New C300 Firmware.

We’ve been monitoring the Crucial customer forums and are aware of the 0006 firmware issue being experienced by a small percentage of C300 owners. The Crucial Performance Lab is in the final stages of testing for a new firmware revision that addresses and corrects the version 0006 issue. Additionally, we’ve made an improvement to the firmware upgrade process so it will be able to be performed in AHCI mode for many chipsets. We expect this firmware update to be available in late April 2011 and will make the download available to customers at the earliest possible date. Thank you for your feedback and patience.

Looks like bug fixes mostly

Do these updates wipe the data on the drive? My C300 is arriving this Thursday and I'm wanting to do a clean install as soon as I get it. Would hate to do it all again when the new firmware arrives. Yeah I know I can do a backup/restore but maybe I'm just being super careful because its my first SSD.

I have no problem with that. I hope this fixes the freezing issues Ive read about so we don't have to keep changing registry entries.

They should not wipe the drive of data, but its always a good idea to back up as sometimes bad things happen. Eg brick the drive.

Well my Intel's said it shouldn't wipe the data when I did hte 8820 firmware but it jacked up one of my drives. I am sure some C300 owners will chime in with a good answer.

I was going to update my C300 a few days ago and saw this post on the Crucial forums so I'm holding off until then. I read the instructions and the current firmware update is supposed to be non-destructive to the data.

In day to day use my C300 is fine but when I fire up some games it will freeze for about 10 seconds a couple of times per hour.

I think this may be to address the issues installing OSX on this drive in the new Macbook Pro's, as well as the performance issues if you do manage to get it installed.

Is the C300 the drive to buy then? In terms of price/performance?

Using the Coupon code on newegg I picked up a pair of 128gb C300's for $199 each. Thats really hard to beat in terms of price/performance. The C400 wasn't so much better that I would hold out for that so I am happy with my choice. The C300 may not be the top performer but it's still a good drive.

Anyone know what changes are being made?

Looks like the stuttering issue and an AHCI mode that will work with Nvidia/AMD chipsets?

Yeah, sounds like its mostly a compatability update. One can always hope for more performance along with it. I am going to sit on these drives until this firmware update releases. I hope it's soon. My intel's write is dropping way below 100mb/s. First time I have had an issue with them in the 2+ years I have had them.

The G1s are the first of a great SSD and I'll bet your RAID0 would give many of today's drives a run for their money. :)

If there's an SSD "Hall Of Fame" the G1s would be the "Grand Daddy". :)

Ageed...i still get reads around 518. They have been great drives and only have about 2tb written to each.

I just ordered a C300 today. Probably won't be able to build my sandy bridge pc until late this weekend (if the ssd arrives by then) or early next week.

SO, should I just install W7 on the drive and wait for the firmware or would it be best to use my old Raptor 150GB until the firmware releases?

They are saying it won't impact your data but personally I am going to wait.

Just do a clean install on the drive.

These stuttering problems are extremely small portion of users and for all I know could be eliminated by adjusting the power parameters of the computer.

Many including me, have had no problems.

Old Hippie, what firmware did yours come with and what are you running now? Mine came with 0002 and I'm still running that. I'm also on a WinXP 32-bit, SATA2 setup with the C300. I didn't think I was having any problems until more recently, but it's becoming more noticeable.

AFAIK data loss was only an issue with the 6Gb/s ports which may/may not be connected to the stuttering problem.

ATM most users are using a SATA3Gb/s port and I have not read anything to connect the 3Gb/s stuttering and the 6Gb/s data loss problems.

I hate to admit it but I don't remember what firmware it came with but I do know I'm running 0006 now. :)

I just got another 256Gb and it's already flashed to 0006.

I'm not sure what problems are becoming more noticeable to you but the stuttering problem seems to be there from the get-go.

Whats the best program to determine what version your sdd has on it? Also do firmware upgrades reformat the sdd?

AS-SSD shows your firmware version.

I've updated some ssds in the past without issue however I've also seen plenty of people get screwed over from them so always best to keep a back-up of important data.

OH snap.. thank god.. I starated getting bad freezes with the new intel 10.5 RST. I hope this fixes them!

Yup, very aware of the changes. They have been telling us this fix was coming. So glad its here. For the most part the feedback I am seeing is the issue is resolved. Can't wait to put this in place when I get home!

Anyone done this yet?
I updated mine, even though I did not suffer the stuttering problem. I'm just a sucker for updating firmware.

So far so good. No issues. Flash went smooth, although the 'final stage' (or whatever the precise wording Crucial uses on the process indicator) took considerably longer (couple minutes) than the first couple stages.

thanks have. I plan on doing mine this weekend. I also do not exhibit any of the issues but, like you, I like to stay on top of the updates.

Did you do the CD or USB method?

I wish I new how to do it USB they only put CD on their site I looked at the ISO and was lost looks like a form of unix.

ya know... I loved my crucial M225 drive, but it died in less than a year from when I bought it (read/write speeds, on a freshly 'zerod' drive were slower than my mechanical IDE backup drive). I've been reading good things about the C300's (and now the M4's) but the M225's failure rate has me scared to try another one from Crucial.

Have any of you guys had any issues with the C300's?

I am not sure if i should even bother updating mine. Both my 128GB drives came with 0006 FW installed and have been rock solid. I have not experienced any stuttering and these drives are attached to the 6G ports on my Asus P8P67 Pro Mobo.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it works for me......

Yeah, my only issue is I didn't get it for $199 on Amazon.......

How to update using USB:

1) Get Xboot (requires .NET 4):
http://sites.google.com/site/shamurxboot/

2)Run the program as administrator

3) Drag and drop the iso unpacked from the zip into the main window of Xboot

4) Select the top option in the drop down box "Add using Grub4dos ISO emulation" and click "add this file"

5) Click "Create USB", select the usb drive and click ok.

Boot from the USB, select the iso when prompted and enjoy your USB iso boot.
