Nexus 6 speculation

5.2" is too small, in a world where every other flagship phone is at least 5.5". This is a Nexus, its designed to be cutting edge and compete with them, with some compromises made due to cost.

What? There is 1 flagship phone that is 5.5", maybe 2. Lg G3 and iPhone 6 plus. Gs5 is 5.1", M8 is 5", Z3 is 5.3". If you make the nexus 6 5.5" you will limit your already tiny market even more.

I really hope they do come out with a larger phone. I don't want to have to live in Samsung's world of menus and comic sans...

This 5.9" Nexus is supposed to have really small bezels, and the overall footprint will be no larger and no heavier than the iPhone 6 Plus, but while still having the larger display.

Rumor has it, if you can handle a iPhone 6 Plus, then this new Nexus will be just as easy and better due to the curved back.

At 5.5" and above you have
- Samsung Galaxy Note 4
- LG G3
- iPhone 6 Plus
- Huawei Ascend Mate 7
- OnePlus One
- Nokia Lumia 1520

It's not the mainstream market, yet, but Google does not intend the Nexus to be the mainstream device.

The Nexus line is intended for developers, so maybe they'll leave the 5 on the market. It will get Android L anyway. And a Nexus 6/X will be a reference for phablets.

i wouldn't label it a developers phone...wouldn't a developer test their apps on mainstream phones for compatibility instead? makes more sense to me.

No, because software devs need to be building software for current versions of Android, making use of newer APIs and being more efficient so that those mainstream phones won't break in that application when they get updated to the next Android revision.

Its best for developers because its pure android with no extra vendor or carrier crap installed. It also usually incorporates the modern hardware of other phones

Someone carved a Nexus 6 out of wood and compared against the Nexus 4 and 7

LOL this awesome

For one last illustration, you can see the phone in reference to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus with the Nexus 6 size calculated using the same method above. The small bezels help keep the overall size down, measuring in just a hair smaller than the iPhone 6 Plus.

if it is on verizon, has the amoled screen, and 3200mah battery i will buy it.

After seeing a mockup with a thin bezel, I'm definitely much more interested. Plus, I do have quite large hands. ;)

I hope it it really is not wider than the Note 3. That has been about the limit for me in ease of holding.

My Oneplus One is easier to hold one handed as it is narrower so I'm not sure if I want to go wider again but have bought and used all of the Nexus phones so I am a sucker for the Next Big Thing in the Nexus line.

Nexus 5 is an ideal size and if it had a better battery and camera would still be my daily driver.

Oneplus One is filling the gap very well until Nexus 6 is released.

Man Apples Bezels kill the 6 Plus. This thing being slightly smaller (thicker, but smaller on X and Y) is impressive.

My eyes aren't great, but it looks like shamu is wider than the 6+? Shorter, but wider?

Rumoured Size/ Comparison.

Yeah it does look wider, they can't shave much bezel off the sides.

PS: Google play is now out of 32gb Nexus5s' in black and white.

Thanks for the comparison picture. The Nexus 5 looks tiny now!

It has front facing speakers, a much bigger screen and is still smaller than iPhone 6+! Its about the same size as a Not 3/4, and those are perfectly manageable devices for a lot of people.

I predict this will be a big success.

That's not gonna happen. Even if it does, Verizon will load bloatware, block updates, lock the bootloader.

Remember the Galaxy Nexus betrayal people!

Nice screen to size ratio. iPhone 6+ and HTC One M8 are like inbred cousins for having frankenstein size and small screen.

Very well done video comparing Nexus 6 to other phones. Obviously, the Nexus 6 is based on a render but if it's really about the same size as the Note 3 and smaller than iPhone 6 Plus it would be very manageable.

If the Nexus 6 has the same physical footprint as the iPhone 6 Plus and Note 4, then I'm cool with that. And would prefer getting .4" more screen than the iPhone 6 Plus at the same overall size.

Not as I see it. None of the phones being shown next to the Nexus 6 have their brand and model name displayed for the viewer.

You can't figure out that the first is a Note 3, next S5, G3, etc? All of the phones are flagship phones and are identifiable based on appearance.

Read again that I wrote none of them have their model names displayed for the viewer. You just confirmed that by saying one has to rely on their appearance.

I realize what you are saying but most users here are phone geeks who know which phone is which. The audience here does not need "smartphone identification for dummies", IMO.

I didn't make the video just thought it was a good representation of how the Nexus 6 may compare in size to the current flagships.

Are you calling me and others who need to read their model names dummies? Rein in your sarcastic arrogance.

Those phones don't need names listed on the screen, it is obvious which models they are, the first second on the screen.

Ladies, calm down. We still have two weeks - 1 month before the release.

I'd say it's big, but not massive. I've carried my Nexus7 in my pocket when my phone has died before (that's too big). About an inch wider and taller than my current phone isn't going to make a massive difference. This is a price I'm willing to pay for a bigger display that is much better at web browsing and video.

The idea of a phablet is definitely growing on me..

I'll just buy the phone at full price if it's on Verizon. Aren't unlocked Nexus devices "affordable" compared to other phones?

Not at all. I did not think you would take it that way. Most users who frequent sites like [H] are way beyond the average consumer when it comes to technology. Most people just walk into their local carrier store and buy the latest iPhone or Samsung on contract or Next type plan.

The users here are much more knowledgeable and actually review and discuss technology before blindly upgrading.

Similar to PC component parts. We are a minority in the grand scheme of consumers that enjoy learning all of the nitty gritty details and sharing that amongst members.

There was no offense intended or implied.

I am sorry if you took it that way.

If history repeats itself then yes, by a considerable margin. The N5 started at $350 when it came out if I remember right. That is dirt cheap compared to what other manufactures charge for a unlocked phone with no carrier subsidy.
