I'm pretty sure that when he was saying he was better than windows 2, that he was acting AS 3.1, felt like they just condensed the shots nearer the end to save time.

The way he smugly pronounced "two" makes me think they went with that version solely for the funny sound it makes when said as "3.1" (actually 3.11 was the big version, if you want to get technical) just doesn't have the same effect.

My thought process is this: I acknowledge ads are generally a bunch o' BS. I don't pay attention to them when they try to tell me how awesome they are, I don't pay attention to them when they try to tell me how crappy the competition is. I don't pay attention to ads for Windows, why should I care so much about ads from Apple?

My father bought some of their products and highly enjoyed them. A few of my friends had them and enjoyed them. Word of mouth! So then I bought one of their MacBooks, and I highly enjoy it. That's all the advertising I need.

As to the comments about how Apple should change their business model so they can REALLY be successful... They are sitting on $34 billion in cash reserves. Their "crumbs" are doing them just fine, it seems.

Not to say I hate on PCs or Windows. I defended Vista when it came out, and I'm getting Win 7 ASAP.

I'm just saying that I, and more importantly, we of [H]ardOCP, are NOT the target of these ads. Why care?

I don't think anyone is calling you an Apple elitist. You seem to respect the inherent benefits of each platform. But most mac-tards aren't like you. They have this notion that MacOS is better at everything, and they are just smart people for using it. Pretty arrogant and yet so naive at the same time.
 
Generally speaking as a primary PC user and secondary mac user, I have always found the Mac ads entertaining. Of course mostly filled with fud, but then find me mainstream advertising that isn't. I have to agree though, this ad really came across as a little desperate or pathetic. Now I believe we can all acknowledge that apple is doing the best they have done in many many years, so clearly they aren't desperate it merely just comes across in the ad that way.

The only people I see using Macs are celebrity types. Yep they are real rocket scientist alright.

yawn all the previous OS's have been fine, Vista was fine was much better once SP1 came out but it never gave me issues

I smell frustration and apple farts. Seriously This si nuts but the thing is in another commercial they will advertise boot-camp again with windows 7 on the mac. I am really tired of the apple ads where they jsut spew a lot of stuff that is not true. I loved the windows ads about cheaper pc's that were better. They should make a Pc ad stating their laptops don't explode. I'm not a fan-boy I just don't like lies or hypocrisy. Such as the reviews that act like Mac has most of the market when its only 5% and will probably fall now that windows 7 is out. People were frustrated with vista. I thought vista took forever to load and was not a fan of the long boots but i did like the search features. I love my XP. And I cna;t wait to play around with windows 7

Either way, these ads are far and away the worst thing out of Apple. They could just as easily make an ad that focuses on compelling reasons to buy a Mac based exclusively on the features of their hardware and software, etc, but that would be boring and not stir up controversy and buzz. That's really what these ads are for, to stir the pot and get people talking.

Its shitty but it works, I think this forum thread is proof of that.

The high end Windows PC are finer and more expensive than the apple PCs.

Try this:
Windows is a raw meat, It depends on how you cook it, can be either an expensive meal or junk food.

Macintosh on the other hand, is can food, not much you can customize after you get it, you either suck it or throw it away.

3.1 or 3.0 would've made much more sense, but are thing that make sense really what their audience would respond to?
 
I think they would not feel so desperate if they were not hammering the market quite so much.

I wanted an hour worth of TV last night and saw 3 MAC spots,
and 1 Micro$oft.

It's like the ex-lover who keeps calling eventually they get to sounding really desperate and we quit picking up the phone. (or watching the commercial.

Instead of blowing their entire wad of advertising money all at once, why not ramp up over the last few weeks, and build up over the next couple of weeks talking about the problems upgrading and how easy it is to loose your data when upgrading your MAC.
 
