New hotfix driver for AMD / ATI cards.

Hmmm...wonder how it is different from the beta 5 hemlock driver for the 5970 release? Also, DiRT2 isn't even out until Dec 1st I thought?

106MB?? That's awful big for a hotfix. Sounds like an entirely new driver?

This is the kind of support I like to see. Driver for a new game ahead of its release :D

Avg 37 - 38fps (depending on runs) crysis 1920 x 1080 very high with these drivers so seem pretty good.

AMD has been pushing this game hard to sell DX11 cards. If Crossfire didn't work on it they would look pretty bad. I don't expect many game fixes like this from AMD.

well this proves they can release new drivers before a game is released. i think its time amd dropped the 1 month driver update thing.

They can't release them faster. Microsoft takes few weeks to approve WHQL certification. So no chance for new drivers with every new game.

could be wrong as i havent installed these yet but pretty sure these arent whql certified.

Like WHQL actually matters anyway :p Now that I think about it, the only drivers in the past that have given me a BSOD (back when I had Nvidia cards), were WHQL certified.

WTF there's no overclocking option in this hotfix driver!
*groans* *facepalm*

yeap no 5970 overdrive in these drives, other cards should have it though but like i said no AF. file these under the shitty release section

yeah its pretty bad and im willing to bet that if theres no overdrive for the 5970 theres probably no powerplay either.

driver based. you can force it off with msi afterburner by changing a setting in its cfg file or by using amd gpu clock tool.

Thank you. I used to BIOS edit a card, and I noticed the BIOS had a table of several '2D/3D mode' clocks, and I assumed from there, that this meant the card controlled the PowerPlay feature.

Yeah no problem :)

MSI Afterburner and AMD GPU Clock Tool disable it when you clock the card above 900MHz. To edit the actual clock values of powerplay do the following:

Go into CCC and enable overdrive then create a new profile. Make sure that under "this profile includes" you only choose overdrive. Hit "save" and then "activate and close". Then go to "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles" (for vista & windows 7). Right click the profile you just created and choose "edit". From the file that opens your looking for the following section:

Code:
        <Feature name="CoreClockTarget_0">
          <Property name="Want_0" value="[B][SIZE="4"]15700[/SIZE][/B]" />
          <Property name="Want_1" value="60000" />
          <Property name="Want_2" value="85000" />
        </Feature>
        <Feature name="MemoryClockTarget_0">
          <Property name="Want_0" value="[B][SIZE="4"]30000[/SIZE][/B]" />
          <Property name="Want_1" value="90000" />
          <Property name="Want_2" value="120000" />
        </Feature>
        <Feature name="CoreVoltageTarget_0">
          <Property name="Want_0" value="[B][SIZE="4"]950[/SIZE][/B]" />
          <Property name="Want_1" value="1063" />
          <Property name="Want_2" value="1163" />

The parts that I highlighted in bold are the low power 2D clocks/voltage. Simply increase those to a higher number or if you want to disable powerplay completely simply set all 3 settings under the 3 different categories (CoreClockTarget, MemoryClockTarget, and CoreVoltageTarget) to the third setting in each category ( "Want_2" )

Note: Changing all the settings to 850 Core 1200 Memory on a 5870 to eliminate powerplay increased my idle temp to 51C over 32C with power play enabled. The plus side to this method is you dont have to void your warranty by flashing the card.

Is this hotfix just for crossfire?
Will it have any effect on my single 5850?

So...when's the Steam loading of DiRT 2 begin anyway? I got it for free from Steam via the coupon that came with my 5870. Is the game really going to be available tomorrow? My coupon had the game dated as 11/2/09...and that came and went with no updates.
