What's the best way to get people to buy your iPad newspaper app? By blocking iPad users until the iFreeloaders cough up $6.99 a month. By the way, only iProducts are blocked, all other device can access the site for free.

The New York Post iPad application costs $1.99 to download from Apple's App Store and gives a user an introductory 30-day subscription to the News Corp.-owned newspaper. A one-month subscription costs $6.99. The ban on access to NYPost.com only applies to users of the iPad's Safari browser. Desktop or laptop computer users can access NYPost.com normally.

I plan on being totally outraged by this....as soon as I stop laughing. :D

Ipad users (and Apple kool-aid drinkers) won't care. They have money to waste needlessly. This just makes them feel a little more special because they get the acknowledgement and opportunity to pay for things others can't.

..what's that sound I hear? Sounds like the NY Post digging their own grave AND Death comin' a knockin'!!

I understand they're trying to adapt to a very fast changing market, but uhh... do they have anyone on their payroll with an IQ greater than zero? I mean hell, pay me $40k and I'll give you a better idea NY Post!

...and then I'll donate it to a worthy charity because MONEY ISN'T EVERYTHING!

MONEY ISN'T EVERYTHING!
Unless you are still running around barefoot in the Serengeti, actively hunting your every meal, money is actually everything. The only people who say that it isn't are those who want to separate you from your money and put it into their own pockets (i.e. churches and charities).

I do own a smartphone, but this is a big reason why I think tablets are such bullshit.

I would never read on something as small as a phone anyways, but mobile computing in general needs to evolve enough so it can't be bullied and harassed by this garbage anymore.

If I bought a tablet, I wouldn't be able to use Hulu at all without paying for their 10 dollars a month subscription. But on the notebook that would be sitting right next to me, I could get on no problem.

Until this is rectified, I will continue to consider tablets of all make and model to be utterly worthless. Same goes for media boxes like the Boxee Box and the like. You're severely restricted from streaming models like Hulu just because it's hooked up to a TV and is easily recognized and filtered. But if I were to set-up an HTPC, hook it up to my TV and use Windows Media Player, I would have no issues streaming something like Hulu for free.

I promise I'm not looking to take from your pocket and put into my own. :) If anything, I'd put it into someone else's who really needs it!

But you are correct for the most part, in a lot of cases the people saying that usually also follow with "So give it to us!" and gullible people, usually just trying to do good, fall for it.

Correction. They have other people's money to waste needlessly.

Not surprising that some of the simple minded are using this as an opprtunity to blast Apple products.

This has nothing to do with Apple, this is all NY Post. They made the decision to block the user agent string of Safari on iPad.

Guess what the solution is? Use a user agent faker (jailbroken pad) OR

If you don't want to jb just use SkyFire or one of the other browsers available in the App Store. They can be set to use a desktop user agent.

Sucks that people have to take extra steps, but since SkyFire enables viewing of flash video anyway, it solves two problems.

Mindless Drivel

Not really. Those people obviously like throwing money away. Just because they get an exclusive purchasing option doesn't make it drivel. I simply pointed out truth as we have come to know it given past events.

In other news, it has become very [H]ard for tech blogs to post anything interesting in tech news

Yes really.

iPhones are the same price as android phones.

Ipads are cheaper than android counterparts

Your argument has no merit and is therefore drivel.

really??

you can get android phones for $0, and android 3.x tablets for under $400.

please do keep telling yourself that your iPad2 is less expensive. the iPad2, with its ancient cell phone operating system and 400,000 different $5 apps, is a fucking pathetic turd of a tablet.

Yeah, thats why nothing can even remotely touch it. Technology wise, app wise, user installed base wise, it dominates everything else put together with a 3x multiple applied.

Did you see the article where its performance was 4-5x the xoom?

Talk about throwing money away.

The iPad has a lot of strengths and yes sells a lot more than all other tablets combined for now, I think Windows 8 could change that but that's still a year away at least. But there are tablets that do things that iPads can't, like runing any application without having to hack it.

The iPad is great but it's very much pre-packaged and while that works for bulk of tablet users it doesn't work for everyone.

Not for the rest of us. The iPhone's price is only down because they're subsidized. But for the rest of us on the planet, it's $800 minimum, and over here it's still $1,000.00 (3GS is still $700-800.00 btw)

On the other hand, you can get a Galaxy Mini for $220.00, which runs the same basic apps as its bigger brothers.

Yeah, Android tablets can run any one of the 100 applications out for honeycomb...

If you meant Windws tablets, well those arent in the same category.

Theres no way anyone can claim the iPad isn't the most capable tablet on the market right now. The functionality you can gain with the apps available is unmatched.

And it's all 1st party apps, not something some kid coded in his moms basement.

AppleLogic to the rescue! I was unaware that the latest (and cheaper) tablets were 3x slower, thanks for enlightening us with your source and applicable benchmarks. This is great news for other Apple users as they'll finally be able to browse flash sites!

After 7 plus years of enjoying this site, I am getting rather tired of all the Apple bashing. Almost every single day, the SAME DAMN THING. Sorry, but some of your readers actually enjoy cool technology and could give a rats ass what platform it is. I use a Windows PC, have an iPhone, and an iPAD. I also have a PS3 and XBOX 360. I do not favor one company or bash another because apparently it is "cool" to do. Actually, it makes you look really childish.

