NV40 = 1 molex. haha

Just ordered a Antec TC 550W with +12V@24A :D

2 molex, 2 slots. That is one monstrous card. With that size, it had better perform extremely well or nVidia shot themselves in the ass. Again. 'Course, this is a PREview, not the retail card.

I'm more interested in the non-ultra anyway, I think. Hopefully that would be 1 slot.

Why? you got 5 PCI cards in there? I hope it's 2 slot! = more cooling!

I love that hs in those pics!...just needs to be turned around :D

for a while i had 5 pci slots used.

voodoo5 5500
u2w scsi controler
nic
sound
hollywood + dvd decoder

doubt i'll ever get it that full again thanks to onboard lan and dual head cards

Plus kickass boards now with really good sound, gigabit lan, and every ide/sata raid controller you could possibly need, I don't see much point in any expansion cards for normal use. Maybe a sound card if you really are an audio freak and need more than 6.1 or any of that other freaky stuff.

Using the onboard stuff lowers power consumption too, so you can have a smaller powersupply

Well as long as mainboards don´t got inbuild radios/tv:s and dvd cards of the same class as the Realmagic Xcard I am still a PCI whore. Onboard S-ATA, soundstorm, 100 mb network card can´t help that.

i have an audigy 2 zs with the livedrive right now so i'd probably take it with me to my next mainboard. onboard sound has gotten a lot better but i think the nicer pci cards will probably still sound better

No but why did they feel the urge for external power ;) Because they where behind with an ancient design that didn´t work very well.

I mean when they try to make up for bad handling with raw power ;) Not saying that that is the case with the NV40 it looks good on paper but I do think that if they could they would rather have one molex than two ;) Not that I care about that very much even though my 550 W Antec PSU is running out of Molex connections already :D

And yes 4 cylinders are much much more effective than V8:s. Look at the performance out of how much use they acquire ;) Much higher HP/fuel burn ratio thanks to the lighter design and turbo boosts and such.

ROFL. I suppose thats why NASCAR, NHRA, and about every other real racing league uses V8's. Show me the 4 cylinder Top Fuel Dragster with 5500 HP that turns a 1/4 mile at 320MPH/4.47 seconds. That's right, there isn't one! The only reason to drive a 4 banger is for fuel economy. If you drive one and like racing you just coundn't afford a V8. So when is Ferrarri changing the Enzo over to 4 cylinders? When is Ford changing the Ford GT over to 4 cylinders? How come they haven't realized the 4 cyldinder RuLeZ d00d! 4 cylinders engines can't make torque, period. Showing me a Civic engine where some moron spent $100,000 getting the same torque as a stock V8 in a Mustang won't prove anything to me either. www.riceboypage.com

so molex splitter = fire?

wrong.

They'd better come up with a single slot version, even if it's not in Ultra trim. If not I'll be umm... well, I'll be upset. I've got all my slots filled dammit.
SCSI
FC-AL
2nd vid card (3 screens...)
Sound (Onboard sucks...)
TV card
Not to mention the 2 slots next to my vid card are 64-bit, so that's where the SCSI and FC-AL go.

If they don't I guess I'll have to think about water cooling.

No, you are wrong. I would explain but I fear you still wouldn't understand. There's a reason why you aren't supposed to hook your entire computer to one rail with splitters.

You're wrong. A molex splitter is fine if you are nowhere near the max of the rail and just ran out of connectors. If the rail can provide x and the video card needs 2x and you use a molex splitter......... FIRE.

i hope the new cards dont need two UNUSED rails because my 420W only has 2 rails:eek: and i have my fans on one and my CD drives/HDDs on another so im gonna have to push my PSU to its limits if i get a NV40/R420, i think of my 9600XT a warm-up for my AGP slot;)

No, I don't act like that. Any card ATI puts out that doesn't meet AGP specs, and needs external power is also a hack.

okay, im sorry but you're stupid; period.

SFF, ever heard of it?

1 AGP, 1 PCI. Video card and tuner. What exactly should I give up so I can have the "oppurtunity" to own the Dual Slot Hypercooler with Leafblower II technology!?

Still hoping for single slot solution.

Ditto.

I absolutely NEED a single slot card, unless I'm willing to mod my case and have the heatsink/fan stick out the side of my case!

I have 5 PCI slots. Only one of which is used. Personally I like the 2 slot design and I read today on the web that the card will be 2 slot, but that OEM's that change the cooling system on the card can make it a one slot if they choose. Don't be surprised to see both out there like the 5950U cards.

Personally I like the two slot design as it keeps you from blocking the airflow to the fan with another card.

As I am a computer technician who works on other people's machines, I think it's great. Because alot of people do that. They think they know what they are doing but they don't. They'll install a card right under there video card and block the fan. So I hope most vendors will stick to the two slot design.

I would like to see a 3 slot version of the VGA Silencer :) copper base with tall aluminum fins, wider fan blower etc...

That would own :D

not really...But I guess it's mini-atx. In that case you wouldn't be running the top of the line anything in there. This is for people that want to be all that they can be...not be as small as they can be

Come on, we all knew that SFF users would be left out in the cold when it comes to the new cards. Nvidia is recommending that users have a 430w PSU, hows a SFF going to do that? I'm sure that OEMs will have a one sloter in the pipelines but you can't get around the PSU issue.

You guys aren't getting it. Do you REALLY THINK all of NVIDIA's NV40 based stuff will have two connectors? SFF people aren't enthusiasts. Only the very high end NV40s will have two molex.

I don't buy it. Just because it's SFF doesn't mean it can't be a top of the line gaming machine.

That depends on what you mean by "NV40 based stuff".
If you mean the NV41, I doubt it will have both connectors, and same for the NV43. The NV40 non-ultra card might only have one, but at this point no man can say for sure based on PR photos, CG mockups and leaked pictures of preproduction Ultra boards.

The NV45 though, might have three ;) :D

Really? Funny, my SFF HTPC has been running a top-line card for 16 months now. 9700pro until last month, 9800pro currently. Hopefully r420 or single slot nv40 this summer. I need good FPS when playing games on the 100 inch diagonal screen. Not to mention AA/AF. Projectors are fun.

You are one of those people who fell for the "Real gamers WANT loud fans! It makes their Counter Strike e-penises bigger!" crap that came with the nv30, aren't you? Remember that? The marketing and customers that nVidia employees (high ranking ones at that) were making fun of in published videos 6 months later?

As for the PSU, I'll upgrade to the highest wattage out. No big deal.

Actually I came here right when the GF2 Ultra was coming out and bought it. Didn't start reading [H] again untill a few weeks ago and saw some new cards were coming out :D I think it's time to buy again.

...I still want some kick ass cooling stock :-P

I want kick-ass cooling too. But this thing looks poorly engineered to me. Hell, it vents INTO the case! Even the infamous nv30 cooler vented out!

I think nVidia recognizes my plight:

I think they mean: Time to watercool that HTPC, LabRat!

OH yea, and dude that said about his 12v rail being at 11v... check my sig :D

How do you F in up so it's 8v? I'm at 11v because my PSU isn't atx12v compliant. I didn't know I needed a atx12v connector until I built a P4 system for someone :(

well what I did was I bought a 30 dollar 300 watter which was the lowest ps that this mobo can run on, and this was before I realized there was even a difference between one ps to the next. One stupid decision, but hey it works and has worked for quite a while, a year+?
