NIOH

Kind of funny. The Souls/Borne games were very clearly inspired by Team Ninja's Ninja Gaiden games. Now it looks like TN is borrowing a lot from the From formula.
I enjoy both series' so I'm okay with that. I'd actually rather they went with a slightly faster Ninja-gaiden 1 speed, though.

I wouldn't forget about King's Field. Which, was From Softwares earlier games.

this game looks amazing...totally reminds me of the Souls games (Bloodborne included)...wish I had known about this when the alpha was available...either way I'm looking forward to it...hopefully it comes out this year...I need something to quench my Dark Souls fix until From Software announces their next game...

Hmm, I thought I was over the Souls games, but I have a soft spot for all things Samurai. Definitely going to keep an eye on this one. Thanks!

Nioh Beta Demo Begins August 23 on PS4

With the Beta demo more of the rewarding (yet dangerous) gameplay from the Alpha will be present. A new dojo stage will feature an intense training session which teaches the basics of Nioh’s samurai combat system. Players will also be able to explore a yet-to-be-announced stage...a selection of new katana, spears, axes, and hammers will be available to collect to uniquely suit a player’s gameplay style. Players will also be able to add a few new weapons to their arsenal as well...

I think this is the game that lets you toggle between 30 and 60 fps. 60fps mode has reduced graphics.

Personally, I'd take 720p/60 over 1080p/30 every single time. Do I like being stuck at 720p? No, but I'd still rather have that than 30fps.
I just can't stand 30fps games anymore.

Tell me if it's good if you try it out you guys know best plus my PS+ expired like a year ago.

Exact opposite for me, I put more hours into the nioh demos then bloodborne total. Gameplay mechanics actually felt different enough to engage my interest in this style of game again.

Forgot all about this coming soon...and I'll be out of town on the release date. I guess that'll give me some time to read the early reviews just in case.

I'm hearing good things from players who have played the alpha and betas...compares very favorably to Souls with its own distinct flavor...looks like the difficulty is pretty high (which is something I really like)...the only real issue seems to be the balancing...I sold my PS4 in August but might just pick up a PS4 Pro for this (I'm also interested in a few other exclusives- Horizon: Zero Dawn and Detroit: Become Human)

I think NIOH will overshadow the game For Honor just due the gameplay mechanics alone.
I might pick up this game instead hell it will be the 4th game I buy for the PS4 since Bloodborne.

I wonder if the game will give me the same feeling as Shadow Warrior which is a fake Japanese setting basically but this game is more Japanese than Shadow Warrior 2 which is a parody of Japanese culture or Chinese.

This game might come out on the PC I've been reading someone opened a petition on the Steam forums.

Played it a little over the weekend. I honestly think the controls are designed to mess with Dark Souls players :p Not being able to map dodge to the circle buttons is straight-up wrong.

I really want to like this, but the controls for Dark Souls are so ingrained into me that I couldn't do much of anything without reverting to that scheme in my mind. I'm hoping the final version will offer up at least one scheme that maps dodge to the circle button.

Well you can just rebind under the accessibility -> button assignments in the ps4 settings menu if you just want to swap buttons around. Best feature ever.

I was going to reformat my PS4 then I seen this game in the store. I wish I tried the demo a few weeks ago.

I don't have a PS4 Network subscription can I still download the game off the store this way?

i guess you can't co-op without a PS+ subscription from what I read but you can still buy games.

Yes, you don't need a PS+ subscription to utilize the store.

Waiting to see if the retail product has difficulty settings. This one was harder than the Souls games for me, and I could barely handle those.

I gave up on the demo (the controls made me mad) but it felt a bit like a Ninja Gaiden and Dark Souls hybrid. Not sure I like the different stances, but I suppose I could get used to it.
For all of the issues people have had with Dark Souls, outside of a couple bosses I still think the "Razor's Edge" version of Ninja Gaiden 3 was harder than any of them.

Are the Hard light attacks on not on the Bumpers or something?

Nope. In fact, the control scheme is closer to Ninja Gaiden. The attacks are mapped to Square and Triangle with X dodging and Circle as the "interact" button. I can deal with using the face buttons (the Witcher used them) but not being able to remap circle is a travesty.
I'll probably end up swapping the button scheme in the Accessibility panel. Hopefully that doesn't screw anything else up. Do in-game button prompts react to it or will I forever be pressing a different button than what the game tells me?

Well that is dumb they must want people to hurt their hands....I had problems with cramping while playing Dark Souls 3 in long sessions with a X-BOX controller.
Maybe you can switch them on the fly in the final release.

Nioh review embargo is lifted...here are some official reviews...sounds really good with some flaws...closer to Ninja Gaiden then Souls apparently but definitely has elements of both...

"While the combat system and bosses offer a worthy successor to Souls and Gaiden fans, there are a few ways that Nioh falls short of the modern masterpiece it strives to be...The most troublesome problem with Nioh is its repetition...For all it does right, its padding is obvious and often obnoxious...Furthermore, the maps don't contain a lot of secrets...You can occasionally find some sweet loot and upgrades, but there are never any NPCs to talk to, puzzles to solve, or other mysterious objects to interact with...Nioh is set in a mystical, magical world, yet when it comes to prodding these labyrinthine innards, what you see is what you get"

I tried using the PS4 button reassignment feature with FFXV and ended up switching back to normal and just getting use to their control system because it messes up the onscreen interactions and prompts. It might not be an issue with this game but with FFXV that has different controls per thing you are doing your going to get prompts and QT like events that will be completely wrong an cause you missed hits etc... There really is NO substitute for key remapping outside of a game if the controls are inconsistent throughout the game or it has any kind of QT like events.

DOH. That's what I was afraid of. I hate when games don't offer very basic button remapping. Especially when the games intentionally deviate from schemes that players are used to.
I get that things like triggers and analog sticks aren't always flexible, but bumpers and face buttons should be.

I have such a backlog otherwise I would jump on this game but I'm all Dark Soul Sold out
