Newegg using DHL Now!

your post is almost a duplicate of mine (#1). the 3 day free ship is still ups, but the 5 to 7 day is dhl to usps. but since dhl is out of biz in the usa, it will possibly go back to the 3 day free for all free shipping. i hope.

DHL is still delivering domestically until late January for companies that have DHL accounts. The services may be offered indefinitely beyond that using USPS.

frak, I was just about to buy a HDTV from them (over 1000 USD) but the fact that it may take much longer drives me to just not wait and go to a local retailer...

plust I don't want any of my stuff being handled by dhl

I've been ordering from the Egg since the Tbird days, In fact I think the first order I placed was for a mobo, tbird 900, and a Radeon 3200... I live in NC and back then it was just the warehouse in Cali, and it was always 3 days shipping, in fact I could place a order before 3pm our time Monday and have the stuff on hand Weneseday afternnoons...

Anyway, so last Friday I ordered a mobo, processor, 4gigs of memory and a drive, and it came UPS two days ago. After placing the order, I decided that since I was using x64 that I may as well upgrade to 8gig of ram as it was so cheap with "free shipping" and placed another order... it went DHL, for the tracking number did not even work until yesterday, and now I see that the package shipped from TN, then went to KY, then went down south of Atlanta... basically a big triangle to the west of me... At least they handed it off to the USPS in Atlanta... but I won't see that ram until sometime next week.

I need to find a cheap etailer that uses UPS a day away that isn't in my state.

Boy could I tell you all stories about DHL. I worked for an Independent Contractor for DHL for almost five years, I was there when DHL took over Airborne Express as a dock worker. When I finally parted ways with the IC about eight months ago, I had been the Training Manager for three months for a small fleet of about 30 people.

You people who say DHL is lousy and crappy are right, the service has been going downhill for ages...but please keep the comments about actual delivery couriers to a respectable nature eh?

While there are always some bad eggs in any group, the couriers working for DHL through the IC are getting some extremely impossible timetables to adhere to, with no incentive past the paycheck to complete them.

Power at DHL kinda went like this:

DHL Exec's e-mail a District Manager regulations > who e-mail the Station Manager > who in turn e-mails the IC Owner or directly relays it to the Owner. These regulations were it, and all communication was DOWNHILL. There was no discussion, negotiating or changing the rules unless **something major** happened that warranted an Exec to care enough to look into it. No feedback, no constructive criticism, no teamwork.

A driver could be expected to deliver a 10:30 shipment to a service area that is over an hour away, with a late plane hence leaving the building at 9:30. You do the math. And multiple that one shipment by 10 or twenty. Completely unreasonable expectation. What's that, the IC should have standby drivers / floaters to help in these situations? You are right! But the IC wasn't paid enough to have said people on hand for these situations, and even though the late plane was in no way the IC's fault or responsibility, it was still their problem and DHL was of no help. ;) Sometimes, an actual DHL employee at a station would be more than willing to help but they would not be allowed for whatever the reason. It was silly, a clear case of when someone is making the decisions but doesn't know what is going on in the real world!

That is just a small example of the problem with DHL, and again...I am not saying every driver did 100% all the time, but a lot of drivers were doing the best they could given their circumstances!

I really feel for my IC and his employee's, I still talk with him regularly and he has no clue what he is going to do and is so distraught about having no say in any of this, you know?

I ordered some memory from Newegg, had free shipping and I guess DHL is in charge of the package.

They gave me a tracking number that I've had for 30+ hours now and it still says invalid when I go to check it.

I can promise anyone reading this without a shadow of a doubt, if there is one tiny single problem with DHL and me getting my memory when I know I should get my memory having dealt with Newegg for well over $30,000 in orders the last 5 - 6 years. It's gonna be game over.

I've never had a problem with Newegg and I just don't care, I'm not about to start dealing with any bs period, not now.

I could care less how hard the job is, if you can do it, do it, if you can't, let me know.

I have a Microcenter near me and the prices are getting very close if not better than Neweggs at times. I will start paying tax if that means I don't have to deal with a company getting cheap on me or a carrier unable to do their job.

So far, I have a bad feeling about this.

Newegg doesnt use DHL anymore. Noone does for domestic stuff since DHL only does international now..... UPS/USPS handles Newegg's 'egg saver' now.

DHL is absolutely horrible in my area. The last DHL delivery had 4 failed attempts to deliver the package to my post office so they could deliver it to me.

My friend got a good picture one winter day. He walked outside and a DHL truck was laying on it's side in front of his driveway. Sorry, I don't have the picture though.

Actually, that's not quite true. ;)

DHL still does a very select clientele of domestic shippers within the United States.

I don't believe NewEgg is on the list, but I haven't seen the list myself only had a few names thrown in during idle conversation.

