The TITAN was originally positioned as prosumer card, it just happened to have gaming chops better than the top consumer card at the time and a lot of people purchased one because of it. My guess is when NVIDIA saw the majority of TITAN customers using them for gaming they decided to cut down the chips more to focus on gaming and potentially make more profit off of each one sold, hence when the Maxwell GTX TITAN X was released it lost the double precision hardware. This continued through the Titan Xp. What changed with the TITAN V? My guess is NVIDIA either saw a demand for more affordable hardware to execute deep learning research or they wanted the entry point for their much hyped deep learning technology to be more affordable to get more people to jump in. Maybe a little of both. With TITAN V you're basically getting 80% of a V100 for a third of the price, harkening back to the days of the GTX TITAN Black and KC40.I still find it interesting they marketed the card as "not a gaming card" But the Titan moniker was supposed to be enthusiast level cards from GeForce. You would think if its supposed to be the workstation card it would run under the moniker of Quadro. I know it was supposed to bridge some gaps between the two but what would be the point of that?
Great Review Kyle probably one of the best and most in-depth reviews I've read in a long time. Which is why I stick with [H]ardOCP when it comes to their opinion of hardware.
I do notice now that its branded at straight up Titan. Geforce was the branding for gaming cards. It is not down to random defects in the chipsets nor a bad batch of products, since Nvidia has encountered this type of cockup in the past, we are told. The moneybags biz released patches for some of its older GeForce and Titan models that exhibited similar problems to address these errors. There was no issue with its Titan X card based on its Pascal architecture, we're told.
Unlike previous GeForce and Titan GPUs, the Titan V is geared not so much for gamers but for handling intensive parallel computing workloads for data science, modeling, and machine learning.

In that case I'm not impressed with this card. Yeah, I have my 1080 TI on water sitting @ 150% power going up to 2.114 GHZ and it's pretty close to this Titan V despite being (more) CPU limited. Not worth 3K IMO.
Did you guys notice any specific graphical anomalies or weird issues due to the lack of gaming specific tweaks (for the Titan V) in the drivers in the games tested? Didn't notice any mentions of that.
I felt like Vulkan API performance for games wasn't very optimized. Plus, the driver was using an older Vulkan API version from last year. Even if you install the latest Vulkan SDK, the game only uses the driver Vulkan version since that's what the driver supports. I think it could stand some optimization there. The hardware is being held back by the software in that gaming situation.
The shit cooling on the Titan V doesn't help either.
Too cool! An EK at that. It's one thing to dream of a Titan V but another altogether tioimagine one with an EK waterblock and it's a whole other story. I tried looking for reviews of one but couldn't find any.Bitspower and EKWB have water blocks for the Titan V.

The gaming cards could certainly be even faster for gaming.
The memory bandwidth provided by HBM2 is likely not needed for gaming workloads, and neither are the tensor cores. If even half of that extra die space currently used for tensor cores were preserved and converted to additional shader cores without a loss of clockspeed, the new card would easily eclipse the Titan V for gaming. And probably at lower BOM and significantly lower retail prices.

Fast but not 3k fast imo.No it's not, we should have some details on the next gen soon.
Part of me wishes I went with Titan V, but the DGX and it's 8 Volta are worth it.
There are specific optimizations required to make full use of the Tensorcores of Volta, in my testing on apples to apples programs I've made without the optimizations, Tesla Volta can be slower than Tesla Pascal.

Not my wheelhouse and do not intend to spend the money to chase after that market.Kyle, respectfully I do read some of them. To be honest, when reading the gaming and hardware results, I just jump to the final talking points under "conclusion" and observe for the [H] GOLD sign. I've learned, you know your stuff and your word is worth more than GOLD.
