NVIDIA's new drivers made specifically for the 6800 series (no longer lingering on the bottlenecks of the FX series) give it a considerable boost in performance over ATI. Unfortunately they don't have the X800XT PE in that review, but keep in mind that the X800 Pro was once on par with the 6800 Ultra, and is now getting completely trounced by the 6800GT. This is pretty big news.

Sorry if this has been posted before.

long story short, they're cheating again.
(because they got owned...again)

to the two poster above me, you guys surely dont have a positive attitude do you

Brent said that new drivers look promising

Optimizing isn't cheating. ATI has been doing it all along right with nVidia. Didn't ATI just get caught doing this same thing with their new X800's? Ither way, even without optimizations in the drivers there is no way in heck the X800XT owns the 6800 ultra. Their both top performers and while the ATI card is nothing but a speed bost, the 6800's sport new tech that will be used in upcoming games. If anything nVidia is owning ATI right now.

Fanboys in their prime.... So if ATI were to get some improvements in their FPS, what would it be then?

Obviously I am not against ATI since I have a new one in my system.... but I get tired of seeing the Nvidia bashing too..

It would be optimizing the code. If it increases FPS in certain games without noticeably affecting image quality there is nothing wrong with it. Fanboys that cry CHEATING in drivers should just go hide some place and STFU. Same crap goes on when people try to point out optimizations in synthetic benchmarks for Intel and AMD processors. They always cry cheat when Intel wins  .

Of course, ATI is rumored to be ready for this contingency, should it occur. The pipelines within the X800 graphics core can be disabled without affecting the rest of the chip. Because of this, it’s believed ATI may answer the GeForce 6800 with an 8-pipeline X800 SE board of their own. For right now though, the GeForce 6800 is the king of the lower half of the high-end segment.

/me smells a mod from SE to PRO status like the 9800s :D

and, i hate to say it but i have to give props to the driver team, nice job guys

but im still going for the x800pro, because i can order it tomorrow...

I'm pretty sure i'm going for one of the 6800 GT's as soon as they hit the streets in a blue or black PCB.

now, that you are saying blue, does anyone have a clue (which i think nobody has but is worth a try) if asus will make their 6800 gt with blue pcb like the ultra?

I signed up for that Evga contest (some contest...) to be picked to buy the 6800 Ultra Extreme Edition.. I haven't been picked but I find it funny that you have to enter a contest in order to be able to buy something. lmao

So you're saying that because NVIDIA won, they cheated? If so, that has to be the dumbest and most ignorant thing I've ever heard.

IQ is very good on NVIDIA, even surpassing ATI in a few cases. Performance is also now above that of ATI. If they're cheating, it doesn't come out with lesser IQ or glitches in rendering, and that's all I care about.

I have yet to see how ATi's new OpenGL drivers turn out. The way it is now, x800pro averages at a whopping 15FPS in Doom]|[ on "high" settings.

This review was flawed almost stupidly. THe X800XT was not included. And 499 Nvidia card ended up comparing to a 399 ati card.

The 6800GT isn't a $500 graphics card, it's priced the same level as the X800 Pro, with better performance.

I dont like the Asus cards very much myself. I prefer Gigabyte, XFX, eVGA, MSI, and a few others primarily.

Your a little off on your pricing there bud. The GT is going to be around $399 the same as the X800PRO. The 6800 np is going to be around $299 but i would expect it to be as low as $250 or less in a month or two. Unless ATi releases a new X800 SE or something else soon nVidia has them beat in the budget spectrum.

And what does the X800XT have to do with the review being flawed? They were reviewing the 6800 np which isn't going to outperform a 6800 ultra or X800XT ither one in the least so ither one of those cards could be left out of the review. The performance against the 6800 GT and X800PRO is all that mattered.

The point of showing the 6800GT and 6800 Ultra is to show how the performance scales as the price goes down $100 each. They were kind enough to throw in a X800 Pro in case you were wondering how its performance compares to NVIDIA's mainstream offerings.

I noticed that the GT beat or came very close to the x800 pro in a lot of games, why are people downplaying it?

Maybe too many people aren't but if this card were to become available in the next 2 weeks that would be great. *crosses fingers*

Wow...looking at those numbers I'm guessing the X800XT's performance advantage over the 6800Ultra has diminished quite a bit...

Friend of mine is a die hard Fireingsquad guy, He allways emailes reviews about NVIDIA cards to me, they are never on par with everyone eles reviews..... To make it worst they dont do anythign diffrent, just show FPS (frames)

ever GPU card review i read from him, just leaving me confused as to how they go the results? NVIDIA allways dose better.... (let me find the one where the 5800ultras kills the 9800pro....)

He buys his cards based on that sie, and he allways buys NVIDIA...but i think in his head he knows, my BF vietnam looks and runs better...

There's definitely something odd going on with thier comparisons...it shows the 6800U scores actually going down in some places...very confusing...

I wanna see some benchmarks with some more mainstream cpus...like a 3000+...and all of them done on all the cards at one time with all the latest driver revisions...

It's impossible to accurately compare this stuff anymore...

read the damn thing before you mouth off

in far cry x800 still whomping everything nvidia has to offer once you turn on AA/AF

Sorry to stop you in your tracks...Far cry isn't the only reason to buy a vid card. I don't play the game cause i think it sucks. Thats just my opinion though. I personnaly like the numbers the 6800 is pumping out and that is why i am gettin my ultra this week.

1 game? Big Shit. Besides the Ultra still maintained the lead at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF.

Maybe the nvidiots should make mention of how the 6800Us are going to stomp the X800s in Doom3.

Besides, wait for the 1.2 patch before mouthing off.

Well let's summarize. Here's the standings on the benchmarked games at the highest settings:

Call of Duty
GT beats Pro by 23%

IL-2 Sturmovik
GT beats Pro by 11.7%

Lock On: Modern Air Combat
GT beats Pro by 5.5%

Splinter Cell
Pro beats GT by 1.2% (1 fps)

Tomb Raider
GT beats Pro by 1.5%

UT
Pro beats GT by 1% (.6 fps)

Farcry
GT beats Pro by 2% (2048x1536, Pro won at 1600x1200)

Can anyone look at these numbers and honestly say that the X800 didn't just get its ass beat?

god damn lemme base my video card purchase on ONE game....lemme think NO..

oh yeah just in case you wont scroll down ill quote emptys break down in percents for those like your self who cant seem to open your eyes or pull the "red wool" blind fold off your face..
Looks like a new archetecture card with STILL beta drivers is doing very damn well.

Looking at their benchmarks, the performance of the 6800 looks dubious, it was running closer to the 5950 than anything else... I don't know it's clock speeds but considering its a 12 pipeline card, you would expect much better performance than it was giving...

Also, I really don't care who makes the faster cards, as I'll buy the fastest one, regardless of company, you don't want to get attached to companies like that...

It's 12 pipes but it's only clocked at like 325Mhz...and it looked to me like it hit right in the middle of th 5950 and the GT...which makes sense to me...

Memory bandwidth on the 6800 is also running at 700mhz compared to 950mhz default on the 5950.

theres got to be a logical explanation for all of this. :)

They look to still be behind in Far Cry though if you compare to the X800XT PE. But as we all really knew from the start the 6800 ULTRA IS better than the X800 PRO...