This is no different than UPS or FedEx in some cases. I will be the first in line to bash DHL, even as an ex-employee of a contractor who worked for them, but you gotta be fair in your complaints. This time lag between when you get your tracking number and it enters the system could be for a number of reasons from either the shipping or the carrier.

For whom exactly? DHL Customer service isn't really..wait, who am I kiddin, HAS NEVER BEEN what it should have been to begin with. A large percentage didn't care before, and the small group that is left is more than likely based overseas. They certain't won't care now!

I could care less how hard the job is, if you can do it, do it, if you can't, let me know.

Can't agree with you more here, but you know how it is. Always a bad apple or two in ANY work environment. Delivery couriers get a bad rap very often and sometimes it's not warranted for their what customer thinks was a problem. Other times, it is.

So far though, you simply don't have visibility on your shipment. While frustrating, it isn't a problem until it isn't delivered by the date your shipper told you.

.....or it gets run over by a forklift. :D Good luck!!

Sorry but newegg still uses dhl, I received a dhl usps delivery this week, which took about three times as long as my ups shipments that week and arrived stuffed in my mailbox in an unpadded envelope, kinda pisses me off. And don't get me started on fedex I've bought too much stuff off of woot to think there anywhere near as quick as ups, current fed ex order is estimated to take a full 8 days after it was processed

I just ordered some MicroSD cards on monday and they shipped out via DHL... The tracking info took over 24 hours to come up once the status said shipped (including the # being invalid at DHL's site).

Thankfully it's been tendered to USPS, and it's in my town, so I'm hoping that I get them tomorrow, along with my HTC Fuze. :p I'm a bit disappointed though, usually the free shipping for me was 3-day UPS and since I live so close to the NJ warehouse I would get packages in a day.

I ordered UT3 on wednesday at 10am at newegg. I picked free shipping. Whenever they ship from the NJ warehouse, I get it the next day or LATEST, the day after the next day. I live in Queens NYC, so I am not that far from it. My package went DHL and I was life WTF mate? I then saw this thread and hoped I wouldn't have to deal with crap. Well, it's friday at noon at no package. Tracking info is as follows:

2/27/2009 4:58 AM ET BRENTWOOD, NY, US ARRIVAL DESTINATION DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY
2/26/2009 8:40 AM ET RUTHERFORD, NJ, US DEPARTURE ORIGIN DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY
2/25/2009 7:45 PM ET RUTHERFORD, NJ, US PROCESSED
2/25/2009 5:03 PM ET RUTHERFORD, NJ, US ARRIVAL ORIGIN DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY
2/25/2009 4:55 PM ET EDISON, NJ, US PICK UP

So basically, they shipped it a hour PAST my house in Long Island and it arrived at 5am. I am guessing that I won't see this package until monday or tuesday. That really blows. DHL sucks.

Just for comparison, here is UPS delivering from NJ to me.
12/09/2008 16:59:00 DELIVERED[D] MASPETH, NY, US MET CUST WOM
12/09/2008 05:32:00 OUT FOR DELIVERY MASPETH, NY, US

UPS gets it to me in a DAY! (singular)

I feel for you Beezlebub...Not too long ago, I ordered a package with egg saver (5-7 day shipping) and it was through DHL. Newegg notified me that the package was shipped the same day, however, I received it before I had any status on the tracking number.

What happened was that Newegg said they shipped it on day 1, tracking showed that DHL actually picked it up from Newegg on day 6 and was here late on day 7.

Guess I could add my story using the egg saver crap shipping.

Took me 24 days to get a flash drive. DHL actually did its job just fine and delivered it to the USPS facility in a few days, where it proceeded to sit there for weeks

bad story, I know

The only thing I had from DHL went from Edison NJ to Lousville Kentucky to Des Moins Iowa to Pittsburgh PA before finally being handed over to USPS for delivery in Johnstown PA (90m east of pittsburgh)

LOL

Newegg shipped a couple of 8GB drives on Monday, from less than 50 miles away. I still haven't received it yet. I hate DHL.

DHL does blow! Newegg is a great company, but if they continue to use DHL for Free Shipping I might look elsewhere in the future! I ordered a copy of Wii Motion Resort Sports last Friday, usually I would get it next day from UPS. oday is Friday & it says I'll receive my order on Tuesday. DHL blows!!!

Newegg doesnt use DHL anymore.

Apparently they are using DHL again... :(

90% of items I order from NewEgg ship from NJ... about a 6 hour drive from here.
UPS typically delivers those items the next day, even if I order late in the day.

I ordered two items this week. Both were shipped DHL.
The first item took 3 days just to clear NJ. I mean, WTF??
Today it hit MA... but instead of sitting in my hands, it's merely been handed off to USPS.
Lets see how much longer till I get a package.

The other item is one of the 10% not shipped from NJ.
It's currently sitting in DHL GLOBAL MAIL FACILITY in CA.

