Never buy from ZipZoomFly

I'm sure a lot of you buy from Googlegear now known as ZipZoomFly. They've always had the lowest prices and free shipping on just about everything. I myself have bought a lot of hardware from this vendor through the years. I recently bought about $1700 worth of hardware. It worked fine for the first couple days, but soon I started to notice a few wierd quirks, so I decided to take it back. I applied for an RMA, got it, and sent away the stuff for a refund. That's when things got interesting.

They received everything by 9/21/04, and my RMA status went into "Processing Return" It stayed like that for two weeks, which, according to their return policy was the maximum amount of time before they'd give a credit. I decided to give them a call to make sure they got everything. They did, and I was assured that I'd have my money by that Friday. I didn't, so I called again the following Wednesday, was assured that I'd have my money by that Friday. Now, after four ignored emails about the issue, it's that Friday, and suprise, no money. So, I called, and was assured for the third time, that I would get my money by Friday, more than a month after they got my items. I am getting the distinct feeling that I've been scammed out of nearly two grand.

What should I do? Has this company scammed anyone else here?

leave feedback and different reseller ratings sites, and call the better bussiness bureough. that's alot of money to be sckrewed out of, you should seriously consider taking the time to fill out all the paper work with the BBB. You could also get a lawyer friend to issue a few threats to them and take them to civil court or something if that's possible... or tell them you've consulted a lawyer and plan on sueing.

As for me, i use newegg.

i second newegg along with most of the ppl on this forum, ive only baught like 1 or 2 things from zipzoomcrap and they took forever to process my orders so i dont deal with them anymore. you should try speaking to a manager instead of a normal phone rep. you may get better results with a higher up, id wait on taking leagle action before doing that, if that fails go go lawyer :D

I'm guessing by how they're acting that they haven't even posted the credit to your card yet? If so, you will have to wait again for the money to actually be available on your card. Anyway, hope you get it resolved soon.

I have used ZipZoomFly and have had no problems. I even RMA once and it went ok. I mean in your case you just got unlucky. Probably 1/100.

if 1/100 people had this happen to them, zipzoomfly wouldve been out of buisness before anyone could say zipzoom

I've bought thousands of $$$ through them over the years and I prefer them to newegg actually. Hell, look at their reseller ratings, they are great!!! I doubt you're being scammed, but calling them and threatening the BBB can't hurt....

Zipzoomfly is great. If they have it, but it from them. They ship out fast and beat newegg pricewise. I've never had an issue.

First question is, have you called and asked to talk to a supervisor or higher up yet? If not do so immediately to try and get things sorted out.

If your haveing a problem and they wont resolve it for you, definately give you CC a call and let them play hardball.. That being said, I did an rma with them ~4 weeks ago with no problems. they were very helpfull and auctually took back a piece of hardware they in all fairness couldl have very easially not taken back. (clicked the wrong product, model number was 1 digit off and was a "specaial order item". they took it back as an "exchange" not a return.)

I have used zipzoomfly many times and have been satisfied with each purchase. I have also RMA'd a few items and had no issues. I don't think they are scamming you. A mix-up on their part perhaps, but it's bound to happen somewhere along the lines of the thousands of orders they process each month.

I bought a 36GB Raptor drive from them a few months ago. It took them 3 days just to ship it. Then it arrived DOA. Thank God for Western Digital's advanced RMA.

I'll never buy anything from ZZF again. I know the DOA thing probably wasn't their fault, but taking forever to get my shipment out the door sure was.

Welcome to the boards, do not use buy.com, and always use newegg...

I'm actually going to send more of my business ZZF's way in the future. New Egg's prices are just too high on many things.

i assume you paid via credit card... if so, chargeback.

Actually, it was a debit card, but it acts like a credit card. Not sure if I can charge back but I'll look into it.

I'm hoping that it was just a mix up on their part. I've returned other items with no issues. I'd hate to take this problem to the next level by threatening to sue, but if that what it takes.. I'll give them a call every day this week, and if I dont get my money back by this Friday, its game time. I'm getting real sick of using this POS laptop.

Thanks for the help. After observing the boards for years, too lazy to register, it's good to finally post.

yeah
i bought an open box nf7-m and it wasnt just open box, it was full blown damaged... the onboard nic didnt work... there was no options in the bios for it, and it just didnt work.

i couldnt rma it, as the person i built it for was leaving for college in 6 days, so i just stuck a pci nic in there

I used to buy tons of stuff from ZZF. Never had a problem. Then I ordered 2 36 GIG Raptors. They show up, one is DOA. I call for an RMA and thats when it all went south. They got the drive back and said that they would ship out a new one right away. 6 days later , still no drive, I call up to find out whats going on, and they tell me that now I have to wait for a new drive from WD, cause I broke the original drive!! Im like WTF!!!!! They say this could take up to 4 weeks. I say fuck it, I dont want the drive, and since I was doing a RAID install I dont need the other one either. They say fine, send that one back too, well give you a full refund. By this time I had already ordered and installed 2 raptors I got from Newegg. Well after they now have both drives back, I have to fight with them for another 4 weeks to get my refund, when I do get it, they charged me a restocking fee on BOTH DRIVES... SO>>>>>>>> it cost me $30.00 in restocking fees and about $20.00 in shipping to get both drives back to them. All total, those asshats cost me $50.00 for sending me a broken drive to start with...
NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY FROM THEM!!!
I hope they go bankrupt , cause thats what rotten customer service will get you these days.
Ill gladly pay a little more for something, if I know im gonna be taken care of if I have a problem.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the customer (dis)service rep's name was "Fatima" ..She better hope to hell I never find her dumb ass. Ill kick it all the way back to India..

