1. I'd use it as the heart of a computer I've been working hard to build for my mom's Christmas present. She's never had a real computer before, and I've been pinching pennies to save up some cash to put towards a nice am2 rig for her. I had thought about buying some old parts and building a socket A rig for cheap, but I think I'd rather go new because she deserves a brand new computer.
1) I'd put a Nebraska Cornhuskers sticker on it and throw it at those bastard Longhorns the next time they clean up in Lincoln. But it would really be my old socket 939 CPU in disguise, the 5k would get slapped on the nearest mobo whether the pins fit or not. And I'd probably keep the socket 939 anyway and just resent the Longhorns really hard. And then I would fold the fuck out of both of them in gratitude.
First of all, Thanks for [H]ard|Forum to making my online computer purchases easier than ever.
1.) What would you do if you won an AMD Athlon X2 5000+ Black Edition CPU?
If I won the AMD Athlon X2 5000+ Black Edition CPU I would be astonished to know my reality of being a college student on a budget could finally have hope. I have a mid-range computer right now and really want to enjoy myself by going to local parties to compete in computer gaming competitions. For the computer I have now, I can run older games but the latest and greatest video games are where it's at. I have planned for about three months now to rebuild this computer but the constant hassle of bills makes my purchases come to a standstill. I have lined up AMD parts and accessories for my new computer but I just can't seem to keep enough spare money to purchase these parts. If I was to win the CPU, I would immeditally purchase the rest of the computer because I would be within the cost limit and could afford it. With the new computer, I will be able to participate at www.eastcoastlan.com's Winter Lan event at Virgina Beach. While there, I can show off the new computer as well as represent Hardforum as being one of the best forums for computer information online!
2.) What is the name of the new AMD next-generation desktop processor?
The newest addition to AMD's processors is the Phenom. The newest processor will hit the ground rolling quick as the price is really reasonable and AMD has never let us down yet. Continue to use AMD equipment, and ensure [H]ard|forum brings you good news on the latest they offer.
I would upgrade my X2 4800 from AGP MB to new PCIe MB and Video Card. Still stuck in AGP (6600GT).
Phenom (But it needs new catchy name). This sounds like something U do when sick . Cough Cough, Phenom is green when I .....
1. If I obtained an Athlon X2 5000+ processor the first thing I would do is sell it. After selling it I'd take the money I earned and invest it over a small range of highly aggressive oil exploration company investments internationally. I wouldn't touch the money for a year. In this time I'd expect my profit to expand drastically, at which point I be able to buy myself a now one year old AMD Athlon X2 5000+ as well as all the remaining peripherals necessary to build an entire computer. I'd take this computer oversease along with the remaining money available to me and hire 15 Indian grad students and start a biochem research firm. I'd pay them handsomely and we'd all share the same computer for our research building momentum from venture capitolists in the US by describing our different research plans and discoveries. Over the course of a year while studying and finding cures for most of the worlds known diseases we would quite accidentally stumble upon a biochemical algeal reaction that created a vast amount of energy output requiring only the synthesis of the sun and algea and salt gleaned from desalinization plants which we were powering to provide water to everyone in need of it. Basically we solve all the worlds problems in a matter of 2 years time, and guarantee a healthy peaceful resource filled existence for the rest of humanity for eons to come. Atleast, I'm pretty sure that's how it'd happen.
1. I would finally be able to put my AMD 3000+ XP to rest with a proper send off; and be able to do things like open more than one spreadsheet, watch those new fangled things called DVDs, and even see photos, or so people tell me, plus play games that are supposed to be way cooler than this solitaire game I have been playing for so many years now. Shoot, I lost again, New Deal.
2. Phenom is the next name for the K10 architecture platform PX2 & PX4 (dual and quad core respectively)
1. I'd finally have a dual core processor instead of a single core and get more work done in half the time, not to mention finally being able to ditch DDR ram and AGP graphics cards.
2. Phenom and I hope its competitive with Intel for competition's sake and the benefit of all of us.
1. Mix it up in a bowl of muesli and eat it. If it was a bit tough to eat then I might just make a necklace out of it. Who knows, maybe I could start a fashion trend. Nerd bling anyone?
1. I'd stick it in immediately, and use my X2 3800 to finally upgrade my grandmother's godawful pre-DDR 1700+. Of course, she doesn't mind it but it drives me crazy.
1) I would swap in the CPU for my AMD X2 3800+, a significant boost for both my gaming fun and my occaisional video encoding. The 3800+ might then be used in a HTPC (if paired with the right graphics card) or a new computer for a family member.
1.) I'd throw it in this MSI K9A Platinum I have sitting on my desk and see if it can clock higher than the 5000+ B.E. I Have installed in my other K9A.
