NieR Automata

After the first half of playthrough 1, I actually found the combat to be really easy throughout routes B and C. (playing on Normal difficulty)

For 9S, the best weapon seems to be the Spear of the Usurper - fast, has Critical+ and when fully upgraded, has Turncoat which will occasionally auto-subjugate an enemy when you hit them.

Get your plug-in chips to good levels of Weapon Attack +, Ranged Attack +, and Auto-Heal, and you're pretty much unstoppable. Combust is a good one for 9S, as well.

Even some of the later bosses of the game seemed like a cakewalk.

Oh, and I still never got enough resources to upgrade any of the 3 Pods, lol. I think I am a few Pure Waters short.

I'm not gonna lie. I'm seriously uncoordinated. I found the combat to be difficult right from the beginning. I had to go to "Easy" mode to get past Simone, and I just stayed there through the rest of the game. In all fairness, I turned off all of the Auto Combat chips (just leaving the auto-healing stuff). Still found several fights difficult with multiple reloads from death. This is also why I HATE the jumping segments of Mass Effect: Andromeda - I'm SO BAD at those. Please take the Mario out of my RPGs :)

Whereas I (for the most part) hate turn-based RPG combat, so this game was awesome for me.

Best thing to do is just spam Evade in this game if you get in a bind - you can also use an Evade Distance plug-in chip to help. Anti-Chain is a good one as well, as it prevents you from taking damage multiple times in a row, allowing you time to get out of a bad situation.

I am still on the 2nd playthrough and was getting cocky cause I was finding the combat really easy now, then I found:
the hidden boss Emil. I am level 54 and he wiped me out in 2 hits. I reloaded the save game to avoid the having to retrieve my body thing cause once you go try to retrieve it, you get locked in and have to beat him or lose all your chips. It was real annoying because I forgot to save after finishing a quest off before I found Boss Emil so I had to redo that quest.

^^ Yeah, I still need to go back and do that...though I am at level 62 or so.

Got all 5 of the "main" endings.

So I am going back through trying to 100% all quests...I can see how many I have left in each Chapter, but I went into one section where it said I was missing a quest, completed it, and then saved/quit, and it still shows as me having not completed it. If I go back into that section, the quest is there again.

Do you have to complete the entire chapter for it to tick? I don't really understand how the Chapter Select saving works.

Does this game have a strong story? Keep seeing this title pop up everywhere and I must say the art style looks nice. I assume this is best played with a controller?

Yes, and yes. Supposedly it's playable with a keyboard and mouse but I didn't bother - controller works great and that's clearly what it was designed for.

Yes, it has a very strong story. As far as KB&M are concerned... I personally could not play with controller. The controller itself (XBONE) worked fine, but I am not a controller person. The KB&M controls worked well for everything EXCEPT the hacking sequences - I switched to the controller for those as all but the simplest of them were unplayable on KB&M. The game lets you switch controllers on the fly - if you drop the KB&M and grab the controller or vice-versa, it seamlessly transitions between them with no fiddling.

The bigger issue with KB&M is that the in-game tutorial sequence doesn't do a great job of explaining the controls. For example, it says you need to hit L-SHIFT to fire (flying, or POD), but that is the crappiest way to do it. It's much easier to hold rt-mouse button and left click to start firing. It keeps firing as long as you hold down the rt-mouse button from that point on. It's real easy to start back up after using a heavy attack as well (heavy attacks require pressing the rt-button). I personally discovered the hard way that holding SPACE triggered a glide using your POD after jumping - nothing in game told me that, and there are a few jumps that require this. There are several examples of this kind of thing.

I'm leaning towards buying this thanks to good word of mouth, the modders... but ideally I'm going to probably wait for this patch to show up to feel better about this.
Well the good news is - stay away from any spoilers and this game will be waiting for you when you do get to it.

