NY Post Blocks Website Access for iPad Users

I can't argue that about which has the best technology and hardware, because I don't keep up on such things. I don't need a phone/tablet to replace my desktop/laptop. I do, however, have to agree with some of the people's complaints about Apple's marketing. For instance those commercials that states "If you don't have an iPhone well, you don't have an iPhone". They then show the iPhone doing some simply task that just about any phone can do implying that only the iPhone can do those things. Like playing mp3s, saving playlists, downloading ebooks...ets. It kind of re-enforces that idea that Apple thinks their users and potential users will just believe anything they say. This is why I personally believe they deserve some of the criticism they receive.

I don't think most people go out and get iPhones/iPad for all the reasons people here are claiming they are superior. Most people that I know that use them get them because they are trendy/hip to have one.

Why are you nitpicking? This is the [H] and as [H] users I would like to hope that we all know every hardware counts into making a device or computer work.

So the iPad's faster than your average Android device. So what? There's more Android choices to chose from and there'll be more still.

It's ok--expected even--for the H community to spend shitloads of money on the latest and greatest setup, even if they're getting minimal gains/enjoyment/1337-ness for those extra dollars.

Unless it's an Apple product, then they're elitist, liberal hippy bastards without two brain cells to rub together.

 @ forum

I group people that go out and overpay for the top of the line hardware with no regard for price vs performance points just to say they have "the best" in the Apple product owners.

I don't think that the majority of the people in the [H] community do this thought. Most people here shop for the best price/performance deals. I think you are just referring to the fringe.

Most Apple products aren't really elite. Most are very good but they are targeted to the mainstream consumer. And they really aren't that expensive, Apple computers are decently priced for what they offer, its much easier to spend a lot more on PC devices.

I'm not an Apple fan by any stretch but as far as most of Apple's hardware is concerned the pricing simply isn't what I would consider elite, it's mid-range.

With a high end price tag. Which is what the Apple people don't seem to get when we talk about them like we do.

They pay for what they think is top of the line.
OK, I guess, fine by me.

Then they brag about what they think is top of the line and talk about how much they paid like it's a badge of honor and intelligence. OK, I guess, still fine by me....I'm ignorant about a lot of things too.

But then, you try to educate them....and they flip out, ignore anything you say, and act like a cult member towards you. NOT fine by me.

This is what Apple peeps don't seem to get.

P.S. Owned an iphone and loved it.

The only products that are egregiously overpriced are the Macbook Pros. The Macbook Airs, Mac Mini, Mac Pro are pretty comparable across the board with PC manufacturers.

Isn't the cheap Macbook air around a grand? And that's basically a net book so i don't know if I can agree with you about that one. I don't know how much those other things cost.

Sounds like you're just picky on how people should act around you. You sound like a complete asshole on this forum. Where does that leave us? See what I'm getting at?

I'm an iPhone owner and my 11 year old has an iPod Touch 4th gen. Does that make us elitist snobs? No. You just chose to see us that way because we own Apple products.

FYI, not all Apple products are overpriced - but I'm sure you're smart enough to know that TechnieSooner. You just prefer to ignore the fact.

Fixed for you, and a lot of their products are overpriced, unless you think the logo is worth a couple hundred.

See, looks like you're also looking for attitudes to pin on me. Based on your posts here, I think you're a snob too. You look down on people who own Apple products.

I see Apple products as machines. They're not deities like some of you guys like to think of it as. Apple owners are not cult members newspapers make them out to be. They're just machines. Just like our PCs. Just like our Android devices. Just like our VCR players.

If you want to keep Apple users and products down, feel free! It's a free country. But try not to look for something that isn't there just so you can support your theories.

Oh assumptions, it's funny when people make them and make themselves look like fools. I actually owned a 3GS for a while before switching carriers because AT&T sucks. Some of the products are decent, most are overpriced. The phones aren't, mostly because they're subsidized. I hear the prices abroad where the phones are not subsidizes are absolutely absurd. Most of the computers are vastly overpriced. The problem is with people who want to try and justify spending more money than the product was really worth with what amounts to overhyped marketing that is on the verge of blatant falsehoods.

I don't need to look for an attitude to pin on you, you pin it on yourself with your snide remarks to anyone who happens to not worship the almighty Apple. Get a grip.

Yes really.

iPhones are the same price as android phones.

Ipads are cheaper than android counterparts

Your argument has no merit and is therefore drivel.

Really? I just bought an Evo 3D for $200 and guess what...it has insurance. I can lose it and get another one for $50. Do that with your iPhone...

