New NVIDIA App Officially Released

I've installed it, the Control Panel page seems the same. The Geforce Experience is now the GeForce App.

Is the control panel portion a separate install?

Currently, if you install Nvidia drivers fresh you get the standard Nvidia Control Panel (and GFE if you select to install it).

The new Nvidia app is in Beta and if you install it will replace GFE entirely and bring in most of the things you interact with most often from the NVCP but most importantly, for now, not all of them. They've made it abundently clear that many more things are still to be brought over from NVCP as this Beta progresses but the end goal is to combine the useful bit of both applications into one, akin to Adrenaline control panel for AMD.

No.

The functionality of both apps (Control Panel + GFE) is eventually going to be all in this one app, but at the moment, while the app is basically feature complete to supplant GFE, the control panel stuff is still being added in, and that's why you can still access the classic one, in case you need to change something that isn't avaialble yet in the App.

So this is replacing GeForce Experience only? So those of us who don't use GFE and still wish to use nVidia Control Panel can continue to do so?

EDIT: It helps if I actually read the article:
  • "Users who don't need the app can skip it, as they’ll still be notified about new drivers through other channels."
  • "NVIDIA isn’t sunsetting the Control Panel, as the official blog post doesn’t mention any changes to it. It seems the company will take time to fully integrate Control Panel features, so users can run both programs simultaneously for now."

Seems like all of the settings I actually change (Gsync, Color Range, Max FPS, Low Latency, Shader Cache Size, etc.) are all there in the app now. Essentially I can move on from the old app if I feel like it.
I feel like the old app is probably a hair easier to use, although some of that is because I've been using it for like 20 years.

Hopefully sooner rather than later. That ancient thing isn't doing anyone any favors and at this point, anything I'd need to do in it can be done faster in the new app. So lightweight, so snappy. I just cringe thinking about hitting Apply in the old control panel and the whole window just refreshing like its from 1998.
 
Why do I have a bad feeling this is just going to be a skin change with advertisements and microtransactions?
 
Ugh, another form of bloatwares. I'm glad all I do is install my drivers and that's that.
 
It operates to me like someone there really wanted to make a lightweight, snappy app with the things people use most often able to be more quickly adjusted. My biggest complaints were the RTX HDR being limited to a single monitor the overlay being ugly as hell, both of which they've resolved. Well, the overlay has some customization now which is nice but could still be better.
 
I don't necessarily like the UI, but it's quick and everything is there. I'd venture most people need to change at least something within their driver settings, so an app like this is necessary.
 
Anyone know how to adjust RTX HDR globally? In the global settings I'm only seeing on or off, and with it set to on I can't adjust any settings from the app, still have to do it on a per game basis using Alt + F3. Would be nice to just set it in the app and forget about it.
 
I never used the beta but the app updated today and I also installed the nov 12th driver update (fixes iCue stuffs) ... I am liking the new app a lot so far (previously I was using Gerforce Experience only). I am running an automatic tuning scan now.. I am not planning on running the "tune" all the time but am curious what it comes up with.. the scan is taking a while, 10 mins so far!

EDIT: the scan took about 25 mins wow.. I guess it was being thorough. I got

GPU tuning +144 mhz | VRAM tuning +200 mhz

I'll take this for a spin for a bit I reckon. If things glitch out I'll just disable it.

EDIT: I had to disable the "tune" as it was causing massive stuttering in STALKER 2... once disabled it was smooth as can be.

You can't. It's one of the complaints on the GeForce forums right now.

Finally updated from GFE to the APP (drivers somewhat try to make you). Figured, why not.... only downside was it took like 15 minutes for the drivers to install, have not seen that issue before, got stuck for a while in the "remove previous nvcontainer version" stuff.

Outside that, I like the new app so far, it is much quicker than GFE and easy to navigate and find settings. NCP is still there too if you really need it for now.

All it really needs is to present more legibily at higher resolutions. It doesn’t scale or enlarge to fill a window. I have to squint in 4K. Fortunately, I know it from memory and I swear it has looked like this since maybe windows 98.

I would only be in favor of changing it if you did not give up ANY functionality.

I have 2 retro PCs... one running windows 98se, the other windows XP. Can confirm, it looks the same back then too.... LOL
 
I'm all for "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" - too many things get all fudged up because someone wanted a promotion. (cough, 42 thousand ways of doing the same freaking OS tasks in windows, cough)
 
Ok so the latest drivers have the app built in and is supposed to replace the control panel but now every time I start my pc I get a message saying the nvidia control panel is not installed.

It replaces GFE, and is still missing some functionality that the NVCP has. Eventually NV will replace the NVCP with the new App. Eventually.

Then why didn't the control panel get installed automatically like it always has on ever other driver install?

Because it hasn't done that since Nvidia branched off the NVCP install to windows via the windows store (on the back end)? Pretty sure that was a couple of years ago when Nvidia added the DCH version of their drivers (vs the Standard driver which did have the NVCP installed along side the driver, which is no longer offered IIRC).

I have always installed every single nvidia driver and not one single time did I have to manually go get the control panel.

Probably because you did it one time (Nvidia control panel icon click, then installation happened seamlessly via the Windows Store) and then always installed new drivers over the old, and didn't clean install them after using DDU.

Regardless, you can always open a support ticket with Nvidia, who will likely direct you to take it up with Microsoft. Best of luck to you.
 
Made me realize I can uninstall NVCP finally. Thats fantastic, actually. There is nothing still in that ancient software I need anymore.

The POS app cant even figure out what games I am playing recently. Not a single game I played today or even this week shows up. Even when I sort it by recent games played it throws up shit I have not played for months or years. On the last driver the stupid app would just put a new entry for the same game over and over every time I played something. This thing was not ready to come out of beta if it cant even get simple things like that right.

Make sure the folders it scans for games carried over from GFE and then do a manual scan.

The game list in mine is as expected, everything I have installed seemingly sorted by what I've played recently. Naturally, if you're not a regular DDU user I can see things getting mucked up.