Other than issues brought on by unlocking the framerate, I think I had one instance where a dialogue text got stuck on the screen and I had to save and reload. Other than that, haven't had any issues with the game whatsoever technically.

I want to play this game but I am waiting for some patches to resolve issues such as the KB/M and Ultra Wide Resolution, and for the price to reach around $45.

I'm finally starting to regret my X34 purchase a full year later after all these games are coming out that won't freaking support it natively. SO ANNOYING!!!!!

Yeah I got an LG.

And blizzards reasoning for OW not supporting UWHD properly is just retarded.

I think my dream monitor today would be a 32inch, IPS, 120hz+, 1440p. Wish it existed.

I think your expectation is right, but it does make me chuckle to read it.

I want these developer changes! and I want to pay less for the product!

More like....I want proper 2017 support and I want it at a realistic price point.

Currently they are charging top shelf pricing for a non top shelf product.

I have to disagree with you there. It's been one of the best games I've played in half a decade personally and worth every penny. Even with it's minor faults. But then again I've played it on both a low and middle end system and it runs great. The only wacky thing is cut scenes jump to wacky frame rates so the transition is jarring, but it doesn't take away from the dynamic gameplay, astounding music (best complete score in a long long time), and pretty cool story.

I 100% respect your desire for the fixes, and 100% respect your desire for the discount. It was just funny to see those paired together.

I don't feel ripped off about it as a just released buyer. I'm also excited that Bayonetta and it's dirt cheap :)

Ah well, I am patient, I can wait...few weeks or months it will be $45 and it will have seen some patching by then as well.

I'm just gonna wait for the 4k 144hz Gsyncs and go for the gold I guess. This monitor is AMAZING for the games that work with it, but all the ports don't support it natively, which annoys the crap out of me. And 60hz TV's just don't do it for me, either.

I haven't had a single crash in this game. Using nVidia also.

That's why I think it has taken so long for the patch to come out. Some can't play 5 minutes to get through the first tutorial boss and some can complete the game multiple times without issue.

I haven't had a single crash in the game and now have all the major endings A-E with an Nvidia card. Personally I think it might be a memory issue and if you have 8GB or worse less you'd run into issues. The only minor thing I noticed is when I was alt tabbing between my browser and the game to find out where I could farm some materials I noticed the game started to slow down slightly after some time in some areas.

Got this game today and other than the resolution scaling issue (it was immediately noticeable due to the terrible look of the Steam overlay + in-game aliasing which I fixed using the FAR mod), I've been enjoying it and have not had any other problem at all.

Fun game for sure and well worth it. I love the mix of game play styles between the shooter and hack and slash elements.

I hate to repeat myself but, can anyone who has finished the game and gone back to finish other quests answer this?

I have not run into that particular error, but I never tried to 100% quests either (couldn't do racer - I am not that coordinated, couldn't do the parade escort either, and I HATE fishing in any game). Is it a particular quest that this happens to, or just quests in general?

I started trying to find the other quests I missed and I haven't run into that problem. I know I had to redo a quest I knew I did already but I don't think it's what you mentioned because I did that quest pretty early and probably then died and reloaded before I saved (pretty certain that's what happened because I didn't have the item in my inventory you were suppose to get). As far as how the chapter select works with the currently loaded save slot, it's basically, start at a chapter section, do the quest, quick save and then you can pick another chapter and from then on that should reflect that you completed the quest. I always use the "quick save" option so it uses the currently loaded save slot (top save file for me) that I am currently using. If you use the save option from the system menu you can save in any slot and the game should make that the current default slot to save in using "quick save", but maybe it doesn't switch automatically in some cases? Generally speaking if I don't use the system tab save option only quick save.

I haven't tried too many so far, given that the first couple tries did not work and I didn't want to waste my time. ;) One of the ones I tried was the Jackass "progressively fight harder enemies" quest near the Desert Camp.

