Next Gen Nvidia 2nd half 2011

You know what we need most? The GAMES, bring on Lost Planet 2, bring on Crysis 2, bring on that gotta have game that will make my video card cry!

Lost Planet 2, not heard too many people mention that one but I'm definitely picking that one up, and it's 3D ready to boot!

Where did you see that about using them for 28nm? And shouldn't it be GloFo? What's the extra L for, Floundries?

A funny Nvidia fan nice!

Gloflo is a name I stole from another forum. Sounds much cooler. The 28nm part was from look at several articles over time also it is obvious that they would use them anyway after TSMCs failures and AMD owns a stake in Gloflo still.

Trust me they would not invest the mega millions they did for the 28nm line just to make ARM cores.

And this is what it's all about. If nVidia can actually deliver on this why the hell complain?

Why the excitement? Nvidia says in a slide that they will deliver 3-4 more DP performance per watt in their next GPU. The GTX480 only uses 25% of the Fermi DP capacity. The rest is disabled (probably not to compete with their pro line). As explained earlier in this thread by someone else, DP isn't used in games at all.

The only thing I read here, is that Nvidia will have a new processor on 28nm next year (D'oh!?!). Going from 40nm to 28nm, I would expect some increase in performance to wattage in any case.

I would be more interested what Nvidia has hidden in their pockets to compete with the AMD 6000 series up to then! :D

GTX475 and/or GTX485 or perhaps also a GTX495?

Aren't they going to use those fabs for Bulldozer, or whatever the codename is for the upcoming CPU?

That is 32nm a full node NOT 28nm which is completely different. Modern CPUs require more layers and such that do not allow them to be made on half nodes in normal circumstances.

Bulldozer is 32nm Perhaps Bulldozer II or whatever the hell it is called will be on Gloflo's 22nm process but not 28nm

I'm still not biting on the term "gloflo." It doesn't make sense.

But it does make me chuckle, so it's not completely useless.

If Global Foundries is able to deliver superior quality at prices competitive to TSMC, here's a factor worth considering: Global Foundries is now an independent entity. NVidia is a fabless maker. NVidia is free to make use of GF's facilities to produce its silicon. If GF were to refuse the contract without some VERY good reasons ("we only do business with AMD" would not be such a reason) they could find themselves in a lot of legal trouble. Therefore, using GF for silicon is not an automatic edge for AMD.

This is an interesting idea that would Nvidia even consider global foundaries for the GPUs? i'm sure there is still plenty of crosstalk between GF and AMD, even though they are seperate.

If I were Nvidia i'd have to really trust that Global Foundaries crosstalk wouldn't give anything away to AMD. Even though it would be a epic lawsuit if it did happen there is just a lot at stake when it comes to intelectual property etc.

kindof like the Lady who stole the Recipe for Coke and offered to sell it to pepsi, pepsi being smart enough turned her in and refused (did they really?) to even look at it.

Lowered prices because of the competitions unreleased and UNPRICED next gen product TWO months out? Don't think so. Without price and performance data how would they even know HOW to adjust prices? Maybe you can predict the future, we mere mortals can't.;)

You have no idea what you're talking about, and have clearly not taken a simple economics 101 course.

When a consumer knows that a product is EOL or another product is coming out soon to replace it, they won't buy the old product. With the lower demand, the company is forced to lower the price to sell more of the product.

It happens all the time. A perfect example is when Windows 7 was about to be released, and last summer, PC sales were down. Microsoft had to start that program were you would buy a machine with Vista, but they gave you a coupon to upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as it came out, and then PC sales started to rise again.

So, please, don't make claims about something that you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Gloflo is taking Nvidia in already with Tegra 3 apparantly. They wont deny Nvidia.

However it seems that Nvidia is enjoying perks of being the prime and loyal TSMC customer right now. I doubt they will fully leave TSMC without good reason. Also remember that GloFlo is really focusing 28nm on winning ARM runs. TSMC is far less concerned about it compared to their other duties.

Also it is VERY important to note that process nodes on competing fabs are VERY different. Nvidia cant just say "Frak it lets go GloFlo" And just show up with a card design. And even if they decided to go with it in time it would be EXTREMELY ill responsible.

AMD knows Gloflo as its fabs were once... It.. It knows the engineers knows the plans owns the stock it is in a far better position to bet on the 28nm process than Nvidia going in.

But overall No Gloflo will never deny a customer as jucy as Nvidia.

*WAS* supposed to be but turned out to just be a similar process as 5xxx and more akin to a refreshed lineup because TSMC screwed up yet again.

When will AMD move to Global Foundries? TSMC is dragging both red and green down.

Do you have anything to back that up? All the latest rumors point to the 6xxx series being Northern Islands, complete with a new architecture.

It is not completely new arch it is a hybrid of tech meant for 28nm and existing 40nm tech. Focus seems to be on memory and tessellation.

Rumors are AMD wanted to go 32nm for it but both TSMC and Gloflo canceled their 32nm Graphics nodes (Gloflos 32nm process for CPUs is completely different) So TSMC gets one more AMD line to fab. May it be its last.

You mean that silly rumor that says the 5850 will beat a 6870? Ya pardon me while I laugh at that.

I'm still not biting on the term "gloflo." It doesn't make sense.

Same here, Gloflo just doesn't work. GloFo makes sense and people will be able to figure out what it means. I'm going to bet the extra "L" in GloFlo was a typo.

Can we keep the way off topic foolishness down? If you don't like what I call them feel free to go to another topic.

I hope that info is correct, because that would be great news. The first 6XXX according to this article, would replace the 5770. So, that means a 6xxx version of 5770 would beat a GTX460.

Saw another page that says something like that. But people keep taking it as if it means that 6850 = 5850 or some other foolishness.

The 460 is going to be hard to beat tho. With prices low despite the die size likely killing them on yield rates. AMD must focus on holding onto the 5770 and lower range crown of value.

If I were to hazard a guess the goal is to force Nvidia into 28nm sooner than they are ready. So if Gloflo's 28nm gets delayed AMD gets to respond with a card that tears up Nvidias next gen. AMD cant seriously let Nvidia get into the lead again. Another 8800 type king of win could devastate AMD in short order.

If it bugs you the other forum members don't like it, perhaps you should stop using it.

As far as posting on topic... there really isn't much to talk about. The only thing going on here is speculation and flaming. Soon, we will have more information. Until then, it looks like we'll simply debate the validity of JoePoster's sources and how incorrect said poster's opinion is. Until we have solid data, I will continue to entertain myself despite your attempts to rain on my parade.

I got it on PS3 quite a while ago... because it was the monster hunter wii stole... Infact I got a ps3 becuase I wanted the next monster hunter. I don't know why it took them so long to get it out on PC otherwise I would have got it. When it's cheap enough i'll get it again. But the point it came out on PS3 5 months ago, doesn't help it's uptake probably.

It was the addition of DX11 and also the fact that due to piracy Capcom doesn't trust the PC market anymore (rightfully so since their SF IV experience)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLau8evatbc =>i know that the system is even slower because of all the recording deal but dayumn DX11 high can put out the hurt :p

The latest rumor posted says the first 6xxx will be about 5850 performance.
http://www.nordichardware.com/news/...ts-launches-in-october-as-radeon-hd-6800.html

Which would put it in competition for the GTX460. Which would be pretty sad.

It's common knowledge that AMD is release the low-mid lineup first.

I mean, according to leaks the first 6xxx part looks like this! If that's the 5770-range replacement, that's pretty insane for what they've been able to reduce it to.

I can't imagine pulling the 5770's performance with passive cooling on a heatsink that small... but if they do... :worship:
