The stats are great, but what is the point of this thing? Who is the target market? I don't think has been thought through all the way. Also, Price, Games?? Availability?

Should this be in General Gaming and not Console? It's not really a console. Hell I'm not really sure what it REALLY is. Very confusing all the way around.

Yeah, first thing I thought was, oh OK, its the Wii U gamepad for my PC. But now, after reading more, I'm not sure what this thing is trying to be. Will it really stream my Planetside 2 match from my PC? But the real question is, why would I want to leave my 5.1 audio, 40inch 1080p LED, to stream to a 5 inch 720p screen? I'm trying to figure out WHO this thing is actually for.....

I updated the original post with another link via slashgear.
They claim that they will make money off of the device. This suggests an open platform?

I am not 100% sure I know what this device is all about but I thought the same thing about the PS Vita.
 
Why do they have both joysticks on the bottom? Generally it is more comfortable to have your thumbs in the center. Do they think the d-pad will be used more or are they afraid of it looking too much like an Xbox controller?
 
I'm not sure why this is so great. It's a wireless game pad for the PC. Nothing wrong with this, but I just don't see a market for it. I'm either going to use a console or the PC. Or, if on the go, a DS or PSP/Vita. It's placement in the market is confusing.

200 bucks and it might be worth it if you already have a nice pc with GTX 650 in it atleast. Wouldnt mind just hanging out in a different room and playing some smaller games while watching tv. Looks pretty nice too. Not much else you can do to the design without giving up comfort.
 
I heard the price will be $499, and you gotta have a GTX650 or higher to stream PC games. (GTX660m if mobile).
 
This is exactly what the gamer community has been clamoring for: An Android-based game system that requires another game system in order to do anything another, cheaper Android device can't do. Wait, no...
 
the price entry prob too high for me to consider it, but there are a few games i wouldnt mind playing in my living room or being a bit more mobile with and not actually having to use the tv if i didnt want too since i babysit my nieces 2yr and 6yr olds and let them use the tv for their shows and i still need to be in the room.

it would be nice to turn my pc on in the other room and play my steam games in the room with my nieces watching some cartoon or disney show on the tv.

but again the price of getting a new router along with the shield is just too much.
 
If you needed the Playstation 3 to game with the Vita, people would call BS. It's a handheld gaming set up that requires a PC. No thanks. I'd prefer my monitor to the Shield's display.

I just don't get the Shield, and I think nVidia's going to have a hard time selling this, and maybe they will, but I think it seems more like a nice product. I don't see where this really fits into a need of PC gaming. It's only semi-mobile. I'd be more interested if you'd be able to take it on the road and use it if you hooked up to a network...but I suppose that's probably not feasible either.

I like gaming, but I think I can put the controller down to take a shit. I think this is a creative item, but that doesn't mean it's going to go far. Then again, the tablet market was in the same boat a few years ago, so we'll see.
 
I had a feeling that Nvidia would go this route a long time ago. I believe it was last year during E3 that they showcased Splashtop for Android streaming games from a PC with a GTX 580 to a tablet.
 
Project shield might just be the magic bullet. Lets face it, XBOX720 and PS4 whatever, yeah. But playing Steam games I already own and love on a TV with the shield, AND having access to Google Play, I am just wondering, can the shield be the "console for the rest of us"?
 
So the Wii U is crap for having this already but Nvidia copies the idea and all the nvidia fan boys are letting Nvidia go balls deep by saying this is the greatest thing since sliced weiner dogs?
 
nVidia saying "we won't be greedy" while charging $1000 for their top-end video card is kind of laughable.

Interested to see how Shield pans out, though.

It seems to me that most people aren't criticizing the WiiU for it's controller, they are criticizing it for a lack of games, either 1st party or newly released 3rd party. Getting third party games that came out 1-2 years ago on all other platforms isn't really anything to get excited about.

Geez. What the hell buddy, I never said a damn thing about the Wii U. I am also not saying that Shield is the greatest, I am just speculating at this point.

I am sure Wii U is a great system.

The main focus here is the ability to make use of my Steam library via this device, which I think is very cool.

Sometimes I wish I did live under a rock.

It definately does not help when people on the forum state blatantly obviously false things though...

My original post was meant to refer people the Wii U thread where people are bashing the tablet controller stating it's a gimmick... but when Nvidia copies the concept, it all of a sudden becomes cool? (I think not)

If I am going to stream anything from my PC, it's going to be to a LARGER display, not a smaller one though...
 
$349 is very high. People aren't going to understand what they are getting for that money,
 
$349 is better than I expected (thought for sure they'd brain fart and price the thing at $599).

Not liking the decrease from 32 GB onboard storage to 16 GB (and the weaker battery).
 
I think if I was gonna spend $350 on mobile gaming I'd buy a 3DSXL + games or Vita + games.
 
If I was going to pony up $350 for an Android device I'd spend an extra $50 and get a Nexus 10 or spend $50 less and get a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" that has double the hard drive space of this thing. For that price they can keep it. At $200 or $250 I'd have been interested. Might be slightly tempted at $300, but would probably still not bother. At $350, no interest at all.

I bought a Wii U for that money and it is by far the better choice in terms of $$ spent for gaming.

The Wii U game pad has about a 30 ft range to stream video which is enough to take it downstairs and use it about the house.

Considering that Best buy will sell you a Wii U gamepad for $180 we can say for sure that half of that is pure profit....