Maybe I hit a bug, then, because I did that exact same thing. Load subsection of the chapter, go complete quest, quicksave (and probably normal save just to be sure), exit back to chapter select and the quest still showed as incomplete. I re-loaded that same section and sure enough, the quest showed up again.

I actually just did that quest yesterday, and I quick saved, then I checked the quest count and it updated so that 2B had 2/2 done so it looks like it registered it fine. Though I am curious if anyone knows why in a section of the game the shared quests doesn't equal the 2B+9S quest totals? I noticed it yesterday that in one chapter I had something like 2B 2/2, 9S 3/3 but shared quests was like 5/8 or some thing. I really thought the 2B + 9S quests = all the shared quests but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Couples of other questions about this game, if spoilers can be avoided.

Apparently there are a bunch of different endings. A few true, and a few "joke endings". Is it relatively straightforward to get a proper ending? And is there a good save system so we can go back and replay certain parts to get a different ending?

Are there quick/manual saves?

Is the game full of a bunch of Far Cry 3/4 style outposts; as in, repetitive tasks over and over again? Go there and do that 7 times to unlock this item type of fetch quests? I am hoping this will be similar in size/style to the recent Deus Ex games, which were open and had side missions, but all of which were unique.

Will a GTX 1070 with a 4670K at only 4GHZ be able to max this game out at 1440P res? 60 frame rates?

Considering giving this ago instead of ME:A, because of bugs and I have grown tired of the open style type of games which have a lot of collecting, running around and whatnot in the way of good story missions.

There are supposedly 26 (A-Z) and it is relatively easy to get the "joke endings" if you want to once you unlock the chapter select. The proper ending is very straight forward and you won't miss it. The save system has basically 3 slots, the quick save always save to the same slot you loaded when you continued the game. The system tab save option lets you save to any of the three slots you choose. You can only save when near an access point though. That said, you won't be able to do all quests in one play through and I don't want to spoil it too much but the first few endings you need to get through to unlock the "chapter select" option. That is how you will be able to get around that 3 save slot limit for completing quests. The game tracks every quest you do and it carries over to all play throughs. I was a bit taken back with the 3 save slot limit at first but now I can see it really works well with how they set up the game. You don't have to worry about missing a quest like in other games, you can always come back later and do them if you missed them. I think it's one of the best systems done in an open world title because you don't have to replay everything to get a quest finished you missed.

There are a few fedex quests and find these items for me quests, but I never really got bored of it during my time playing. It's a real mix of gaming types from bullet hell twin stick shooter, 3rd person action, RPG-ish leveling and upgrading, and a splash of puzzle solving. Then followed by a well put together narrative. When I got the first ending I was like "that's it? WTF", then followed by a "Oh wait there is more", "and there is even more". It's probably the one game that made me want to see all the main endings because they are technically not endings but more of part of the same main story. The only "endings" really is the final one, and the joke ones, but the main endings are actually the whole story. If you get ending A and never play again you will basically see only like half the story as the other main "endings" add to the story they are telling.

Your 1070 should be fine, It plays great on my 980Ti, 60FPS for the most part though I did run into areas where it would dip down as low as 48FPS, and the cut scenes are 30FPS. The only bad thing for me is my 16:10 screen the cut scenes are improperly displayed. They are 16:9 format and instead of showing it at 16:9 with black bars on top and bottom, it stretches it to full 16:10 and everything looks stretched tall.

Hardly ever dips to anything below 60 FPS on my 1070 at 1440p. Everything is maxed out as well except for AA since that does cause the frame rate to go into the lower 50s but the Ambient Occlusion option does enable a form of AA so it doesn't look all that bad with AA off.

As far as the endings...the first run of playthrough #3 I got the C ending, and then the next time I somehow got both D and E in the same run. I guess just how the endings are structured.

The rest are just various failures to complete objectives or going the wrong way (for example, at the start of playthrough #2, just run off instead of going to the objective...that will trigger a joke ending).