Sounds familiar :D I'm sure I'll be slapped with a restocking fee even though all the things I sent back didn't work.

Only my monotonous service representative was named Javid. Yes, "Javid."

newegg has its fair share of mixups too, its not like they're perfect. Zipzoomfly's reseller ratings are sky high, Newegg's only got it beat by .61 points, which is pretty padded considering how much more business Newegg does than zipzoomfly. The title of this thread is misleading, and imho should be changed. You got unlucky, it happens.

I personally have had bad experience with Newegg, and I was out $150 for a while, does it mean I won't buy from there again? No, I have also bought thousands from newegg and one bad experience does not a company make, in the words of Yoda.

2000$ is a pretty damn big mistake.

Add another zero to that $150 and you'll know how I feel. I think the title of my thread is fine. I don't want other people to have to deal with this crap. After 4 completely disregarded emails and calling customer service now 5 times, Zipzoomfly has made no attempt to explain what is taking so long on my refund.

The vast majority won't.

Platinum plus, Platinum, and Gold. Oh yeah, no one on earth should ever buy from them.

I can understand why you wouldn't buy from them again since they haven't made any attmept to contact you but judging from experience and others yours is an isolated incident.

I just re-read your first post, and am all of a sudden a little confused.. Do you mean you bought 1700 worth of gear, (IE, components for a new computer) had a problem and instead of finding it sent ALL of the stuff back?

i used to work for in a call center for both MSN internet access and Nextel. When they say they are going to refund your money they will but it just takes a hell of a lot longer then you would normally think. give it some time it will probably get back to you

This is an odd incident indeed. I've easily spent that much with them, as well as Newegg and have never had a single customer complaint with either onliner vendor. I hope you're situation gets resolved because that's a real bummer.

On another note though, if you had a membership with Pre-Paid Legal, you wouldn't be having this problem right now...

Never, and I mean never use a debit card. A credit card company wants to retain your business and as such will go to bat for you when its a valid argument. A debit card usually takes your money out of your checking or other funds account, and you are left to often sort out the probs on your own. I had one bad experience with an online vendor and called them about it. They gave me the run-around much like you have gotten. I called them back the next day and explained that I would be calling my credit card company and would be requesting a charge refund. I received my refund within 48 hours after that I believe. The thing is, if an online vendor has too many problems with a Visa or MC or whatever, then the card company says, guess what, no more business through us. Besides, my Visa gold card adds an additional year to most warranties.
If a monitor or whatever breaks a month after the warranty expires, I just call the toll free Visa number, they already have a record of the purchase and the date, and they handle things from there. I love my credit card. :) /hugs plastic

My experiences have been nothing but good with them. They are almost as good as Newegg.

if your debit card carries the visa logo, then you are afforded the same protection as a visa credit card. After falling victim to identify theft of my debit information, I had about 80% of the stolen funds returned to me... would have been nice to get it all back, but 80% is a lot better than nothing...

with credit card it would have all been refunded.

credit cards are _definatly_ alot safer then using debit cards... if you are a responsible person, then definatly use a credit card. it'll be alot less headache and hassle.

All this newegg talk is not helping this guy any so enough with the newegg spam, but anyway, dont let your phone calls end, ask to speak to higher ups and demand to know whats going on. Threatening is not always the way to go, sometimes its just better to explain to them whats going on, and you really need your money back, or replacement hardware. If you make a good case, and they have records in such, there is no way they should not refund you, especially with the good reputation they have. And also as stated above, its always better to use a credit card, not a debit for large purchases.
goodluck
ps go newegg. :)

VISA Debit cards get the SAME protection as VISA Credit cards. VISA will refund your money after the first $50, you have to follow the rules with reporting it within so many days.

I agree though that credit cards are safer, since if someone cleans out your credit limit, you still have the money in your checking account until things get fixed. But if someone cleans out your checking account, you are pennyless till things get fixed.

I use a PayPal debit card for online purchases instead of my checking debit card. I stick the money into PayPal to cover my purchases and no more. Plus, I have the address for my PayPal account set to my office. That way things I buy get shipped there, so they aren't left in front of my door or undelivered waiting on a signarture.

As far as NewEgg vs ZZF, I never have purchased from ZZF, but NewEgg is great with RMA's. Always willing to help and are fast.