Good thing I'm not in a hurry for either item. :p

I'm having the same trouble with Newegg now that they've switched to DHL. I actually live about 3 miles from the Newegg warehouse in NJ. Free shipping used to mean next day shipping. Now, DHL picks it up, takes it to newark, ships it to some other state, sorts it, ships it back to newark, then gives it to usps, who then takes another day. It is now a 5 day process. So stupid when I could just go and knock on the door at Newegg and pick it up.

They just sent me an email about how I am eligible for a new shipping option where a truck that they own (or maybe some other third party) will take an item and deliver it to me by hand, same day. That's all well and good, but simple customer pickup would be so much easier!

I got a similar e-mail about that too (I also live around 3 miles from the NJ warehouse), apparently they use Dynamex for that local express stuff. What I'm wondering is, how do you select that as a delivery option? and does it cost a lot more than their other shipping options?

On another note... fast UPS shipping, often free, is one of the primary reasons I shop NewEgg first.
It gave the Egg a definite advantage over TigerDirect, Fry's, ZZZ, etc.

If I have to wait for DHL, or pay for faster shipping, I will certainly be shopping around a lot more.

sounds like they are trying to compete with Amazon's same day delivery service option which launched a few months back...and yes it does cost more

I think Newegg is not aware that DHL no longer ships packages domestically, that is why it is sitting a DHL sorting center.

I had packages from UPS delivered with a DHL truck. Perhaps UPS is taking over?

Wait ya'all are complaining about something that is free? Give me a break, pony up the extra money and pay for shipping! When you pay for something you have the right to complain about it.

I live about an hour drive from Newegg's NJ warehouse, along the NJ shore. The last time I ordered from them and it was shipped DHL, it took 6 days to be delivered. When I called DHL to ask what the hell was taking so long, they said it was a "7 day delivery" guarantee, and they would hold it in the warehouse until it would take 7 days to deliver, and sure enough, they held it for 5 days then handed it off to be delivered by USPS. It's just asinine how poorly run DHL is, and it doesn't even make sense why Newegg would use them to literally hold the packages, then hand them off to be delivered by USPS.

That being said, I ordered from Newegg yesterday, chose 3 day UPS shipping, and it's on the truck being delivered today. Just plain silly.

Edit: A great DHL story, and so fitting for this thread: About 3 years ago, I was living in a historical high rise apartment building in Philly. 24 hour doorman service, by the way. Well, I ordered a 300GB drive from Staples, and i was promised next day delivery. I was waiting all day for the package, so I could deliver a system to a customer as an emergency rush, and when I went to track the package, it said "Business closed, could not deliver". Needless to say, I called DHL to complain, and they insisted that my home was actually an office building, and the driver tried four times to deliver my package. I can be loud at times, but I could not stress just how much fury and bile was flowing through the phone that night. It was delivered later than night at 8pm, and the driver never even said that he was sorry. Hated them ever since.

The cost of shipping is built into the sale of the product. Nothing is free.

If you don't want it to ship DHL, make sure when the shipping options are given that you don't select Egg Saver. Also, this is only for light items. If you add a few more free shipping items to the cart it will ship UPS 3 day instead.

DHL is only a a subcontractor for domestic... when USPS cannot keep up they subcontract to DHL....

interesting....

Seems to me that Newegg is switching their focus to making money at any cost versus customer service and keeping people happy. I've ordered probably around 10 grand worth of stuff from them in the last 10 years, maybe a little more. But I have to say that in the last two years I have ordered less and been much less happy with their deals, customer service related to problems with products (they passed me off to the mfg first email I sent them), and I feel that they focus too much on a lot of frivolous things like twitter/facebook/whatever services instead of maintaining their service levels of the past. If long shipping delays and potential shipping problems are another thing to add to the list, I just can't see them ever correcting this new path they've taken. Sure times are tough, but I can totally see why people are buying elsewhere. I mean if you can't rely on good customer service, good shipping and packaging...all you got left is price and they don't have those like they used to even though their twitter/facebook/whatever activity would have you believe they do nothing but sit around lowering prices to rock bottom....because hey they got employees doing video blogs about it!

The funny thing is that generally when they post stuff on facebook or whatever it gets shot down by all the people who know that it's not a deal.

The other day I ordered some RAM and they shipped it DHL, now I know what everyone is talking about. At least when I had to RMA it newegg was nice enough to pay for UPS ground for me to return it.

Yeah, deliberately holding packages to force you to more expensive shipping for prompt delivery is really pathetic. And its something I've noticed too. Tracking packages online and seeing them sit in local warehouses.

It isn't just DHL, but not that its been brought up, I think they've all been newegg deliveries.

For a few other reasons I've been buying more and more elsewhere like Amazon. If Amazon's site wasn't such a hard to navigate hodge podge, newegg would get almost none of my business.

Thats why I search and browse on Newegg and then buy from Amazon a lot.
