NHL 10

I'd advise getting used to the default controls, as the classic controls really gimp you. Some tips are to hold down L2 or Left Trigger when shooting at loose pucks, otherwise you'll hit and draw a penalty. Otherwise I find the controls work pretty well. What were your issues with them exactly, other than them being different?

Unless they added a speed burst since 09, there isn't one. The only way to speed burst in 09 was when you had the puck on a break you could dump it a few strides infront of you to gain a bit of speed. Haven't verified if this is in 10 still.

I don't care if they gimp me, they are what I like and I will enjoy the game more with them than with this crazy new setup. I should be allowed to play the game with the control scheme that I actually like, not the control scheme the developers are telling me i should like.

I see a speed burst control option under the "default" control scheme but not under the "classic" or "custom" schemes. Is there really no way to have your character "sprint" (not even sure what you would call that on skates) or just haul ass for a couple seconds? I remember in the older games there was always a speed burst option that made you skate faster but loose agility and the ability to turn sharply.

Bottom line, is there any way to change the control scheme in the demo? Maybe I'm a spoiled PC gamer, but I don't think its that unreasonable to want to customize your control scheme.

There's no turbo or anything of the sort. The speed burst listed in the controls menu is up on the left analog stick, which makes you skate forward. The NHL2K series might still have a turbo button, but I haven't really paid attention to it this year since I'll be pretty much playing EASHL/Online Team Play the entire time. I don't think the 2k series has a comparable mode.

The reason I say it gimps you is because there are things that you can do with the new control scheme that just aren't possible with the classic controls. I know a guy last year who didn't like the new controls and swore by the classic controls. At least he did until he got online and realized how much was missing.

Also I'm not aware of any way to change the control scheme in the demo unfortunately.

ThisIsTheNewSound, you've got to get used to the new controls. There's no way around this if you intend to be an effective member of whatever team you plan on joining. At home with your buddies in the living room, NHL '94 controls might be good enough for you to squeak out some wins with but your style points will be in the negative range.

Speed burst is up on the skating stick (left analog), stick actions are done with the action stick (right analog). Modifiers are the R and L buttons. The new controls really aren't difficult, just take a few days and get accustomed to the hundreds of things you can now do as opposed to how limited NHL games were in 2003.

A bit of a rundown on the NHL 10 pro shop - http://features.teamxbox.com/xbox/2474/Exposed-NHL-10s-Hockey-Shop/p1/

Looks like they went the way of the Tiger Woods series... paying real money for upgrades, crazy looking equipment, etc. The worst part is that you need to get the crazy cammo/graffiti equipment if you want to max out your player, as the authentic equipment won't have as many boost slots.

Can't say that I'm happy with the path they have chosen.

Hrm... don't really like the looks of that junk. I suppose I understand why they can't say an Easton stick is better than a CCM stick but I dunno about this camo-helmet boosting.

We'll have to see how it plays out.

Ya, it's too early to judge how this will play out. If you can add a general boost pack to normal gear, or if there's a point cap that you can reach by getting a legend player card then that's fine. I just don't want to be forced to wear wacky gear just to be competitive.

It sucks that there won't be a level playing field on day 1 though, as I'm sure a lot of the hardcore people will end up buying the boost packs rather than earning them.

Wait pay to get better stats? wtf.

It's like the Tiger series. You can either unlock it in-game by completing certain tasks or pay to unlock it instantly. Not really happy with it myself, but we'll have to wait on the details.

unlock it in game? But as I remember it.. for a be a pro game.. you wouldn't be able to max out everything or something like that, so people just have early advantage?

Basically it's an early advantage, but it all depends on what's involved in unlocking the equipment. Some pieces may require you to score 3 goals in a game, while others may be something more involved like lead the league in scoring for a be a pro season.. it's too early to say at this point.

It appears that the player cards from last year are back as well. So if the bonuses from your player card and equipment stack, you may have to play up to 150 games online with a good ranking, plus unlock all the equipment via offline/online play before you'll have a 'complete' player.

The demo is up on the UK PSN if you have a european account. Not sure when it will be available for North America but it should be soon I would imagine.

I just played through the demo and was very impressed with the board play. Also, I liked the look of the one 'Hardcore' option in the pre-game menu.

Not like my purchase was hanging on the success of this demo, but I'm in even more anticipation now.

My only problem with the board play is that there is too much 'grab range' for lack of a better term. You can already be past someone but they somehow manage to grab your and throw you against the boards which I assume would be holding in real life. It changes the flow of the game which is good in my mind, so I'm looking forward to see how it will play online.

The demo was sweet, I liked what they did to the game. Must get!

i think that is something they could fine tune ! but i think its somthing they could fix in a patch

Ya i enjoy the EA patch system. It costs sixty bucks for a patch and it will take a year before they release this patch.

I'm going to guess that the grab distance can be adjusted with a slider.

Sliders are fine, but the defaults are what concern me as that's what we'll be using in EASHL. I suppose it could be using a different set of options though so we'll have to wait and see.

Hopefully league play is forced to Hardcore rules.

I think both levels of EASHL were confirmed by a dev to be normal rules, but I can't find an exact link. There's a large community push to change the Pro division to hardcore but I haven't heard of it happening yet.

Wow, they've already fixed one of the glitches found in the demo based on feedback from fans... too bad all EA dev teams don't have this much passion for their product:

http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/296791.page

I saw a video of the glitch in action and he was able to skate all around the ice untouched doing constant fake shots. It's good to see they patched it.

its because the devs are from canada and take hockey seriously

the exchange rate hurts your teams. All the big name players want to make most and usually the USA teams pay the big contracts or have the cash to pay them.

I'm almost positive the Canadian NHL teams have to pay their players in US dollars.

yea which means they bring in less than the US teams
becasuse everyone is paying canadien bills to go the games

ohhay guys =P 2 weeks =0 I havent touched 09 or [h] in so long haha how have you been?
