Nvidia 980/970 Availability Thread

Thanks for the picture :D if someone posts a clear receipt pic of the 299$ price that would be awesome. I never had much luck with the 970 cards I owned with constant electrical noise, so I went with a single 980 instead. If these are as quiet as people say, I will be really excited :)

Its actually the same card...... Newegg just does not have it in stock currently but you wouldnt know without adding to cart. Both are proprietary NV cards. But keep pretending you know. I saw the actual card in store, did you?

And BB would not PM due to BF sales. I just had Fry's PM a monitor tonight just fine.

This exact card is not available on newegg. You must be referring to the one that can be part of a bundle for a pre built pc but the card has no price at all to even match.
 
Seems that newegg and Amazon both got the ASUS 970 here in this morning....that last all of 15 minutes. Atleast according to nowinstock.net

Many people think price matching is just there for them to abuse and try tricking retailers with.

Lol well you just were not making any sense. And I really hope you are not thinking that a 970 is an upgrade over what you have now. You will need 1350-1400 just to match a 780 at 1200 so even with good overclocker you will probably only end up 10% faster at best.

No, its for my sons computer. He is building a computer with his own money he saved up (hes 14, wants a gaming machine of his own plus something for school work).

My 780 is almost as fast as a 780ti with the overclock and thats plenty fine for me. He will be running a 1080p 144hz monitor on games like BF4, CoD, ect.

And a 780 @ 1200mhz will be right on par with a factory 970. A 1400+ clock on a 970 will be faster than my 780 unfortunately. I told the wife I was going to trade him cards :D

Most 780 cards are lucky to hold 1150 to 1200 MHz core speed for a 24/7 gaming speed, while 1500 or so is commonplace on the gtx 970, with many coming out of the box at 1350 to 1400. A good number even reach 1570 to 1600. Add in much lower heat output, silent operation, MfAA support, lower power draw, and 4gb of vram and it's indeed a fine upgrade.

Hotcakes never sold this well. In just half a quarter the Maxwell 2.0 cards have been restocked often and largely but keep selling out propelling nvidia to over 72 percent of the discrete video card market share held. I shudder to think what this quarter's numbers will be like, certainly not pretty for AMD which sucks because we need a viable competition in gpus so the market doesn't end up like the cpu one has with Intel :(.

No a 970 is most certainly not a "fine upgrade" over a 780 at 1200 mhz. Again you are talking about 5-10% at best and thats if the 970 ocs past what its typical. Hell in the Linus 970 Strix review their 780 beat the 970 overall when both were oced as the 780 they had was a good overclocker where their 970 was not. And that other stuff is nearly meaningless in the whole scheme of things and would justify an upgrade for most people.

Thanks for your input but 20 or so percent performance, 2/3 power consumption and heat output, quieter operation, and MfAA all make it a good upgrade especially for those aiming at sli. The extra vram is nice for us 4k gamers, too!

Looking at more reviews, it would take over 1400 on a 970 just to match his 780 at 1200 overall. No way in hell a 970 can be oced enough to end up 20% faster overall than a 780 at those clocks. As I already said, Linus ended up having his 780 beating the Asus Strix 970 overall when both were oced.

Wrong again. Here's a review roundup comparing well oc'd gtx 780, 780ti, r9 290, R9 290X, and Gtx 970 cards. My numbers are not exaggerated in the slightest:

Yes the hell they are. It takes just over 1400 to match a 780 at 1200. No way in hell you will have a 970 beating a 780 clocked at 1200 by 20%. That 970 would have to be oced well past 1700 with near perfect scaling to do that. :rolleyes:

And I owned a 970 for weeks and compared it to my 780. At 1150 my oced 780 beat my 970 which was hitting over 1300 out out of the box.

EDIT: And your own link backs me up more than you. Do the math and the oced Strix 970 there is not even but about 2% faster overall than the the oced Strix 780. And its boost is 230 higher than the 780 so that clearly backs up what I said about 970 would have to go past 1400 to beat the 780 at 1200. Plus most Strix 970 reviews dont even go over 1500 or in some case not even close to that.
