Nintendo Wii - THOUGHTS!!!

Man nintendo has really gone all out with their new concepts (first the touch screen and now they have i believe successfully achieved taking gamers closer to virtual reality).

I mean its kinda like the whole dance dance revolution, only 100000000 times better and more practical. I believe this will be a much larger hit than most people anticipate.....

AND it most definately doesnt have 3 CPU and a extreme GPU, which means lower graphic standard.... but on the postive note, much lower HEAT, and lower power consumption, and MUCH MUCH lower cost..... thus most people would buy it cause its cool, fun, family oriented and cheap. :)

Kudos Nintendo! Your regaining your title! :p

Its been talked about in countless threads by now. But personally-- I think they're delivering their strategy quite well. They stated that they would like the Wii to be the secondary console, which will work out quite well since its so unique and will be so cheap. People will want to buy it to put it next to their xbox360s or ps3s...which I think is a great thing =D

I heard on engadget podcast that the wii is gonna be about $250 for a lite version and about $400-$500 for a 'regular' version.

the wii site it up now at nintendo

http://wii.nintendo.com/philosophy.html

you can see people dancing around. i'll personally get to those flip moves when the wii comes out, gotta buy one because those $1000 360 and ps3's are a joke. i mean cmon $500 for an xbox360 wtf? imo

CPU: PowerPC CPU (code-named "Broadway"). Made with a 90 nm SOI CMOS process, jointly developed with and manufactured by IBM.

Graphics Processing Unit: Being developed with ATI.

i think it's hilarious that msf and ntendo are both using the same chips

I can't afford to put down $500+ for a console and being able to really control the movement on the screen with accuracy has always been a dream. I first got hooked on it with the fishing controller on the Dreamcast. After that, I always hope one day i can use it to swing a sword like in Bushido Blade with similar technology, but for now fishing will have to do until Wii comes out :(.

Hm... the latest issue of EGM coming out has a lot of info, and they've only stated 249.99. All I know is that Reggie said that we'll be having more fun for less money, and when xbox360 debuted at 300 for the core they said they wanted to be cheaper than that.

good review of the wii launch event on engadget :D wii :D  :p

also there is gonna be a regular controller

picture27ew.png

wonder how the controller is gonna be. frustrating or nice and easy. here's a pic of a dude kinda doing body movements with the controller to move around a corner and shoot a dude. i think if this gets any more real the esrb is gonna have to cap this violence imo getting too real

Anyone notice a lot of the games shown at Nintendo's conference were in widescreen mode? Also, IGN mentions the games they demo'd were in 16x9, and also had progressive scan.

Yup.... its most probably supports HD...

if you go to the official Wii site and look at Zelda's screenshot... u will notice its 100% widescreen...

I've watched some of the videos for the Nintendo Wii and it's probably going to be the 'best' console on the market. When I say, 'best,' I mean gameplay and fun...and not insane graphics or huge tits.

This is exactly what i had mentioned before (perhaps not here though)...

Just to sum it up, I had said that games will reach a point that they will be utterly realistic. And we would all want fun arcade style gaming that we all experianced growing up.... thus we would fall back toward less realistic games....

I mean take Pac-Man, it had no story... its been more than 20 years since its birth, and it STILL is fun... At the end of the day most people want to kick off their shoes, relax and have alittle fun, they turn on their consoles and they want fun.... :)

So cheers to Nintendo.... man i wish i had kept my good old nintendo game thing, remember those old portable games, with battery... not sure what they were called.... but damn i remember i had a couple of them... :)

I just watched both sony's and nintendo's E3 press conferences. The first 5 mins of nintendo's conference blew away sony's entire 1.5 hour presentation.

Sony's presentation was the standard BS which everyone expected to hear, regurgitation of stuff no one wants to hear, and the typical BS you would expect them to say.

Nintendo's was like the opposite, it was exciting and innovating, seeing the controller in use was quite something to behold. And they let the random winner from the crowd come up and play virtual tennis with the controller (with shigeru miyamoto of all people!), plus they showed zelda mario metroid etc ...
Nintendo hit a home run.