I think Microsoft should do a 60 second commercial. It would be a large pie chart with market share. According to wikipedia, Microsoft has about 92% of the market. Apple has about 4.5%. Just put the graph up of Microsoft having 92, apple at about 5%, and linux/other the 3% and leave it for a full 60 seconds.

apples been grasping at straws since the beginning of this retarded campaign.. these commercials are actually what finally pushed me over the edge to never use a mac again.. its pretty pathetic when a company has to try and create commercials to make their competitor look bad to make sales.. while microsoft has not made a single commercial since this campaign started to make apple look bad except for that laptop/bestbuy commercial which is 100% true anyways..

id like to see some statistics that show if these commercials are even helping apple.. because i honestly think they aren't.. ive never talked to anyway thats decided to buy a mac just because of those stupid commercials..

also, i thought it was pretty hilarious, in a sad way, that they bashed xp. i dont like microsoft in general, i really dont...but xp didnt have many problems at all when it came out, it was stable as hell, and it was adopted very quickly...soooo wtf are they even referencing? oh right, they're just fabricating things.

Sorry, but XP at launch was far worse then Vista ever was. Pre-SP2 XP was one of the most vulnerable systems ever released.

Sadly, these ads do have an affect. I work with a lot of non-IT people and almost every single one of them believes this crap. They all bitch and complain about how aweful Vista is and how they switched to Macs (even though most have never even used it). The only thing they know about Vista came from these ads.
 
lol I work at a PC store and I see PC's blue screen every day all day. Of course that's usually why they are here, we fix them... I personally haven't had a big problem on any of my machines until a few weeks ago my gaming machine blue screened due to Nvidia's graphics driver. Otherwise been very clean.

Yes I also have a mac and I do kind of hate macs adds and personally I think Apple the company is a douche of a company, hands down. I do however really like Linux. The server pc we use to transfer data to is Ubuntu because sometimes windows can't detect a drive and it will freeze windows up, but plug it into a linux machine, say my mac or Ubuntu and works just fine.

Also when copying over large amounts of data sometimes the name/filepath is too long and windows will just then abort the copy instead of skipping it, very stupid and annoying. This doesn't happen in Linux. Also installing printers on Ubuntu or my mac is beyond simple as in for the most part I never have to go download the driver it does it all for me.

Windows is lacking in some areas that I think are important. The UI of windows 7 is great and I like it better than my mac. Apple as a company is a douche, but I like their products and so far I like their customer support.

I have 3 PC's total, 2 windows, and my macbook pro. They all have their pro's and cons.

For personal use I like how Linux deals with a lot of things, but of course when I want to play games I use a windows machine. Really matters what you do and how much money you have to spend.
 
Apple needs to go back to the drawing board again with these mac ads. They're getting lamer by the day and yes they're running out of negative things to say about windows 7 so hence, why not just attack previous iterations. It's all just scare tactics. Meh, at the end of the day, the numbers speak for themselves.

Go ahead and google xp antivirus, or antivirus 2008 or 2009 I remove them every day for 100 a pop. I love windows because people are always dumb enough to install shit. At least what Linux has going for it is by default it doesn't know how to open a .exe :)

I use both windows and Mac OS X, but you're excuses are just as stupid and pointless as apples. Except for the fact that they have more money than you.

Also have you ever owned an apple computer lately? I used to bash apple like everyone else, then I bought one and slowly started to learn that I was wrong. Though they are not perfect, linux does really well at dealing with most things.

We on an average get about 5 computers checked in a day for virus's alone. So yes windows is very vulnerable to getting virus's and yes they are getting smarter at tricking people and yes people LOVE limewire and their porn.

You actually have some valid points. It does take about 20 minuets of education to keep yourself safe with Windows. And just think how well of of those dumbass users would do with Linux.
 
oh I agree with Linux in general say Ubuntu it would be terrible and I can guarantee you most would fail.

That's why OS X is nice because it's built off linux or unix w/e and it's very easy to use. So less failure that way, but is the os perfect? Of course not and ya I still very much like windows 7, but saying that mac is a POS is ignorance.
