new Logitech Revolution hyper fast scroll mice!

What an uncomfortable looking and pointless mouse...how is this better than grabbing the scroll bar and using that to get where you want to go? Imagine trying to scroll half-way through a 50+ page paper with that thing, by the time the scroll bar got to that point, the page would scroll all the way to the bottom once you've stopped spinning the wheel.

Pointless.

:p

If you open up any mouse with a scroll wheel you can take out the piece of metal that causes it to click so that the wheel with spin freely.

This is true.

I am using the MX Revolution right now. It is very comfortable and I am enjoying it so far.

Cool I guess? You can just edit how much of the page scrolls via software...Hows the weight on this thing? If it performs as well and weighs as much as the G7 its worth thinking about purchasing.

wow their pdf is pretty entertaining!

"Though significantly heavier than other scroll wheels, the difference in use is undetectable, thanks to the upward counterbalancing force applied by the suspension system."

"Logitech engineers crafted a 14-gram machined alloy wheel, almost exactly the same weight as two one-euro coins or three U.S. nickel coins."

Wouldn't that kinda suck for gaming? Try to switch weapons with the scroll wheel and it flies right by the one you want.
yeah I used a ms intellimouse 4 for a while and it sucked for this reason. scrolling through docs was great with a non clicking scroll wheel, but trying to get the weapon I want is a pain

You can have the normail clicking wheel or the free wheel, the reviews i read say that its app specific or there is also a switch on the unit that can switch between normal and free spin modes

Dan_D can you confirm that?

I'm really intersted in this mouse, but the one thing that I read that really concerns me is that middle-clicking, by default, toggles between clicky and free-spin mode. I hope that behavior can be remapped, because if you can't middle-click normally that would really be a deal breaker for me.

Yes I can. The wheel acts normally, but if you press down on it, it goes into hyperactive crazy fast ludicrous speed mode. Then press it again to make it go back to normal.

I can understand that. I bought the mouse on my lunch break today and I have been using it without any of the Logitech software installed. When I head home tonight I'll give the software a try and see if I can remap it like that and use it as a middle button.

Plus I'll try some different things with the side scroll wheel and see what I can use it for in some games.

Hehe, cue the return of the great Intellimouse 3. MS finally coming to terms that NEWER is not necessarily better.

And it's in sexy black too.

I think it looks extremely comfortable, but I have no need for super-scroll. Mx518 still stay more than likely.

With computer related peripherals and technology in general, it usually is.
