ATI has released version 5.4 of their Catalyst Driver Suite.

Catalyst Package | Display Driver | Control Panel | Catalyst Control Center | WDM Driver | Release Notes | Softmod Drivers

The CATALYST™ Software Suite 5.4 introduces enhanced HDTV support. The HDTV user interface has been significantly modified, making it much easier to select and configure the correct resolution for your HDTV when using the Component Video or DVI connection. The Displays Manager wizard has also been updated to assist users in setting up and configuring Component Video HDTV for the optimal viewing experience.

The most important fixes are:
  • 3DMark2001: A black screen is no longer displayed when launching 3DMark2001 after launching Aquamark3 when the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER is installed
  • Splinter Cell Chaos Theory: Depth buffer corruption noticed on the ATI RADEON™ X800 PRO is now resolved
  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic: Loading the Dantooine level of the game under Windows XP no longer results in slow game performance
  • Attempting to apply a higher refresh rate to a non-DDC monitor no longer results in the refresh rate reverting to 60hz.

Thanks for the heads up :)

Half-Life 2: Having the display set to 1024x768 32bpp and setting the video options in the game set to 1600x1200 and all other options set to their maximum values results in sluggish performance and missing textures.

think we`ll see better perf. in COD with this set of drivers ?

Looks like your resolution is at 640x480 and you must be running at 4 bit color. Weird. I'm downloading now but afraid to install.

With the experiences I got with 5.3 with my vivo card, you can be sure I won't even download them.

Reverted back to 5.3 and everything is fine again. If its worth anything I have a X800XT (AIW) AGP, and I did boot into safe mode and use Driver Cleaner and Cab Cleaner after I uninstalled the drivers. I tried to reinstall the 5.4's many times and even redownloaded both versions of them and it still didn't work. Shame, first time in almost 2 years (since the glory 9800 pro days) the ATi drivers have failed me. Guess I'll wait for 5.5.

5.3s work flawlessly with my card.

Sapphire X800 XT VIVO

Maybe it was just a bad install? I would have tried to install it again, and or cleaned out old drivers and installed it in safe mode.

If you read my post above (you probably just missed it), I did that serveral times and wasted an hour and 40 minutes doing so. I even went as far as redownloading them. It's ok though, there was nothing I really needed from 5.4's anyways, as long as I can still play source at 1600x1200 with 2AA/8AF with good fps, I'm ok.

Cat 4.12 has been the best drivers for me as far as Direct3D goes, which is why I still use it. I do find that the OpenGL driver from Cat 5.3 is better though. Simple enough to just replace the OpenGL driver in 4.12 with the from 5.3 for the best of both worlds :)

I put them on but CoD UO does not like Trilinear Filtering anymore. The VPU recover constantly fails and I don't know why. I had to switch to Bilinear to stop the VPU recover from going crazy. I think I will go back to 5.1's or 5.2's, this really shouldn't be a problem and it was a problem for the 5.3's at well. It may be my card but I don't think so. I hope ATI fixes this. Does anyone have any similar problems?

all I can say is the solidworks fix makes me very happy.

time to see what else these new cats can do

Nooo, the font sizes above 100 percent still aren't fixed (They were broken with 5.3 too) Its under the heading DPI of 120 or higher. 96 DPI is normal, I always set it to 200 percent or 192 dpi.

Comeon ATi, I want my 200 percent size screen fonts so I don't die squinting on a 1792x1344 res 21 inch monitor. I also surf using the USEHR=1 value to double the size of all images *cough*.

I can't use these drivers if they don't have double screen size ability.

Don't know if I am the only one thats had the trouble but I have tried installing em twice just now (separate downloads)... and they both freeze up and reboot my computer during install. Downloaded the 5.3's again and they installed and work no problem.

If you ask me, Ati really hasn't released a quality driver since the 4.9's. 4.12's were OK....but I seem to recall some game specific issue that sucked.

Oh well, hope they get the 5.5's right. :p

Damn it! I had that issue with the 5.3s and I had to revert back to the 5.2 drivers. Did anyone else who had issues with the 5.3s, like we did, try out the 5.4s? I'm not about to hose my box in the middle of the semester.

I've always noticed something when new drivers cameout.. There will always be some that say the new ones slowed things down and they reverted to an older driver set and say they worked best etc.. But when the older set was released people said the same thing for them :p It kills me really..

