I'm currently running the 21.1 previewand am wondering if I need to update before installing my 7970's? :confused:
 
These aren't new, they're the day 1 ones...... Got my hopes up with the title :p.
 
These are the day 1, 1/9 driver, already posted. Also, for point of interest, they are exactly the same as the December 20th launch driver.

I could not get the download drivers to work at all. They installed fine but would black screen my setup on every reboot. After uninstalling them using driver cleaner as always then installing the 11.12.1 on the disk it ran fine. If they are the same I'm at a loss to explain. Say Brent, did you guys use the CAP's at all in your testing?
 
Yes i had to use the disk too, I have another problem when i run 3dmark 06 or 11 its not using all 3 of my 7970s, its only using card and i cant figure out how to get them all to work:mad:
 
I first installed the drivers on the CD for my Asus 7970 and screen would flicker. The card is connected to a single 30" monitor through the dual-link DVI port. Very distracting. Installing the drivers from 1/9/2012 fixed the problem.

Many people have success with the DL drivers on single card setups. I've only been able to get the CD 11.12.1 to work in xfire. I've also tried some of the "reviewer" drivers v8.94 and v8.921.2, neither will function properly with xfire on my system. They all crash on boot to black screen with blinking cursor in upper left corner.

And.. I get the added bonus of it dinking my RAID1 so the Intel software tries to "verify" 1.5TB of data every time one of those drivers crashes my system.

In short, I'm sticking with 11.12.1 until AMD puts another driver and some new CAP's up. They are not bad drivers... although they do not seem to wanna cooperate with the latest afterburner too well. But I had that issue to some extent with my 6950's as well.

Interesting indeed... this is the first I've heard about issues with the DL ones in xf. I guess I'll try those then.
 
Ive got 2 Sapphire 7970's in xf using the downloaded drivers. No issues yet but havent had time to try a wide range of games/apps. sc2, wow, mw3, 3dmark and heaven are about all ive tried so far

I had them running fine with the DLed ones, it was OCing that was giving me issues, the power slider would not let me apply changes.
 
I can't get Crysis 2 to run in crossfire or tri-fire, I get the same fps with 1/2/3 cards enabled
 
Marcdaddy can you post a pic of your 3 7970s installed in your system, I'm unsure how to run the connectors.

I couldn't run crossfire with the DL'ed drivers with my 7970s. One worked fine but not the two cards, got the black screen with blinking cursor. The drivers that came on the disc with the cards worked though.

Seems a lot of people are having that power control slider issue... myself included. The slider for my second GPU either refuses to stay at +20 or I check back after finally setting them both and find the slider for both cards reset. The full load voltage with +20 is 1.164, without it's 1.093. I wish the second party apps would bundle this function in as well so I could avoid having to touch the CCC Overdrive altogether.
 
For those 7970 crossfire with the CCC slider issues and other weird issues, this is how I resolved:

1. Uninstall catalyst and CAP profiles in add/remove programs
2. Restart Computer and start windows in safe mode
3. Device Manager uninstall drivers for both
4. Restart computer in safe mode again
5. Download cc cleaner and run registry cleaner a few times until no issues found. Make sure you make a backup just in case.
6. Restart computer
7. Run cccleaner again
8. Restart
8. Install catalyst (1/9/12 download driver from the web) and CAP profiles

Fixed it for me, probably some extra steps but wanted to fix this issue and not mess around.
 
I had problem with power control slider on my second 7970 card would not keep it settings always fall back to default. The primary 7970 power control slider kept the settings but the second 7970 power control would not. I find out if your restart your computer it worked like it should so give that a try if your power control slider is not keeping it settings.

I found just waiting until there was some activity for the second GPU then adjusting the slider worked. Think it's just a bug with the driver and the zero power state thang.

WTF are some of you people doing with your PCs? There's about 6 steps above that should never be needed.

I never had any issues either until I tried running some beta drivers (not the preview drivers). Maybe that's what's going on here?
 
Indeed, I unistalled my old 6970 xf driver set and installed the dl'd version for the 7970 xf, OC'd to 1125/1500 @ 1.178 and everything is stable and smooth, except for one atikmdag or w/e bsod in mw3 when loading a cutscene. Using newest afterburner beta btw. I've seen even load between the two, usage wise, in the stuff i've tested so far. 75% a piece in sc2 @ 2560x1600 and surprisingly ~2gb on the buffer.
 
Anyone else have the problem with Payday the Heist crashing at startup??
 
I am having no issues with all 3 of mine, however even if I disable crossfire I can't get Crysis 2 to load. I get a black screen with a green cursor and it just sits there. I can hear the menu items behind it, but can't see anything. Probably an ATI Driver issue.
 
Yeah I tried the drivers on the disc and download and had nothing but issues left and right with BF3 crashing, payday not running and star wars crashing. Guess I will stick with my GTX580 for now and send these back. Was hopping to get a dual card solution to handle my PLP setup but I just really do not want to deal with these issues.

Dude it's something on your system, not the cards. That's a pretty weak "solution" honestly.

I am running all 3 of mine flawlessly, in BF3 and SWTOR and Metro 2033 and all Steam games. :eek:

ONLY game that gives me issues is Crysis 2, which I mean really, who cares!? I just wanted to see how the 7970s thrashed it LOL
 
So how come i miraculously installed the GTX580 back in and bam everything works like a charm??

When putting the 7970's in I first uninstalled the nVidia drivers and then ran driver sweeper. Then installed the 7970's and the drivers off the net. Ran into issues and then removed those drivers and tried the ones on the disc and same thing.

I have since put my other card back in and works fine. Was really hopping to get some crossfire and PLP action going but I guess I will wait.

Going between Nvidia and ATI cards always sucks. It sucked when I went from an x800 Pro to an 8800GTS and it sucked when I went from an 8800GTS to a 4870. Nothing ever worked right until I reinstalled Windows.

Would suggestion reinstalling windows if your able. Anyone that has done clean install seems to have fixed those issues. Might as well give it a shot since you have the cards there. Good luck with it.
 
I agree, those steps should not be needed with my upgrading from a 5870. However, updating CCC and installing the CAP profiles did not work. Many other options with less steps did not work. I am sure there are some extra steps not needed but I am not going back to try and reprodcue the issue. Just sharing what completely stopped my issues.

I agree but we don't live in a perfect world. I used the atiman driver remover as well as CCleaner when switching from my 580s to the 7970s. I used the download drivers too, not the disc drivers.
 
Does anyone know if the drivers included on the CD are the 11.12 WHQL drivers? I have an Asus model, if that matters (I don't know if the drivers on their CD are different from the other card makers). I posted earlier about how I had flickering with the CD drivers which I thought was fixed by the 1/9/12 Windows 7 drivers but I just had some flickering again (single card, flickering across the desktop with a browser open). I also had my drivers fail yesterday, which I have never seen before - I got an balloon bubble in the lower right corner of the taskbar saying the drivers experienced a failure from which it had successfully recovered. I was thinking of trying the 11.12 WHQL drivers but only if they're different from the ones on the CD.
