M - BMW 64
AMD Athlon 64 - 3200+ @ 2.15
2GB Corsair XMS PC 3200 2.5-3-2-5
Creative Audigy 2 ZS
ATI X850XT 256MB AGP

I have been playing the game at High Quality. I have turned shaows , bloom off , increased grass distance to full. I am playing at 1600X1200 2XAF and getting roughly anywheres between 20-50 FPS. I am very pleased with how my computer is handling this game.

I'm running 1680x1050 "Ultra High" with vsync on, 4xAA on, ?xAF (can't remember), Bloom on, HDR off. It runs really smooth outside, I'm going to fiddle with the draw distance some, because I can see it adding detail to the world just inside the viewable horizon, and I want to push that to just outside the horizon so I don't see it.

sounds gd for me... :) good performance with the x850xt pe

I played indoors and outdoors both for about 6 hours last night with all in game and Control Panel settings maxed (6xAA, 16xHQAF, etc.) and a resolution of 1920x1200. Every time I checked, my FRAPS was in the 50's. It may have dropped below 50 during fights, but the game was so playable even during action situations that I certainly didn't notice.

CPU: Athlon FX-60 @ 2800Mhz
MOBO: ABIT AT8 Socket 939 Radeon XPRESS 200 CrossFire

Wouldn't doubt it. :)

I have:

64 4000+ @ 2.7Ghz
7800 GTX @ 585Mhz/1.35Ghz
2Gb PC3200 RAM

From what I can work out I can expect to play this in 1600 1200 with max settings with HDR enabled and some AF, maybe 4x or 8x

Or is this wishful thinking?

My brother confirmed my copy is at home now and he's downloading the new forceware drivers from nzone which have optimisations in specifically for oblivion (heres the 32bit 2k/XP release - http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_winxp_2k_32bit_84.25.html )

Going home in 5 mins, wont get back for at least another hour :(

Also the major question is!

Do I enable HDR outside and forefit antialiasing (if i can use high res like 1600 1200 this isnt too bad)

Or keep AntiAliasing on and forefit HDR

See its tempting to have HDR on and just lose AA, but trancparency AA is going to make the outdoors look so frikken nice i'll probably cream in my pants.

Downloaded the new driver as well, but I looked thru the release notes PDF file and there are no mentions of Oblivion at all, are these really supposed to have any optimizations for the game?

Anyone know how my system

P4 3.0 capable of OCing to 3.5~ghz
1gb 3200

would run Oblivion with a 7800GS (AGP card)?

I'm looking for very high settings at 1280x1024 with no AA, maybe 2x anisotropic, and HDR enabled.

Just realized I had HDR turned on so I wasn't really getting the 6xAA. However, I must say that I honestly didn't notice a single jaggie while playing. That doesn't mean they weren't there, but he game is so engrossing that there was only 1 graphical issue I noticed the entire time I played, and it's the same thing others have mentioned...

Ground textures at MEDIUM distances can look pretty bad. Things really far away and things really close are fine, but there is a certain distance where the games LOD (level of detail) settings seem to blur out some of the textures, and it does it in large squares so the ground looks all (for lack of a better word) patch-worky. It's annoying, but only if you aren't actually busy or focusing on some other specific object on screen.

One thing I thought was cool was the cities... but not when you were in them, when you were outside. I climbed the mountains north of the city near the Priory (that you have to visit for the first real quest in the game)... I think it's called Chaoll or something.

Anyway, I climbed the mountains and no matter how high I got (and I got REALLY FREAKING HIGH) anytime I was at an angle where no trees were blocking the view of the city I could actually see the walls and individual buildings in the city. I mean I was a long freaking ways away, but everything was still there, just as it would be in real life, just a lot less detailed. Such things do a LOT to maintain your feeling of immersion in the world.

I have yet to read anywhere that they are optimized for oblivion. Is there any proof of this?

For all of us poor people (IE students) I can tell you that this WILL run the game acceptably, its not pretty though...

AMD AthlonXP 2000+
1gb PC2100 DDR
GeForce FX5900

I run it at 800x600 with all quality settings off.
Pretty sad when I can play Quake 4, HL2, TOCA 3 and many others at medium or high quality 1280x1024

Hmm...I've got a A64 3000+@2.3ghz, X850XT@560/600 and 1 gig of pc3200, what settings you guys think I can run this at??

all you guys with not so good rigs, why aren't you all buying an xbox360? It costs less than a good graphics card--a great hardware deal imho. I would be all over it if I didn't buy my x1900xtx recently.

I'm looking to upgrade soon, waiting on the $$$
Plus, I can't stand playing first person anything with a controller...

Some of us are PC gamers to the core, screw consoles, long live the mouse and keyboard.

Anyway I havent had a chance to fully test as I have to go to work, but heres a screenshot before and after the patch. Check the framerate in teh corner.

Looks like I didnt catch it perfectly, my bad, I will try tonight at a few spots.

Hey Xenosz
what resolution are you running at?
So would you say with the 84.25, it is a 20% improvement in general?

1280x1024 with all high settings (limited by ram maybe) with 2aa/16af or more or less:p

Hmm I started to get terrible frame rates outside now .. like near 10 or 15. I turned off the grass altogether and now Its a lot better.

I sure hope this is all fixed with the driver update tomorrow.

Eh, all this talk has me alittle mad and excited at the same time, I tried to get the game yesterday but the stores said it was in transit, erg it's times like this where I don't like living where everything comes a day late, oh well... no matter I will have it sometime tonight, maby in a hour or two if everything goes right.

Howzabout an outdoor shot or a shot with some NPCs?

Has anyone got any feelings one way or the other about which way to go? I've got it on HDR right now, but I think im going to try Bloom and AA when I get home tonight. I'm running on ultra at 12x10. I'm curious what the perf delta is and what loss (if any) there would be in qual.

Yeah - the new 84.25 drivers work great.. gave me a nice boost. How do you get the frame ticker?

Plays fine on my comp @ 1680x1050. Ultra High Settings(Auto) + HQ AA + AF

AMD s754 3700+
2 GIG Ram
ATI X1900XTX

Got this rig up and running about 4-5 days before this game was released!

Gotta get a FPS monitering tool. Still tuning the AA and AF to get best performance.

This game is SWEET on a 20" Widescreen Moniter!

Google FRAPS and download the free version. Install, start the program, F12, then start the game

im running this game at full settings...

or refered in the game as ultra high setting at 1280

I really want to see some framerates with 2x7900GTs. Can't wait for the benchmarks to start rolling out.

Sorry but I get so Tired of this claim. The 360 is NOT cheaper than a PC. Lets do the math...

Xbox 360 = $400
Widescreen High Def LCD TV that only goes up to 1388x768 = $3000+
~$3500.

PC with 7800gtx and a64 3800+ ~ $1200
23 in. widescreen lcd that does 1920x1200 = ~$1000
~$2250

So who gets the better picture for less money?

Yeah it's an oversimplified comparison but there ya go.

With my box (listed in sig) at 1920x1200 with HDR and no AA I am average 55fps without vsync and a terrible 30 (Dropping to 20) with vsync on. It seems as though vsync stifles performance greatly on systems, especially with those who have a monitor with a 60Hz refresh rate. The only great frame drops appear when the grass shadows are enabled and there are many characters on screen at once. Anyone know how boxes like mine stack up against the XB360? Apparently the XBox 360 gamers were chastizing me for the PC version after which I promptly told them "Have fun without the ability to patch or use the TES Construction set."