This is the first time I've loaded CCC and 5.4, I've always used CP but in my other thread Net framework 1.1 was installed because of my new digital camera, so I decided to try the CCC, and guess what so far everything works with all the same settings I had in CP, touch wood. I'll try some other games before I go to gloryland because CCC works. I've read to many threads of people having problems so I never installed CCC.
BFV works.

If you're talking about my post, I'm not talking about performance issues. I'm talking about an issue with the 5.3 drivers that was preventing the use of 196 DPI fonts with my resolution at 1600x1200. There was no way around it, so I had to go back to the 5.2 set. Now some people are saying the same thing is happening with the 5.4s.

Generally, as soon as a new driver came out, I installed it, even if I wasn't experiencing problems. I know ATI says you don't need to update drivers unless you're experiening performance problems, but I like to be up to date for whatever anal reason.

I think what you're talking about is people who say things like "I was getting 3 more FPS in Doom3 before the new drivers, so I'm going back to the old ones." That, I agree, is kinda ridiculous. ;)

Same here. Still running 4.12's. I only play Dawn of War and Trainz2004 and everything works just fine @ 1600x1200.

Unless you guys can give me a really good reason to update?

installed without doing anything special and my 2D might as well be on a 386 CPU...will clean um off, and try again in safe mode. That dont work...back to whatever I had before.

edit: booted to safe mode. Used the ATI removal thing to remove the 5.4s. Rebooted twice and installed the 5.2s I had before. Back to normal. Maybe next release will work right.

I'm getting 4-bit colors and BSODs with the 5.4s. Going back to the 5.3s.

Yay someone else, so I guess it is not just me (take a look at my screenshot on the first page).

just installed catalyst 5.4 (from 5.3). Added another 10 to my 3dmark05 scores on an x800 xt Platinum Edition

5.4s are working fine for me, didnt really see much of a performance difference, couple of points or a couple hundred in some benchmarks but nothing I can directly contribute to the drivers.

Solidworks performance increased huge. Couple hundred part assembly open, with shading and shes running smooth.

I also no longer get texture flashing in some of the games i did with the 5.3's

I think ATI should lose this whole releasing a driver every month thing and just goto a modular service pack system. If the majority of driver updates are just fixes for certain issues. im sure they could do this without having to download 25mb drivers everytime.(funny thing is i grab them using a canadian t1 line and it takes less than 2min but i still bitch.

Well bad news I tried to set up my HDTV which worked, but as soon as I dissconected the tv, my CCC crashed had to reboot, then when I went in to play Bfv my resolution was totally corrupted, like I said in my previous thread one to many problems is enough for me and CCC. In some respects it worked out for the better,I installed 5.4 CP and drivers and playing BFV allowed me to set my AA and AF to its max with out stuttering online, so thats Good, I think for me CCC is still a work that needs Ironing out and I don't think I want to be a Beta tester, I'll let the testers do that for me. I for one would rather have stability. I must confess tho that no matter what ver. of Ati drivers I've used other then CCC, have given me no problems. So from me to ATI, they get the Thumbs up.

Installed 5.4, no issues so far. Gameplay looks fine in Doom 3 & UT2004. 2D looks great also.

Well, so i decided to go from:
CAT 4.11 - -- ---> CAT 5.4
MMC 9.03 - -- ---> MMC 9.06.1

- AIW 9800 PRO
- WIN2000

Install went smooth, but ATI TV, there is some serious lag...takes ~3 seconds to change channel

Remote Wonder got corrupted...:(

Reverted, and all is fine...not sure if it is the CAT or MMC...i'm tierd...i'll wait for the next release...

I'm using 120dpi and where 5.3 failed me, 5.4 actually WORKS. I installed right over the rolled-back 5.2 i was using — no issues. One change though... I recently moved from 1152x854 to 1280x960 (same ol' Multisync P750). That might have gotten it to work correctly. Just taking baby steps until the price of the Dell 2405FPW goes down.

My 3DMark05 score went DOWN after moving to 5.4 from 5.2 with an X800XL. With 5.2, I scored 4936. With 5.4, scores were 4832 and 4824 in two tests. Is there any reason why I should take the performance hit and just stick with 5.4 instead going back to 5.2? Additional features or bug fixes? OpenGL 2.0 support?