Im all for the machine and am thinking about getting 2 of them if there are some good coop/link up games etc, BUT from what ive seen and what puts me off a little is that its not looking like a "kick off your shoes and relax" type of console, The games are that involving which is a good thing that its a means of excercise aswell!! but i just wanna lay on the sofa and play games most of the time, so my Wiis are going in the Gym Area with projectors and the PS3 gets the living room 100" Projector/tv, The 360 gets the 19" samsung widescreen in the office. Love the snes controller btw!

Its a bit of a git if your disabled/have bad arms etc if you cant play these games normally using a gamepad. or even have the wii in your bedroom and have to play the games from your top bunk next to the ceiling lmao. Kids that have to have the console in their small box bedroom are gonna be real pissed lol.
Has any Bowling games been announced??

Another funny thing is i hope it does not affect my golfing and tennis playing in real life!! Nintendo making me lose a real game of tennis would real piss me off

Kick of shoes and relax? You kidding me? I say relaxing is mellowing out, sat down doing sweet FA. From what I've seen so far is ppl waving a wand around furiously, tiring themselves out. Hardly what I'd call kicking off shoes and relaxing.

Fun? Debateable. At first it will be unique, but when I wanna game on Fifa I don't wanna run around the focking living room pretending to play football, if I want to do that I'll go outside. Same with this Tennis demo. Wanna play tennis? Hey why not play the real thing? There's an idea! Here is a racket, a ball and a partner....give me Virtua Tennis on the PSP anyday, that's more relaxing.

This will finish Nintendo, mark my words. They will go the way of Sega.

I think it is innovative as it allows people to do more than just push a simple button to do an action. It all depends on your definition of fun, whether you would like to just push a button and see what happens or try to do it more realistically.

I think Nintendo games for the Wii will allow for both types of gameplay, like how the conference talked about Zelda utilizing the new controller in the Wii version, makes it sound like you can perfectly do everything in the game with a regular controller. That would be cool.. Everybody is happy. If you wanna do a mortal kombat fatality, do a few putton presses. If you want to really get in the mood, switch to the other controller and start wacking.

I think Nintendo will seriously cause a flurry of anti-game protestors and lawsuits though. Think of two little kids (or two grown adults for that matter) playing some street fighter game and they start to really bash each other with their controllers. Would be really funny and disheartening at the same time. Or a resident evil game where one of the moves allows you to stab down into a fallen zombie's body, or even a real person. Get down on your knees and do that stabbing motion. Oh man it'll be all over the news.

This is such a lame excuse not to like it. That can be said about and video game... wanna shoot things? Go hunting or play paintball. Wanna race? Buy a beater and go autocrossing. The list goes on and this really doesn't apply to the console...

lol on the stab thing. it's like foreva to wait for my wii so i'm gonna cop a gcn only $99 now. wiiiiiiiiiii

Apart from cost which you conveniently leave out. Tennis racket and ball will cost less than a Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii and the game. Same with majority of sports games.

Last time I looked there weren't many alien planets to run around killing things at will, and I'm sure the law prohibits Serious Sam style massacres....

Maybe you condone that sort of thing in real life, I certainly don't, hence my thoughts on making sports games 'real' seems to be clutching at straws for Nintendo. They know they can't beat Microsoft and Sony at traditional gaming so to stand any kind of chance they need a gimmick. Personnaly i can't see it being big in Europe and the States. We are too fat and lazy, if we can't be bothered to go out in the fresh air and play these sports, why the hell would we wanna do the same indoors?

Get outside and stay fit, you never know u may even enjoy it.

Id love to do some street fighting and samurai sword fighting but i might kill someone!......

10 hit combo on Tekken...Oh that's right that's a Sony game ;)

OK how about a 48hit ULTRA COMBOOOOOOOOOOOOOO KI style....

