Northbridge Temp on DS3

This is probably a really easy answer but can anyone tell me how to find the Northbridge temp on my Gigabyte DS3? The only possible option in Everest in "Motherboard Temp" but it's so low it just doesn't seem right.
 
I don' think there's a way. BIOS has a "System Temp" which you can see in Speedfan as well. Mine's running at 65C. An email from Gigabyte told me that "System Temp" was a combination of a bunch of temps, not just NB.

But yes, my NB is purty warm.
 
Are you overclocking at all? I thought mine was hot at 45C, measured via speedfan, although I just assumed the hottest temp there was northbridge since that heat sink gets hot to the touch.
 
No overclocking.
A revised email from Gigabyte confessed that there is in fact only 1 sensor (but they won't tell me where it is).

I put a 60mm fan on it, just to see what would happen. The best I could get it down to was like 40°C. That's crazy. That tells me even if I put a new HS/fan on it, it prolly wouldn't help.

Unless...unless I got a bum board & they guy putting thermal paste on just screwed up.
 
AFAIK there is no register on the MCH that outputs a temp.

Per section 10.8 of the Intel data sheet for the MCH as I read and hopefully understand it, you can only set thermal trip points and offsets and enable/disable the reporting and chip reaction when the settable temp trip-point or the catastropic temp trip point is reach. There is no register to read the actual internal chip temp like we can the cpu.

There is a fairly beleivable post that the "system sensor" is near or on the southbridge but I do not have a DS3 to check this assertion.

In any event, it is pretty much a given that for any decent OC the MCH/northbridge requires a fan. Removing the heatpipe and replacing the very poorly applied thermal paste with a proper application of good paste is also an excellent idea.