Oh, and it way blows away iphones performance.

Yeah, right on.

As I type on my PC and gazing over the 27" iMac sitting in the box on the floor here...bad mainboard of course. That iMac cost as much to fix as a new one costs, and it's only 1.5 years old.

Look at this review of tablets:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4445/samsung-galaxy-tab-101-review/8

The bottom 2 benchmarks are graphics.

Apples to Apples, this comparison is not.
-Different OS, Different versions of the benchmark itself. Get Android running on the ipad, then benchmark it.
-Different Resolutions, 1280x800, 30% more pixels than 1024x768. Would that make a difference in performance?/B]

------------------------------
As to the original article. Apple did not block the website, the NY Times did. But who enabled them to ? Was this something internal that NY Times contacted Apple about to allow ? (these aren't rhetorical, I'd like to know the real answer, with proof)

As-is, the iPad does outperform them. That's all that matters.

The difference in pixel count shouldn't account for the iPad's ~2x performance versus the other tablets in those benches.

Man I'm no apple fan, but the ipad 2 just wrecks the competition in graphics. 30% more pixels or not, the performance gap is absurd beyond a 30% pixel difference.

Let's take a pole then. Because from looking at this thread, and seeing responses from people to you I'm sure a lot of people say you sound like one too. Difference is, I live in reality. You don't.

He's either trolling or a true Apple fanboy who doesn't live in reality. EIther way, it's pointless to try to debate with him. He'll never acknowledge anything you say.

He's the poster child Apple fanboy.

He made no assumptions.

Wow, what a snobby attitude! Civilized people would say "I think you've misunderstood. I said this and he said that. That's where I was coming from".

I stand by what I said.

I'll piece it together for you more explicitly since you seem to be having a hard time.

His assumption: I look down on people who own Apple products.
My response: Fun assumption, but no, I owned a 3GS.
Implication: If I looked down on people who owned Apple products, why would I buy one myself? Assumption proven false.
You: Misunderstanding what's going on completely.

Let's just agree that we disagree with each other's attitude and leave it at that. This is turning into a "no you!" "no you!" thread and frankly I'm getting bored of it.

Bah, meant to quote rflcptr. Oh well.

No need to be civilized when I'm talking to people who have no idea wtf is going on but feel the need to chime in anyway.

There's a reason a lot of us have him on ignore. I frequently see entire threads go by where not a single person responds to him.

Such as yourself, right? :)

I'm not the one coming in to conversations between other people, misreading the entire post, and feeling the need to give my, obviously, uninformed opinion. Read more carefully (or at all) in the future, perhaps.

With a high end price tag. Which is what the Apple people don't seem to get when we talk about them like we do.

Not really, and I take specific issue with the Macbook Pro being overpriced, or at least overpriced by much.

Take the MBP 13 and the Lenovo x220. Just priced it out and the MBP will run about $150 more for roughly the same specs but then is you look at the x220t, the tablet version similar specs for put the machine at about $250 more than the MBP 13. So there's a perfect example of a Mac being in the middle in terms of price and capability at the same level of performance and equivalent form factor though of course there's really nothing like a convertible Tablet PC in the official Mac world.

More reading failure from the same guy over and over. Hardly surprising. Yay ignore feature. Trollbegone.

The difference in pixel count shouldn't account for the iPad's ~2x performance versus the other tablets in those benches.

As is, this is a benchmark and I (nor you) know how well optimized the benchmark is on iOS vs Android.

If this was a benchmark of an actual game, then I could understand the "as is" aspect...but this is a benchmark, and not real world. The benchmark could be specifically written to show the iPad's strengths. We've all seen that in Ati vs Nvidia comparisons for ages.

From the 5-minutes of google-research I just completed, there really isn't another 3d test other than GLBenchmark to compare between the ipad and android... So /shrug to that.

Excuse me for being paranoid / skeptical, but that's just me.

For anyone that lives in NYC and has been exposed to this rag, you know The Post is the Geraldo Rivera of the newspaper world without the sweet moustache. Journalistic integrity of a weasle, sensationalist like a hawker handing out titty bar flyers, writing aptitude of a fourth grader, The Post has been the laughing stock of the city's non-retarded population for years.

The only redeemable quality to The Post are the ridiculous headlines (e.g. Man kills a group of endangered geese = "Murder Most Fowl"). That, and it can be used as toilet paper in an emergency.

Why anyone would want to dirty their tablet with this app is beyond me.

Someone doesn't know the definition of "sarcasm" obviously. Hint: you're that person.

LOL. Could it be ... you're making ... assumptions? :p