I'm 18, I've played soccer since I have been 7, ref soccer on the weekends and lift 3 time a week, and I don't appreciate your tone in that last sentence. I don't understand why people are always so afriad of change. It's not like they don't have a regular controller for it, and it's not like you acutally have to run all over if you don't want to. I mean if the Wii doesn't interest you I'm not telling you to buy it, go play your PS3 and 360s. I have always had my nintendo cpnsoles for fun games that I could also play with friends and my PC for FPS and multiplayer games, roms, etc (besides web design, graphics, etc.) I'm just ready for something new. That's why enjoy different games so much. Last week my sister (16) had some friends over and I whipped out the sets of Bongos and had a blast playing through the songs. It's things like this that make nintendo fun. I wouldn't have been able to get an xbox out and play Halo with them, or PS2 and play God of war or something. Nintendo just has more for everyone, and they are really expanding with this controller. Just my 2 cents

First of all you picked the best game on the planet to play :D and I'm sure you would agree that being out on the field with your mates will be far superior than trying to simulate the exact same thing in your living room.....now winner stays on in 'old style' Fifa06 is a different story, but that is digressing.

Secondly, from a personnal POV i will gladly try games on Wii, the problem is when you take a cross section of gamers and look at their lifestyle. You really think these people will be able to last a set actually playing tennis in this style? Unlikely, and this is where Nintendo will fall. They will become know as a novelty console, one to whip out at partys etc. Real gaming will be for the 360 and PS3. Deny it all you want but I find it very hard that they will get a decent market share when all 3 are out on the market.

I believe Nintendo's plan of getting "NEW" gamers while appealing to the CORE gamer is an ingenius idea. I personally know that the complexity of some games these days with the Xbox and PS2 have prevented groups from playing their games. These groups being potential new gamers and the "older" groups of people who don't have 2-3 hours a day to sit though the learning curve of a more complex system.

Nintendo trys to appeal to ALL groups by making things extremely intuitive. Maybe Nintendo won't appeal to the 300lb flat asses or the countless number of !!!!!!'s who believe that resolution and FPS are the only things that count. But I believe that by bringing an extra dimension of potential fun Nintendo is on the right track for attracting an enormous audience.

By the looks of things Nintendo offers gamers and developers tons more mobility thus I believe we will start seeing much more interesting types of games from this console. I think the masses are starting to become tired of the regurgitated games masked with new graphics and 1 or 2 new features.

Nintendo used to be criticized for "targeting" a specific gamer, namely the young kids. But now I believe it is Sony and Microsoft who are closing themselves off, while Nintendo is targeting, young children, adults of all ages, as well as the CORE gamer. If Nintendo can pull it off (and I believe they can). It could be Microsoft and Sony who should be worried. They're hoping their consoles will last something like 7 years. If Nintendo's "new paradigm" strategy takes hold, MS and Sony may loose the market share they hoped for over this LONG period.

Graphics and Special FX are important for Movies, but when it comes to interactive gaming, they should be secondary to making the experience as involved, intuitive and fun as possible.

Had to add this: The speaker on the controller...tell me thats not a sweet idea!

I can say that I will definately be getting a wii. I left console gaming after the snes and have been a pc gamer ever since. Nintendo has succeded in getting me interested in a console again. It just seems like a fun diversion from all the regular crap that is around these days. I want to try something new, and fun. I also want something that I can play with my girlfriend. She has refused to play pc games, and other console games because the controls are too complicated. As long as the wii controller is intuitive to pick up and use it will be easier to get her and others like her to give it a shot.

The features are neat and all, and maybe it sounds odd not to be hyped over them, but all I really want is the new Zelda and maybe some Mario Brothers. I want the new Nintendo, but it's mostly for the games.

Hmm... I was strangly compelled to fish in Zelda OOT, I wonder how the new controler would handle that.

Nintendo has been selling games and consoles for so long I dont see them going away even if the wii turns out to be a flop. Nintendo has always been geared towards young kids, and what do kids have more than anything else? energy! so this type of controller will be perfect for them.. Most older gamers will be spending their time on the higher end game platforms anyway...

I'm gong to reserve my judgement on the console until it comes out. It comes down to the library that comes with the console IMO.

Who said anything about Nintendo going away? Sega are now developing games only and I foresee Nintendo doing the same after Wii.

I don't see Nintendo developing software only, like Sega is. They have a stranglehold on the handheld market, so if they don't do well with the new console, they'll have that to fall back on.

The make a ton of money off of their handhelds, I'm pretty sure more money than Sony ever has off of a playstation.