I can't just undertand why/what you get out of it? Pissing off a lot of your readers for the enjoyment of your other readers is a plus? How exactly?

Because the way Apple markets their product, it is the complete antithesis of being [H]ard.

Different category of not I do many of the same things with my Windows tablets that one would do with an iPad and with Windows 8 particularly on ARM the categories are fast blurring.

Again the iPad is a great device and does a lot but its a locked down pre-packaged experience by design and that simply has it's limits, if if didn't people would jailbreak them.

Here you go chief, no AppleLogic needed, just pure, cold facts:

Cheaper and newer tablets? You must mean the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Whats that run? Oh yeah, Tegra 2. Same as Xoom.

Owned.

By the way iphone 5/4s will have the A5 proc with this same dual core GPU.

I know you’re challenged cause you’ve built up your own delusion about Android devices being vastly and technologically superior, because there hasn’t been too many super informed on both sides people like me. But try to open your mind a bit instead of responding with blind fever, which is what you accuse Apple people of doing.

For the record, I'm a diehard Microsoft guy.

I recognize the superior tech in the iPhone due to its super powerful GPUs AND hardware graphics acceleration. Android devices have to throw raw CPU cycles to render graphics, and all that extra CPU power is wasted on something the iPhone does in hardware. In the meantime, the batteries on Android phones drain like running water.

So, yeah, iPhones are [H] for sure. It’s like having a sweet setup with the most powerful video card on the market vs a system with a CPU overclocked to 5ghz with integrated video.

Discreet graphics FTW

It goes both ways, I'm constantly being told by Apple and iPad folks how shitty Windows is on tablets and while they often have points many do overstate issues. One common one being how well Windows 7 works on touch screens. Yes Windows 7 is primarily a keyboard and mouse OS but apps that a designed for touch work pretty much the same and in some cases things like web browsing on good hardware can work even better with touch in Windows as the FULL web, plug-ins and all will work.

To say that ANY device is simply the best at everything has never been true in my experience and that includes the iPad. It has strengths AND weaknesses like anything made by man.

lolz.

queue more pissed off iPad user posts in 3.. 2..

I know you’re challenged cause you’ve built up your own delusion about Android devices being vastly and technologically superior...

It's not like you even try hiding the fact that you are a complete head-up-the-arse fanboi. I spoke nothing of Android in my original post that you replied to... Only that Apple specifically markets their products to be the antithesis of [H]ard. There ARE more products out there that Apple makes that doesn't compete with Android, you know.

For the record, I'm a diehard Microsoft guy.

Hah. Bullshit.

I recognize the superior tech in the iPhone due to its super powerful GPUs AND hardware graphics acceleration. Android devices have to throw raw CPU cycles to render graphics, and all that extra CPU power is wasted on something the iPhone does in hardware. Yes, that's why my phone averages out to... 68.4 hours a charge. Try again.

Regardless of what Apple says they have in their products, it is still common, off the shelf licensed tech. A4? Arm. A5? Also Arm. Both made by Samsung. Nothing unique in that shit. At all.

Superior hardware? You do realise that even the cheap shit that Virgin sells is more powerful than the first three generations of the iPhone? Superior is relative and Apple's products age faster than anyone else's because of their staggered release cycles.

Snapdragon procs are common. Have discrete GPUs. Hell, even the Optimus phone has a discrete GPU. Just because Apple's marketing materials tell you that their "magical" and "revolutionary" CPU is such doesn't make it so. The fact that you are so unaware of it all being commodity before branding makes it so painfully obvious you have no clue what you're talking about.

So, yeah, iPhones are [H] for sure. It’s like having a sweet setup with the most powerful video card on the market vs a system with a CPU overclocked to 5ghz with integrated video.

Discreet graphics FTW

That bit there is so fucking laughable that I'm just going to let it stand on its own. There's no way you're a fanboi at all. No sir.

How to [H]ard up your iPhone, iPod, iPad and iMac: Toss it out and buy the new one.

Pass.

Rofl.

I kinda feel for the ipad users but they bring this on themselves by allowing apple to charge them whatever; bending over and taking the rape.

I feel the bashing is justified personally. The whole apple users are like religious zealots praising needlessly overpriced computing equipment as the most glorious thing ever and annoying regular people through an assortment of outlets aside. People should be upset because our ebook prices, namely through amazon, are so screwed as a direct result of apple's pricing scheme and their following's blind willingness to accept anything. Amazon said publishers could go screw themselves on cranking up ebook prices and ended up boycotting a few of them until they relaxed. Apple then swooped in and said all publishers could just raise prices to whatever level they want at the consumers expense because their flock would pay any price; defeating any sort of boycotting and negotiation on the behalf of the consumer. It's things like this that erk me.

Their prices aren't just unreasonably high, they set a terrible example in the eyes of the savvy consumer for other businesses to follow and instill this idea of supremacy in their user base. Apple is the embodiment of the anti-consumer and should be free game for bashing. It's just painful to hear someone argue with you how their new macbook with a nameless i7 running at a clockrate of 4.8 Gbps loaded with 80gb of ram booting their superior MacOS beats my signature rig because its new and apple made it.
X_X

Don't take the post too seriously. It's just in response to this ongoing defense against justly deserved Apple criticism. In this case, Apple's users are the only ones paying to begin with, otherwise there would not have been an issue with payment services.

.

So the antithesis of [H]ard means it is easy/intuitive to use, then I guess you are correct.
